blood-stone
I was recently going to start a campaign based around the Galactic federation well after the Terran empire falls. The premise is that durring the Empire times and after there is a system called Corma, that Old ships, derelict, decommissioned, confiscated and various other reasons for ships to be there. In addition Corma has around its second planet a world called Eden, its a earth like world where the weather is tropical all the time, and the people there are very friendly. The empire setup a star-base there as a vacation world. Corma also has a singularity orbiting its star, this is where the empire setup the shipyards, around the singularity. several bases were setup to monitor the mothballed fleet of ships, the uses for the fleet are varied and with a science research station also on the edge of the graveyard and a vacation planet just a shuttles ride away, its a very interesting spot. Tasha
Re: Star ships to fighters Unless the Sun of the system is REALLY big it's more likely that the active Sun is actually orbiting the Singularity. If it's close enough the Singularity may also be feeding off of the Sun's surface gas. If so, then the system is a pretty dangerous place to be. Hell, the Singularity alone makes the system dangerous. I guess this system would trip my 'Suspension of Disbelief' has been suspended due to massively bad science. Also what a navigation hazard. If the Singularity isn't feeding it's pretty much invisible. Which means that it could be pretty easy to stumble on if you don't know it's there. dmjalund
Re: Star ships to fighters it could be an artificial singularity, which means it could be any mass. But if it is an "ordinairy" singularity (i.e. a black hole) the smaller its mass, the more it irradiates and the greater rate it is shrinking. Kirby
Re: Star ships to fighters What were you wanting the singularity to be? A singularity is not a black hole (unless you want it to be/to be in one). "Well, a singularity is a very unpleasant thing in physics - basically it means you have a place where things "blow up" - that is, diverge to infinity, and it usually means there is something wrong with the theory. People up till now have not been too upset about singularities in Einstein's theories because they thought they were always cloaked in black holes. Now it turns out they are not. Basically, a black hole is defined by the paths that light takes. Light cannot escape from inside a black hole. Since part of this singularity is outside a black hole, presumably light can escape from it. But, since something in the gravitational fields is diverging at this point, it would definitely be a very unpleasant place to even be near to. Probably would be fascinating to drop stuff into though - you could actually see matter being crushed and torn apart by arbitrarily large forces." - Link I have been interested in this game since I saw the post on HeroCentral, but HC hasn't been working since late yesterday. blood-stone
Re: Star ships to fighters With the Singularity, it does Perturb the star, however its far enough away that it doesn't mess with the two inner planets. Its listed in the database for the GF as Corma 4. There is no Corma 3 listed. This is just the setup as is, the Corma 4 singularity is very far out and masses at about 22.6 suns, There are hazard beacons as you get closer into the singularity, there are oddities about it that I also haven't listed here. Kirby
Re: Star ships to fighters Since Hero Central still isn't up (and hoping that it does return), I was interested in joining and had started creating a couple of characters. I've started a human pilot and have a Toractan security officer in the making. Terran Empire is currently the only Star HERO book I have, but wondered if those species in there were acceptable, just Humans + Species Of The Empire, or just humans? blood-stone
Re: Star ships to fighters I will repost the initial blurb. : Its been two hundred years since the Terran empire itself fell, The Galactic Federation rose from the ashes of the collapse, of the empire. The empire had several shipyards where it sent derelict craft, Damaged ships both friendly and alien, Decommissioned ships and ships to damaged to repair, but useful for parts. Ships that the Empire and later the alliance removed from service. The largest of the ship graveyards Is located in the middle of The new Federation, its near enough to trade lanes to be a viable source for parts and materials, in addition its also the location of one of the most pristine planets, know as Eden. The official designation of Eden is actually Corma 2-3. Eden orbits a massive gas giant, and it in a perfect spot for warm weather. The indigenous people on the planet, are very calm and when first contact was made, they were not at all surprised or even concerned with people from the stars. The culture they encountered on the planet was sophisticated, and had no real interest in exploring the galaxy. Almost overnight it became the place to go to rest and relax. With the planet covered in 60% ocean there were beaches everywhere. The Corma System has in the planetary database the following Corma 1 : Small hard rock body, .883 AU from Corma surface, Temperature ranges between 575°C and -111°C Corma 2 : Gas Giant has several moons, one of them is Eden Corma 2-3: Eden Corma 4: Class 2 singularity, the Corma system is a binary system with a small singularity, that has been pressed into service to contain the Graveyard. Orbiting Corma 4 Singularity is the ship graveyard, there are several bases around the graveyard facilities Alliance Owned GSC42 (Eden Star port) CTDB0 -Ship graveyard main facility CTDB1 - Ship grave yard ordinance Storage, Restricted access CTIS - Processing centre CTCS0 - Production capable Shipyard Manufacturing facility CTCS1 - Incomplete Shipyard Manufacturing facility CTRS - Corma Weapons and FLT research. Corma Sensor net Alpha - Operates around the singularity Corma Sensor net Beta - Operates around the shipyards Corma Sensor net Delta - Operated and controlled by CTRS for mission profiles along corridor for FTL testing Corma Sensor net Gamma - Operates within the Graveyard Corma Sensor net Epison - Corma Sensor net Zeta - In addition contained within the Corma Ship graveyard are ships from over 270+ races and a total of 1,753,932 ships, not including the fighters and shuttles. Some of the ships are from Pre-Empire time and are ancient. There are several ships that are even older that are being studied by the research teams. A number of breakthroughs in both weapons and FTL have been attributed to the shipyards at Corma. The initial character write up is 75/25 base and disadvantages. Any race in the Galactic federation is allowed, even a custom race, its the backstory that makes the character more alive and you as a player more interested in it. If the site doesn't come up by the 21 st and there is interest, I can open up a forum I have access to to play the game. If your interested, feel free to post here, or message me. I have a board setup on: http://www.kyper.net/TheRPGForum/Forum/index.php?action=unread;c=
