Michael Hopcroft
9 hours ago, death tribble said: In watching the BBC version, it has just reached end of part 1 and continued with part 2 so it is roughly 45-50 mins an episode. And so far the only rabbit deaths are the old warren as the group has just met Captain Holly again. IIRC, in the original film, Hazel's party dwindled as time went on, including one rabbit being suddenly swept away by a random passing hawk and never seen again. Is that not in the new film? Leaving it out would sell short on the fundamental terror of the journey of Hazel's band -- that any of them could die at any time for no reason other than the appetite of a random predator. That's what the were born into as rabbits -- being food for everything else in their world. Leaving that out seriously nerfs the story's impact and underestimates Hazel and Fiver's courage. slikmar
I always figured that the purpose of Watership Down was to show that Monty Python was right about rabbits.
