  1. Re: Champions 6th version

Personally I am in the "wait and see" camp, but I am not real happy about the changes I have heard about so far. I want to see how the figured characteristics are going to be done and what else has been changed to gain the "granular" feel Steve mentioned he wanted to obtain. I'm not holding my breath on this one.

  2. Re: Your "Oh #@$%!" Moment

    as a gm:

I was running a champions murder mystery, with the pc heroes and an npc hero team on an island getaway, supposed to be solving a fake murder for fun. You can imagine the actual plot -- the npc heroes then begin getting bumped off for real, one by one, and it's up to the pc heroes to figure out what's going on.

So, the heroes arrived on the island and met the npc heroes and normals (staff at the mansion, people putting on the murder mystery weekend, etc.) after they got to know all the principals, i started setting the mood, with a storm rolling in (to isolate the heroes on the island). As i described the darkening sky and rolling thunder, an actual storm started up outside the apartment. Not a minor rainstorm, either. Evil-looking clouds, sheets of lightning, driving rain. We ran out onto the balcony to watch it roll in, and the players joked about my *really* setting the mood.

Then we returned to the game, with the characters gathered together in a sitting room, and i said that the lights in the mansion suddenly went out. At almost that exact moment, there was a crash of thunder and the lights in the apartment went out.

I think it freaked all of us out. My players actually awarded *me* experience points for that game.

    lol

  3. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Quotes from a Shadowrun4 game I am playing in, but not running.

    ----------

Team (I don't know their names yet):

    Female Orc Sniper

    Male Elf Mage

    James: Male Human Hacker (Me)

    ----------

The team is following clues left by an abductor that lead to a Native American biker bar.

GM: You enter the bar and its like a scene out of those old west movies where everyone stops what their doing and stares at you.

James: I raise my hand and say, "How."

    GM: Roll Initiative.

    LOL! Classic

  4. Re: Your "Oh #@$%!" Moment

Adamas, Brick w/Body of Adamant - STR 12d6, Move Through for +7d6, & Pushed +4d6 vs. Rebel (Brigade Universe's Superboy/Man). 89 STUN, 25 BODY, & 21 Knock Back. The impact caused a shock wave that shattered windows, knocked back vehicles, and shattered pavement.

    Rebel seemed Unfazed.

Adamas took No BODY, but 59 STUN. Leaving Adamas with very Stunned with 1 STUN and Rebel's hand around his throat. He then tossed Adamas's 3,200kg body several hundred feet out into the harbor.

    Cheers

  5. Re: Your "Oh #@$%!" Moment

    As a GM (DnD game)

The PC's encountered some followers of the main evil deity in the game. During the fight, the PC cleric blinds the villain cleric with a spell. The evil cleric casts word of recall and bails from the fight. The PC's quickly overpower the remaining evildoers and begin the looting. Without thinking, I had put a scroll of word of recall in the treasure. My reason for doing this was there was only 1 cleric in party and he never got to use any scrolls that were found. I thought I was being nice.

The same cleric PC I was trying to help looks at me and said, "Wouldn't this scroll be keyed to the temple of the cleric who wrote it? You know, the one where the blind cleric recalled too?"

The rest of the PC's quickly agreed and gathered around him.

    Me -"Oh #@$%!"

The PC's surprised the blind cleric and her guards and destroyed the small temple. See what I get for trying to be nice? Bastards. Lol.

  6. Re: Your "Oh #@$%!" Moment

Hmmm... one of my first campaigns, when the party found out that the Powered Armor Guy had "Beserk in Combat on a 14 or less" and his most effective attack was "6d6 RKA explosion autofire 10 shots".

First words after the announced attack: "Aw, $4!+!"

My words, immediately after: "There goes the neighborhood."

6d6 RKA explosion autofire 10 shots?

I imagine the city was not real happy with the group after that!

  7. Re: Your "Oh #@$%!" Moment

my namesake, pariah, was a brick with a small elemental magic vpp. In the midst of a fight against thor (odinson, god of thunder, etc.), pariah activated one of his most useful combat spells: Stature of the mountain. It supplemented his strength and defenses, primarily with a few levels of growth.

Thor took one look at me and roared, "giant!!"

    oh #@$%!

    lol!

  8. What situation in a game/session has caused you or your PC to utter those famous words.

Quantum - First time the team encountered the main villain team in our game. They have a ice powered member (Frostblade) with a large AE entangle. His first action got our entire team. Not pretty. Second time was another encounter with the same group. We learned from the first encounter and spread out, however the GM made some great rolls. Three phases into the first turn, one of our team was down and two more stunned.

Stone - Really has not had one. He did have a "whoops" moment when he faced off with another brick in printing room of a major newspaper. Printing presses make great clubs.

    Spectre - none so far.

  9. Re: How does your world handle Magic/Psi?

I must admit as a GM, I am not a fan of most mental powers. IMO its way too easy for mental powers to be story killers. Yes I know there are steps an Arch-Villain can take, but not every villain will smart enough to take these precautions. In my game world PSI exists, but has made a great effort to hide itself from the world. Mental abilities spark a great deal of fear in humanity. PSI prefers to stay in the shadows and influence outcomes rather than announce its presence. PSI also is constantly searching for those with mental abilities. Their goal is to train these people how to use their abilities, and of course to earn their loyalty. If the person has significant mental abilities, PSI is less gentle in its approach with the person. You have two options; 1) Join us, 2) Pick where you want to be buried.

I know this sounds harsh, but it does make things interesting for any PC's who are mental based.

  10. Re: How does your world handle Magic/Psi?

    Hi All,

I will post in my other threads, but I had a question first, that's been brewing for a bit, hope you don't mind :)

Just wanted to know how other people hand Magic and Psionics.

Our world has no official knowledge of Magic or Psi, as both have a sort of "secret society" that scoop up any signs of weirdness and keep them hidden away from sight.

They try to have a "non-interference" clause with the rest of normal society.

The world, however, is pretty standard Super-fare, with four-color heroes and such.

The main hedge of the game runs around a group of heroes with magical abilities, who are (I hate to use the word, as it has certain connotations :) ) masquerading as four-color heroes with public identities, working out of a private investigation-style office to try and help out the city (which is New York City).

I know this is a bit unusual for standard Champions fare, but I've been having a LOT of fun with it, especially since it forces the PCs to deal with the more "flamboyant" four-color world as well as having the standard secrets (tho not SI) and magical things that they have to try and keep quiet.

Please let me know what you think of my world, and also let me know how you handle these sorts of things in yours.

    Thanks :)

    -SC

Sounds interesting, but are the PC's part of a secret society scooping up magic/psionic items/people, or are they operating on their own? If they are operating on their own, then you could use said secret society to begin to watch, track, interfere, recruit, or even hunt/capture the PC's.

I agree with what has been said. Psionics would breed suspicion & fear amongst the populace far greater than magic would. You have an interesting game setting.

  11. Re: Paths Not Taken

Gwen Stacey did not die from the fall off the bridge. She eventually forgave Spiderman for her father's death. She continued her research in biochemistry and successfully recreated the super soldier formula. Not wanting to endanger anyone else, she injects herself with the serum. She develops peak human abilities, and decides to honor her father by fighting crime. She also knows the formula would be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands, so she destroys it and all her notes.

  12. Re: Escaped Amorphoid

Quantum - requests all data collected by the staff had collected as well as interviewing the staff to try and determine what type of risk the amorphoid is. He would contact the local authorities as well as the water department and give them the heads up and ask he be informed of any unusual incidents. He would work with the scientist to find a way to humanly capture the amorphoid IF the data reveals there is a threat (ex. how does it reproduce?). If it becomes dangerous, he will work with authorities track it down and take it down.

Stone - Goo? How do I fight goo?

Spectre - If it does not harm innocents, it is not my concern.

  13. Re: Mutants and Masterminds: Why did you stay/come back?

For me, M & M has some serious rules issues. I was trying to build a character who could turn into a shadow. The character example they give in the book violates the rules for alternate form. I also did not like some of the defenses where you can simply ignore attacks of a lesser power level. I admit I'm not uber knowledgeable when it comes to the rules for M & M, but it just didn't work for me.

"my name is nicholas fury. I used to be a spy until..."

man on wrist vid communicator: We've got a burn notice on you. You're blacklisted.

"when you're burned you've got nothing. No cash, no credit, no job history. You're stuck in whatever city they decide to dump you in."

    fury: Where am i?

La contessa valentina allegra de fontaine: New york.

"you do whatever work comes your way."

*shot of goblin glider blowing up*

"you rely on anyone who's still talking to you. A trigger happy on-and-off girlfriend."

la contessa valentina allegra de fontaine: Should we shoot them?

"an old friend who used to inform on you to sheild."

dum dum dugan: You know spies. Bunch of bitchy little girls.

    "x-men too..."

*shot of wolverine. Followed by scene of fury and dugan as a nick's cellphone rings*

dum dum dugan: Hey, is that logan again?

    "...if you're desperate."

logan: Some mutants need your help, nick.

"bottom line, as long as your burned, you're not going anywhere."

    lol. Repped!

  18. Re: Ideas for Teen Champions Mini-campaign for 6e when it comes out.

What power level are you considering? Are you doing the standard 350 (assuming that is the standard level in 6e)?

    Possible scenarios:

    1) Terrorists take over the high school and attempt to ransom the students and teachers (this one can have many variants, ex. someone famous is coming to the school to give a speech)

    2) Family ties to a villain and the PC's attempt to capture villain

    3) A master villain attempts to recruit the PC's

    4) PC's have just come into their abilities and have to learn to control and conceal them

    5) Bank robbery happens and the PC's parents are caught inside
