  1. In my game group, we have people miss hexes from time-to-time (we joke that the hex 'dodged').

I understand what it's supposed to simulate (you can miss in targeting a certain location) and that's fine, but I do agree that DCV 3 is too high.

A normal has an OCV of 3, so they only have a 50% chance of hitting the ground directly in front of them? Really? It's one of those things in Hero that's just silly.

  2. How would you make Bending Powers like in the Avatar series (Last Airbender and Legend of Korra) in Hero 6th edition?

Chi-Blocking and Spiritual Powers too. I'm starting to come up with ideas for this myself, but want to see other GMs take on it.

I'm thinking all such abilities would be pre-made (to enforce genre) and the players would pick what they want for their PC.

The whole universe has a super-hero feel to it, but with very specific powers that work in specific ways. Any design help is welcome!

  3. Your point is very reasonable, SteelCold; but the Black Enchantress as presented in The Coriolis Effect is supposed to be tremendously powerful and growing more so by the year. She did covertly mess with people's minds, but more for the malicious satisfaction than out of need to hide her presence. She's a sociopathic adolescent who's been able to make others do whatever she wants for most of her life, and her increasing magical might has made her cocky.

You also can't overlook one of the visceral appeals of the comic-book genre, where it differs from most of the real world; being able to physically confront personified evil, and punch it in the face. :D

She is young and very naughty, I've always thought that it would be funny if her father (Dr. Arcane) went and spanked her for being such a bad girl.  :bounce:

That would be an unexpected way of dealing with a villain, she gets punished and sent to her room without dinner!

  4. Really shows you how far the power threshold has risen in recent Champions books. BE was supposed to be an epic threat in The Coriolis Effect, but compared to current "master villains" she doesn't pose a significant challenge in a direct confrontation. Although as a behind-the-scenes manipulator she'd still be pretty nasty.

My biggest problem with BE in reuse is her physical fragility. Conceptually that was a deliberate choice, to give her an Achilles' heel; but IME her VPP isn't big enough to protect her in battle and still counterattack effectively. When I used her I gave her the physical stats of her mother, Ch'andarra. Made her a much better balanced encounter without being overwhelming.

I did the same, it was actually a stated option in the Coriolis Effect. I think she would need even more revising for 6th edition to be a challenge these days.

  5. The Black Enchantress was the main villain from the classic adventure "The Coriolis Effect".

It came out in 1986, so the Black Enchantress was a 3rd edition Champions character.

I'd like to see a 6th edition version of her, fleshed out as she should be (the original stats were very sparse).

There is more than one way to write up the Black Enchantress, so I'd like to see what ideas the gurus here can come up with!

The comic book version of the character (from the Heroic Publishing comics) would be interesting as well (even if you don't like them).

  6. OK, I know this failed on Kickstarter previously, but there have been SIX Hero System projects in a row that have successfully funded through Kickstarter. I really want to see this book made, and I think a Kickstarter for it should be tried again.

  7. Re: Black Enchantress

I'd give her Ch'andarra's stats (as suggested in the supplement), up her VPP to 120 active, and change her Mental Manipulation EC into a Multipower. Then I'd adjust her CV/SPD/DEF etc. to fit the heroes in the game.

  8. Re: MYTHIC HERO Kickstarter

I'd like to see the angels added (mentioned in the Demonology section).

I'd really like a significant amount of 'build your own' material added as well for god and pantheon building in a game world. Also, how to replicate divine powers in the hero system, building/playing/GMing gods as PCs, etc.

  9. Re: Damage Negation!

or you could have each die be a diffrent color' date=' and the GM secretly determines before the roll, which dice are going to be ignored[/quote']

I think they'd catch one pretty quickly (my players would). I just want a variant game mechanic where the DN effect is applied after the damage is rolled, as opposed to before (by reducing the number of dice/DC). This would make it easier (for me anyway) to run in game play (and not telegraph things to players, etc).

  10. Re: BOOK OF THE EMPRESS Kickstarter

Crusaders of the Infinite Realities' date=' an organization of mystics who fight against Empress Istvatha. [/quote']

So, they are villains then!

Sounds like an interesting idea that could be used in different ways. Perhaps they would contact the heroes, warning them of an impending invasion.

But who is really the bad guy? What are their true intentions? Is there really even an invasion coming, or is their warning part of an insidious plot?

  11. Re: 6th edition

I mostly liked the changes from 3ed to 4ed as soon as it came out. I think the changes from 5ed to 6ed are even greater, mostly due to the changes in characteristics.

I understand why the changes were made (and agree with it mostly) but I think it wasn't done as well as it should have been and inadvertently broke almost as much as it fixed.

  12. Re: 6th edition

I agree with much of what Checkmate says. One of the guys in my game group summed it up well. He said that all other editions of Hero were evolutionary changes, but 6th was a revolutionary one. This created a one step forward, two steps back effect that left many Hero system fans unhappy. I'm not saying that 6th edition is bad (it isn't) it just changed too much at once and broke some significant things in the process (note my sig).
