  1. Re: Mega Fantasy City Map - My latest project

I lean more towards the side of magical production of food. The farmlands around Tallon abound with crops that are extremely high-yield, even by modern standards. A subtle "magic" and certainly none of the inhabitants would use the word. "Enhanced", maybe.

But you're right. It's a method of solving the big city in the middle of the wilderness problem.

  2. Re: Adult themes in gaming, a rant of sorts

I had a female player create a character in my play by post who was a prostitute. The character now desires now to go out into the world adventuring. I had a discussion with the player out of character and we decided to introduce Tantric magic into the game. It has actually gone very well with the game and the player greatly enjoys it.

  3. I'll give some reputation to the first person that completes the following tasks.

Build a non-compound attack power that has no advantages and costs 13 real points. Be sure to include concept and special effect behind the power. If you feel up to it, create your own power building math challenge.

  4. Re: A Thread for Random Musings

"The customer is always right" was a phrase created by H. Gordon Selfridge. He owned a chain of stores that were eventually bought up and renamed John Lewis Partnership. The company still exists today. H. Gordon Selfridge is already dead, so you cannot kill the person who came up with the phrase. However, if someone does use the phrase on you, tell them that you don't work for John Lewis Partnership.

  5. Re: Astrum Quadrivium Explorers

Quadrivium Astorum Gateway: (Total: 104 Active Cost, 24 Real Cost) Teleportation 4", x8 Increased Mass, Usable By Other (+1/4), Area Of Effect (One Hex; +1/2), Continuous (+1), MegaScale (1" = 10,000 km; +1 1/4) (92 Active Points); OAF Immobile (-2), Arrangement (-1/4), Increased Endurance Cost (x5 END; -2), Conditional Power Requires Touch of Quadrivium Ancestor to Activate (-1), Limited Power Power loses about half of its effectiveness (Can Only Use Fixed Points; -1), Limited Power Gate (-1/2) (Real Cost: 12) plus Teleportation: Fixed Location (12 Locations) (Real Cost: 12)

The Gateway is a large device in the center of each of the twelve ancient temples. Because all gateways are connected to the same, central, power source and the source has grown weak with age, the gateway does not remain open for very long at a time and requires to recharge before it can be operated again.

Because the Pisces gate is currently located below the Mediterranean Sea, opening the gate to that temple after the inner chamber has been flooded, will cause the temple the gate is opening from to flood as well. However, the Pisces gate also has a thirteenth fixed location point located above the Mediterranean Sea, permitting the inner chamber to be purged of flooded water. It is for this reason, that it is believed the temple was intentionally built below sea level.

Actually yes it does. And admittedly, I didn't have my good latin resources on me at the time I came up with the title. I was relying completely on a rather pathetic webpage. Thanks for the correction on that.

  7. Re: Campaign Creation

Set off by the Story as good as Villain thread...

Anyone have any good tools for Campaign Creation? Or just methods that they use to keep it all together?

I've been at this for a long time, but I have a new, young audience -- and frankly, they are probably the best group of role players I've ever had. I want to do my best by them. I want to reduce the flying by the seat of my pants that has gotten me through in the past, and really present them with some well thought out stories and subplots.

The old one-page Campaign checklist is a nice place too start, but there really is not enough there.. and there is soo much that goes into a good campaign (looking back at my longest running campaign, I wish I'd known at the beginning what I knew at the end).

Thoughts, tips, hints, advice and other bon mots appreciated (ok, the occaisional bit of derision will be accepted with good humor, too).

If your running a city based campaign, the best advice I can give you is to sit down and come up with a good idea of what exists within that city. I found some old notes last night where I had detailed the number of banks, food joints, large mansions and estates, schools, federal buildings, and any notable landmarks including a Statue of Burt Reynolds (?!?).

I immediately saved these old notes as I had, instantly, the backbone of a campaign setting. This can really help later in campaigns when you are trying to figure out what the villains are going to do for that week or if the players declare they want to do something. You know what types of places exist in your setting.

  8. Re: Astrum Quadrivium Explorers

So far, these are the four character concepts I would find the most useful for this campaign type. While subject to change based on the release of Pulp Hero, the Descendent is the most needed of the group.

    The Trophey Hunter

Isn't himself unless he has a gun in his hand. He can recognize a gun by sound or by sight. He can shoot with great accuracy at a great distance. His problems begin when ranged combat doesn't work well.

    The Archeologist

Not much for combat but knows enough for survival. He likes to explorer ruins and find lost treasures. He has a knack for finding traps, usually, accidently. He knows nearly every language from every dark corner of the world.

    The Descendent

Actual descendent of the Crossroaders. He knows he comes from them but knows nothing about his people. For him, this is a quest to discover his own identity than seeking great wealth or great power.

    The Vehicle Expert

He isn't in it for the adventure. He is in it because he is one of the few that is good enough to get everyone from point A to point B. He can fix a vehicle from just about any condition if given enough time as long as their is gas to make the vehicle run.
