Black Ops
I recently got the Superpowers Update into my greedy Paws. There is a Villain named Maelstrom mentioned who uses a Energy Maelstrom. Can anybody tell me where I can find something on that guy ? Black Ops
Re: Need to ID a Hero Villain Not sure. I do not have 6th Ed. The one I am refering to is in: UNTIL Superpowers Database 2, 2005 Update, Page 51.
aylwin13
Re: Need to ID a Hero Villain I'm assuming it's the same villain. His write-up is on Pg. 502 of 5ER.

Which I also do not own. ( Never bought the revised Edition.) Thanks.
aylwin13
Re: Need to ID a Hero Villain It should also be in 5E. He's in Chapter 5: Genre By Genre. Check the COMIC BOOK SUPERHEROES: CHAMPIONS section.
Black Ops
Re: Need to ID a Hero Villain My Book is second printing May 2002, there is no such chapter in it. I bought a additional book for the superheroic stuff. He is not in that one.

I've never seen a better candidate for an elemental control and the variable advantage advantage.
Black Ops
Re: Need to ID a Hero Villain What you need to know? Maelstrom should be in a special section on how NOT to make an effective character Just some Info. Who does he work for? What kind of Villain is he ? Scientist ? Conqueror? Goon ? Some Personality would help too.

Goon ? Some Personality would help too. He's a freelancer. Pulls jobs for anyone so long as the money is right. He's got minimal skills (just Stealth and Streetwise), so he's mainly going to be used as "muscle", a distraction or essentially a random encounter... He's a former ARGENT scientist, but he's not particularly bright. Nor does he have any science skills whatsoever, presumably because of ARGENT brainwashing him after the experiment that gave him his powers. They are currently hunting him. He's greedy and surprisingly overconfident, despite his numerous defeats. He's not very tactically minded, but he does try to keep his distance and blast, since that's his main strength. Bloodstone
Re: Need to ID a Hero Villain Not all characters should be effective or efficient. True, which is why he should be in a special section of the book. Probably labeled "Don't do this" Seriously, I make a lot of characters that end up being inefficient as they grow. Or sometimes I do something goofy and inefficient because it perfectly fits the concept. Maelstrom just seems all kinds of wrong from the get go though. There are obvious point savings to be had that seem like they would be perfectly in concept. He's an even worse mess in 6E, since he's a straight conversion... Greywind
Re: Need to ID a Hero Villain Sounds a lot like Pulsar...... Pulsar was OCD with a fixation on Morgan Fairchild. That was all that character needed.
