  1. Re: Emotion Sense - would you allow this or is it munckin?

I agree. Rather than see it built as a Sense' date=' I think I'd prefer to see it bought as Telepathy with appropriate Limitations.[/quote']

Hmm...well Ultimate Mentalist pg 49 says a character can use mind scan to determine the number of sentient minds in an area using a base DECV of 3 modified by the number of people.

While this does allow the character to do one aspect of what I was looking for, it does not allow for other abilities I was looking for. Ultimate Mentalist also has Read Emotions pg 119 (Telepathy really. Greater than EGO read emotions, EGo +10 deeper reading what caused the emotions, EGO +20 emotional memories, EGO +30 read subconscious instances of emotions).

I would perfer not have to make two seperate rolls (1 mind scan & 1 telepathy) in order to achieve the same as 1 Sense Emotions roll.

  2. Ok. The ability I am trying to build is more powerful version the Detect Emotions listed in USPD & Ultimate Mentalist (pg 121). It does the same, but also allows the user to identify people by their "emotional fingrprint" and track them. The user is able to determine the number of minds around him/her as well (similar to mind scan).

Emotion sense - Detect Emotions (single thing, Mental Group), discriminatory, Analyze, 360 perception, sense, targeting, tracking 35 points

I know I have talked about this before, but I wanted to read through the ultimate mentalist a bit before I posted again to make sure this was a valid build.

  3. Re: Running jokes in your campaign

In our current DnD game, we have a not so intelligent half orc fighter named "Ront". In one session we were tracking down a cult in the sewers (don't ask) when we came to hidden room. We had a small encounter in the room and after that we searched it. We found a small hidden latch. Since it was dark in the room, we told the half-orc "You have dark vision, you look." So he carefully opened the latch to peer inside....and into the barrel of pistol...and yes he got shot in the eye. Since that point the running gag has been "You have dark vision, you go first" regardless of where we are at the time.

In a previous rolemaster game, a female PC played a hobbit thief (great comic relief) who had what could only be described as a strange affinity for animals...especially small woodland creatures. Somehow this took on a life of itself and whenever the PC fumbled a roll or was just totally lost on a problem, a racoon would appear and either laugh or point the way (yeah, I know..silly).

Same PC in Champions. She played a shrinking energy projectored. The GM had a mineral in the game called hyperium that emitted radation. The radiation and the effect it had on those w/powers varied by the color of the hyperium. During one session the shrinking PC got ahold of some hyperium that reversed her shrinking (she now grew). Ever since that session, the PC is constantly looking for more hyperium and we have to tell her to leave it alone. She also has a pych disad if she thinks someone has actually seen her when she is shrunk, she will blast them.

  4. Re: Thunderbird Questions

I don't think he necessarily had Regen.

Of course, at 30+ REC, you basically gain back a point of BOD per day of rest so he does probably heal fast relative to a normal person still.

Hmmm...I swear I can remember an issue where T-bird is running through some woods and comes to a cliff and is thinking about jumping to prove himself. Storm stops him and asks what he is doing and he tells her can regen. She says she knows, but its not as good as Wolverines.

Then again I've hit my head a few times since then so who knows.

  5. Re: WWYCD: Famous Guy II

Quantum - Secure the crime scene. Find out how many other heroes/villians in the area have superhuman str and flight. Talk to her editor, hack her computer (w/a court order), & search her home, car, & office to try to find out what story she was working on. Shake up the local under world to find out what is going on at the docks. Go to where the evidence points. Also request a trustworthy telepath from Primus or UNTIL speak w/Paragon.

Stone - "I'm no detective. Once the guys in the suits figure it out, I'll be happy to go crack some heads."

Spectre - Justice must be done. A few presence drains and presence attacks should loosen up some closed mouths down at the docks.

  6. Re: Good-by Brick

Why drain their areas of strength (no pun intended). A DEX drain makes the usually slow Brick an even easier target' date=' and poorer shot. INT drains will quickly see them playing in a mud puddle rather than fighting.[/quote']

I targeted the bricks' strengths to attack the core of the archtype. How many PC bricks targeted by a Str drain would not become nervous (minus power defense of course). You are right in that the INT drain would take the brick out the fight quicker, but it also risk the chance of a "Hulk" incident where the brick blindly begins smashing objects (people included). While this may be great to get them out the fight and force the brick's teammate to try to stop him, if the bad guys are too close..oops.

Ego drains or Pre drains could be effective as well.

    I

  7. Re: Good-by Brick

Flight' date=' usable against others. Most Bricks run or leap - isolating them 150' in the air effectively takes them out of the fight.[/quote']

good point. Teleport usable against others works good to. POOF! Brick be gone!

  8. Re: Good-by Brick

Str, Stun, & End drains work and will make the strongest brick nervous (unless they have power defense of course).

Flashes are always a good way to take a brick out of a fight for awhile

Going back to a previous post the NND. Most folks gotta breathe, taking away the brick's air is usually very effective.

But you could always go back to another age old method, another brick.

  9. Re: Big Blue in control: WWYD

Too late; you already started it. Nothing to do now but say

    LOL.

    Ok, here goes:

Quantum - After the burning of the drug plantations, would confrot he/she/it/them (if its a them, Quantum would bring backup) and try to reason with he/she/it/them. He most likely not take any aggressive action at this time unless attacked. After the second action by he/she/it/them, Quantum would be forced to try apprehend he/she/it/them. This would involving lots and lots of planning and study to try to find how to end any fight as quickly, painlessly, and w/as little property damage as possible.

Stone - Serves the drug czars and terrorist right. Dictators? Bah! worlds better off w/out them. If it stopped there, it's unlikely Stone would get involved unless any fight from getting out of hand.

Spectre - Drug Czars, terrorist, dictators are all guilty of crimes againsy the innocent and should be hunted down. He would wonder what took he/she/it/them so long to figure it out. Now, lets get down to business. Here is a list of the guilty.

  10. Re: Big Blue in control: WWYD

I don't want to censor you or anything' date=' though. Just pointing out what has happened in the past...[/quote']

I didn't take it as such. Just if it has already been done and it did not turn out well, then best to move on. =)

  11. I have not seen this scenario yet, but hopefully I did not overlook it.

The most powerful hero or hero team (not villians) has decided things are spiraling out of control on the planet. First he/she/it/them moves against the drug czars. The news reports several massive fires at major drug plantations across the world. He/she/it/them is very careful to ensure the safety of people near the fires, but the drug crops and production facilities are destroyed. He/she/it/them make an announce stating any attempt to rebuild the planations will be dealt w/swiftly. He/she/it/them then move against terrorism and hit locations in the Middle East, Africa, North Korea, and other locations around the world all but elimating the ability of the terrorist from putting together any serious threat. Again he/she/it/them make an announcement stating any attempt to rebuild will be swiftly dealt with. You and/or your team find out the next thing on his/her/its/their list is third world dictatorships. The plan is to bring down all dictators and enstall a democratic/representitive government. What do you do and at what point would you/team act?

  12. Re: Modern Magic setting...opinions needed

Take a look at The Gift magic system in the Fantasy Hero Sourcebook.. I've been thinking of adapting it to a modern magic game, it's pretty cool.

Basically - 5 pt perk gives you a 25 pt VPP - You don't spend points on spells, you find them/ create them, with a magic roll at penalty you can boost/reduce the effects..

With a minor mod or two, could be just what you're looking for

    -CraterMaker

    Sweet! Thanks

  13. Re: Modern Magic setting...opinions needed

I have never really used the Hero system for much more than Champions. I do have Shadowrun variant I run, but I'm pretty open w/the magic system. I'm in the process of going through the Grimoire right now. I'm not a fan of require componets for spells, but if someone to use them as a limitation I have no problem w/that.

The setting will have a ruling council that enforces the "laws" for magic. Magic is very rare in the world. StGrimblefig is right. I need to revamp the no magic. Originally I was wanting some minor spells to be available to normals if they had some way to learn to say the right words, but after thinking it over I am going to do away w/that.

  14. I am putting together a modern magic setting and I don't want magic available to anyone who learns how to speak the words (within reason). Therefore I come up w/the following talents that are required for anyone wishing to play a magically inclined character:

no magic - 0 pts, spell ap's cannot exceed 5 pts

low magic - 5 pts, spell ap's cannot exceed 15 pts

mage - 10 pts, spell ap's cannot exceed 30 pts

high magic - 15 pts, spell ap's cannot exceed 45 pts

This is based on a 150 pt character. Do these requirements seem resonable?

  15. Re: WWYCD - little girls and diplomatic troubles

Quantum - Outraged! Would take the girl to embassy to get medical attention. He would push the diplomats to push for change. In the mean time he would find out how much dear old dad was charging and offer twice that on the condition he never pimped her out again. He'd then get in secret id and go find the caveman and have a face to fist chat w/him.

Spectre - The father and the other man must pay. The father would suffer a tragic accident, as would the caveman. The girl is an innocent and must be protected. This would mean she would be taken away to someplace, he simply would not care about the results.

Stone - Somebody needs to teach dad and Mongo a lesson. After making sure the girl was ok, he would grab a couple bricks and find away to be alone w/dad and the other guy. While grinding a brick to dust in his hand, he would suggest the daughter never be put in that position again. Otherwise he might be tempted do too certain parts of their anatomy what he did to the bricks. Of course he would deny any of this if the dad and other guy contacted the police.

  16. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Street samurai sitting at a table in a dive bar attempts to use his legs to push his chair back to fall then roll up onto his feet drawing his sword off his back in one motion. He fails his role badly. He ends pushing his chair back and then falling backwards while still sitting in his chair gripping the sword strapped across his back.

"That was so much more impressive in my head."

  17. Re: WWYD - Marvel's Civil War

It should interesting to see how Marvel deals w/the fallout from this series. While I am sure the law will be overturned in the end, how are the heroes gonna relate to each other afterwards? Is anyone really gonna trust Ironman or Reed Richards after this? Even Spiderman is gonna have to work on getting back in the good graces of some that were against the law. Powerman or Falcon (can't remember which) called him a sell out. This series pretty much destroys Marvel's universe.

  18. Re: WWYD - Marvel's Civil War

Well I guess I should post an answer to my own WWYD:

I really don't follow the CU setting where the registeration act occured

Quantum - Already in a quasi-government position. Would publicly speak out against the act and contact the ACLU to help challenge the law. He would refuse to capture "meta's" who refused to register (except villians of course). If push came to shove he would join the resistance.

Stone - would refuse. "You want me? Come get me."

Spectre - I am beyond your laws. He would not register, nor would he join the resistance. He would try to take advantage of any distraction this provided to hunt down those who endanger the innocent.

  19. Re: GM Help: Supervillainous Death

You could the DA take the case to a grand jury. Make the heroes answer some questions and then the grand jury refuses the case. The DA can say he did his job and system cleared the heroes. I agree w/Doug McCrae, have Tachyon's sister/brother/cousin/pet goldfish swear vengence upon the PC's and have he/she/it show up a few times over the next couple sessions until the heroes can capture he/she/it. Make it good, the heroes have to rescue he/she/it from a major villian.
