iamjim
I know I've read this critter somewhere, and I'm fairly sure it was in an official Champions book, but I've flipped through all of the ones I thought it was in and haven't found it yet. The problem is two fold... I can't remember which book, and i can't remember the thing's name. Basically it's an insect life form that crawls inside its victims and controls their minds without anyone on the outside really being able to tell what's going on. If it helps, I'm fairly sure the artwork looked something like a big tick. Anybody recognize it? - jim
fbdaury
Re: Please jog my memory Maybe the Anopheles creatures from Champions 3D book?
iamjim
Re: Please jog my memory I don't think so. I pretty much skipped from 2nd edition to 4th. I didn't play much when 3rd was in print. If it's the same Anopheles as described in this webpage, I'm sure that's not it. http://www.allenvarney.com/anopheles.html - j
Doctor Agenda
Re: Please jog my memory It rings a bell, something in 5th Ed, was it one of the Sci Fi creatures in the Bestiary?
iamjim
Re: Please jog my memory I'm less sure there. I don't own a copy of the 5e Bestiary, but I had a friend who shared missing books back and forth with me before he moved out of town, so that may be where I saw it. If somebody can verify that, I guess I can go shopping... my wife might kill me though. - j
Lord Liaden
Re: Please jog my memory Do you own Arcane Adversaries? What you describe sounds very much like the Mind Thief, one of the Edomite monsters, on p. 53 of that book.

The Arc
Re: Please jog my memory Sounds like the Neuroparasite from the Bestiary. There's a drawing of it by Tristan Miller on page 205.
Lord Liaden
Re: Please jog my memory The Neuroparasite has the look and the mind-control bit, but remains attached outside the victim's body, like Robert Heinlein's Puppeteers. The Mind Thief actually enters a victim's brain, which it ultimately eats.

Lord Liaden
Re: Please jog my memory Glad I could help. BTW whether you buy the 5E or 6E version, I heartily recommend picking up the HERO System Bestiary. It covers a huge range of real-world, extinct, and fictional beasties for any genre or power level. My 5E book has proven to be one of the most broadly-useful volumes in my HERO collection.
