misterdeath
This should answer any pesky questions... http://www.herogames.com/SupportFAQs/abbreviations.htm There you go. The story behind it... When the 5th edition rulebook was finally actually in our sights, we were all sitting around trying to figure what to call the thing. The 4th edition Champs book was the BBB. The 4th edition rules were the HSR. etc. Well, Steve came in and said something like, "you can call it Fred for all I care, provided you buy it." And hence, it was called Fred. Dust Raven
FREd isn't quite as easy to figure out as BBB is it?

Lord Liaden
FWIW I hadn't a clue as to what "BBB" stood for until one poster wrote out "Big Blue Book." It may be easy to grasp after somebody points it out, but up front it's no more obvious than FREd. Heck, most of the cover of that book wasn't even blue. BTW Dinofreak, the actual discussion that led to FREd was pretty amusing.
