t-bear
I'm building an aid focus item (think cerebro) for my team's mentalist in our base. It's basically an aid station that would be "aid" for her Mind Scan so she can scan the city for trouble (or whatever). The Mindscan is currently bought up to 50 active points and residing in a multipower of 50 points. So, in order to add the aid points to the Mindscan, am I also going to need to buy an Aid for the multipower? Can I even do that? Ideas? Thanks.. Pattern Ghost
Hmm... You might buy a naked Megascale advantage through a focus. I'm not sure how that'd work out mechanically (don't have the book in front of me, but wondering how megascale interacts with mindscan, thinking MS has built in range), but it might be an option. Sociotard
Dangit! I know I saw a reference to how to aid things in multipowers in fred! why oh why don't I have that book with me. Sigh. Well, if you only want to boost the mindscan and nothing else, I'd just buy the aid for mindscan. until I can take a good look at fred. *thinks* well this made for a pretty pointless post. t-bear
Megascale is built into mindscan at the +1 1/4 level (size of a planet) and since that's all the mindscan we're going to want anyway (way more than, in fact) it works out okay. Let me know if you figure that out/remember/find it Socio =)
Pattern Ghost
Yeah, I was thinking Mindscan had an enormous area built in. Hmm. As for Aiding a power in a MP slot, I don't see why not, other than point cost. The default for Aid is that it affects one power, so it should only affect the slot it's bought for. I couldn't find anything in Fred specifically about the situation in either the Adjustment Powers, Aid, or Multipower sections on a quick scan through. One problem with Aid is that even bought as Succor, it's not really as effective as just buying the power in question with the limitations on it. You're going to average out 3 CP per die of aid, so 5d6 Aid only nets around 3d6 Mindscan on average. Of course, if the device can add to anybody's Mindscan, Aid is the way to go. Or the device could just be a Personal focus for that character. If all the points for it are going on the PC's character sheet instead of the base writeup, I'd say go with extra dice of Mindscan. Farkling
You might be looking at it wrong... For better CONTACT with another mind... (ie, location, range, attack with mental powers) +5d6 Mind Scan, Usable by Others, only usable on beings with Mind Scan abilities, OAF, Immobile. For increased ability to FIND someone +10 ECV, Usable by Others, only usable on beings with Mind Scan abilities, only for Mind Scan rolls, OAF, Immobile. For increased targets Hmmm...I'd have to think on that...which is more representative of the abilities? A Mind Scan with multiple target locking and using abilities on eveyone? Or an Area Effect Mental Attack that requires a Mind Scan roll and doesn't effect anyone of les than an EGO+10 roll?
Farkling
By the way...the above construct can easily include a Side Effect limitation for "exposure to alien minds" or "Body Drain" or "suffers double effect from mental attacks while engaged"
