  1. The team your character is on (or you just teamed up with if your a solo character) has a "Wolverine" mentality member. He/she has no problem using killing attacks or full power attacks against opponents no matter if they are weaker or non-powered. Your last encounter resulted in 2 dead Viper agents and 4 more critically injured. The press is having a field day and the authorities are now looking for your team mate. How do you handle this?

  2. Re: CU Character Study: Gravitar

Though she doe not have a master plan, that does not mean she is incapable of planning a major event, or take advantage of another villain's plan. If news got out of a villain battling a hero or hero group near by, she could easily take the opportunity to show up and drop the weary or possibly injured hero/group in front of all the media to show the world how powerful she is. Not having a master plan does not maker her any less dangerous or devious.

  3. Re: CU team study: Eurostar

Surely there is a major freeway leading to/from Millennium City. There could easily be something valuable being transported along the freeway EuroStar wants or needs. Attacking the transport in Cincinnati means no Champions. A university or private company could develop some technology that EuroStar also wants or needs. Hitting cities like Cincinnati makes since to me. Why would you want to commit crimes in the cities where major hero teams are based? I've always wondered why all the villains in Marvel go to New York. There are way to many heroes there.

Quantum - Would try to contact the government to see what information they have on the phenomenon. Is it confined to the Earth, or is it also happening through the known galaxy? If Quantum has any luck with the government, try to track when the disturbances began and is there a pattern? Take advantage of the high tech from the police/Primus group to try to track down the source of the phenomenon. Talk to Dr. Silverback if he is an option. Assemble whatever heroes and/or villains he could to try to stop the phenomenon.

Stone - um...this for people smarter than me. Tell me what needs to be broken and I'll handle that.

    Spectre - not my problem

  5. Re: Examples of low-powered/street level supers not from comics

Well...usually street level heroes either get re-written to be way more powerful than they actually are (ex. Batman & Capt. America), and end up being able to stand up to cosmic level threats, or their books do not sell well enough for them to remain as a solo hero (ex. Green Arrow & Black Cat). Now of course there are exceptions to this (Daredevil is the best one that comes to mind). So finding street level comic heroes might be a little difficult unless you are willing to do some digging or research. The suggestion from above about looking at the B-list is a good one, but my first question is what abilities are you looking for in street level heroes? My second question is what do you consider to be "street level"?

  6. Re: Super Powered nation: 40 Days and 40 nights

Quantum - Would not be happy, but would go. First he would speak with Dr. Silverback to find a way to increase his power defense. Second, he would not like to go alone. Quantum would meet with RJ and ask him a series of questions. Thinks like what are your intentions? How far do you plan to grow your new empire? How do you plan to interact with your neighbors? Do you plan to abide by established treaties? How will you react if your policies anger your neighbors? All of these questions are extremely important, as are the number of bodyguards RJ has with him. Obviously the note and the pill raise concerns as well. Assuming he is being watched at all times, Quantum would not try to sneak around. He would ask for permission to fly around the country. This would give him time to plan his response. If RJ's answers are satisfactory, no action is needed. Quantum would suggest the UN keep a very close eye on RJ and plan out measures to stop him if needed. If RJ's answers are unsatisfactory, then action would be taken. Quantum would try to meet w/RJ at night and with as few bodyguards as possible. His first action would be to kill the lights, then proceed to immobilize RJ and his guards as quickly as possible. Then he would administer the pill, then run.

Stone - Sigh...I'm no diplomat. Asks RJ three simple questions; 1) Do you plan on attacking any neighbors? 2) Are you going to hold elections? 3) Why do you need the "ironman" army? If he likes the answers, Stone would say "Fair enough, but don't do anything stupid to make me come back here". If he did not like the answers, Stone would proceed to pound RJ and his guards into submission, then force feed him the pill. Stone would stick around to pound the Dragon and the other villain into submission as well. He would then tell the UN to come in and fix this mess before more people get hurt.

    Spectre - would not go

  7. Re: Help with a goofy power build

Sorry, not really getting this power. She can change the temperature by plus or minus 80 degrees? She can obscure vision with the same effectiveness of total darkness? This sounds like a lot more than simply making things gloomy or brightening things up. Why so much oomph for what is suppose to be a cosmetic sort of power?

    Also, what is group participation?

You do have a point. Maybe I can get the GM to simply give her the ability without having to build it. The PC wants her mood to effect the immediate area. For example; in the middle of summer when it's 100+ degrees and someone hacks her off it might suddenly start snowing in her immediate area (hence the 8 levels of temp change). The group participation is strictly for small animals. The player and the PC both love small animals. I was trying to make it so any small animals in her immediate area also participate in her mood swings. Using the previous example of snow, any small animals might throw tiny snowballs at the persons who angered her, or shake branch causing more snow to fall on the person.

  8. First thank everyone for their help on my earlier questions. Now I have a new series. A player for an upcoming game has a request for a unique power. Here is the effect:

Her mood effects the area immediately around her (4m radius). If she's depressed, the area gets gloomy. If she's happy, it's sunny, etc... The player and the character both enjoy being comic relief in our group, and both love small animals. Taking that into consideration, I have added a change environment for the simple effect of having small animals participate in her mood swings.

This is not meant to be a combat effective power. It is a story/character quirk ability. Here is the build so far:

    Change Environment (Mood setting)

    Base Cost - 24 pts

    Temperature Level +/- 8 (10 degrees/level)

Area Effect Radius up to 4m +1/4

    Reduced END (0 END) +1/2

    42 42 42 0 (Active/Real/Total/END)

    Change Environment (Group participation)

    Base Cost - 10 pts)

Area Effect Radius up to 4m +1/4

    Reduced END (0 END) +1/2

    Linked (Mood setting) -1/2

    18 12 12 0

    Change Environment (Mood enhancement)

    Base Cost - 4 pts)

    Perception roll -4

    Reduced END (0 END) +1/2

    Linked (Mood setting) -1/2

    7 5 5 0

The second part of the question is control. Since this is all set to her mood, should I put a roll on the power for the power not to happen?

  9. Re: Character for review

By all accounts, Alexander Kingston was born into a life of luxury. His great-grandfather, Edward Kingston founded Kingston Industries in 1915. Since that time, Kingston Industries has grown into a true mega-corporation worth hundreds of billions of dollars. Kingston Industries is involved in virtually every legal major industry on the planet, as well as several minor industries.

As a result, Alexander’s childhood was something out of a Hollywood movie. He was a well liked and popular boy in school. Everything was perfect until the headaches began shortly after his fifteenth birthday. Alexander was forced out of school as he endured endless medical test. He became sensitive light to the degree his parents removed all lights from Alexander’s room and had the windows covered to prevent any light from entering the room. Feeling secluded from the world, Alexander would strain to hear the world outside his dark prison. Within a month, it seemed as though his hearing had improved. If he concentrated he could hear conversations in and around the house, but he could not control what part of the house he could pick up conversations.

A few months later Alexander was downstairs late at night. His parents had just returned from a fund raiser and did not realize he was downstairs, turned on the lights. Alexander screamed in pain as light filled the room. He threw his arms over his face to protect himself; suddenly the entire room was engulfed in darkness. The moment the darkness filled the room, Alexander’s headache vanished. He could see perfectly in the darkness while his parents were blinded and beginning to panic. Alexander concentrated and the darkness vanished. Light again filled the room. Only this time the light had no effect on Alexander. His mother was the first to notice the change in Alexander’s eyes. His green pupils had turned black.

Overjoyed Alexander was no longer bothered by light but understandably worried about their son’s newfound mutant abilities; his parents insisted he keep his powers a secret. Alexander returned to school, graduated, and then headed to college. Although Alexander excelled in college and enjoyed a very active social life, he secretly practiced his abilities. He wanted to tell his friends, but he was worried how they would react. After graduating college, Alexander returned home and began working in the family business. He kept his active social life, and soon became a regular storyline in the social section of the paper, much to his parents dislike.

On his twenty-third birthday, Alexander’s parents were kidnapped. His father had left explicit instructions with the lawyers no ransom was to be paid should be kidnapped. After three months of negotiations, his father’s body was found in a dumpster across the street from police headquarters. Two years passed. No arrests have been made and there has been no word about his mother. She is presumed to be dead. During the past two years, Alexander has dedicated himself finding those responsible for his father’s death and his mother’s disappearance. He practiced his abilities and learned many useful skills. His actions against the underworld are beginning to be noticed by the press, authorities, and the underworld. Alexander maintains billionaire playboy appearance so no one will suspect his activities.

  11. I am trying to build a small "sticky" darkness field. I don't have 6E Champions Powers, but I was looking at a friend's copy. On page 75, there is a "sticky" darkness field built as follows:

    Darkness 3m

Usable as an attack +1 1/4

    Range +1/2

Why do you need to add range to this? Darkness already has a range of 10m x base points? Am I missing something? Also, am I correct in interpreting this build to mean this power is rolled against a character's DCV and not a hex's DCV?

  12. Re: How to understand the SuperHero Genre

My first question is what do you like about the superhero genre? You said you played Marvel, what type of character(s) did you identify with? I think once you have identified what about comics you like, it will help you get into the superhero genre. I started with DND myself, but I now prefer Rolemaster (I know, I'm in a very small minority). Champions for me was a chance to play in the world of comics. I learned to read by reading comics. The whole being a hero thing is something I enjoy when I play. With that comes the "great power, great responsibility" part, but again I enjoy that.

I agree with an earlier post, maybe you should try dark champions where characters like the Punisher are more the norm. You are going to have to find your "connection" to the superhero genre or you will simply not enjoy the game like others do. There are genres that I simply cannot get into; steam/cyberpunk and cthulhu are two that jump to mind right now. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with those genres, they simply hold little interest for me. It may be the same for you and the superhero genre.

  13. I am putting together a darkness based character. The power I am trying to build is a small area of darkness that "sticks" to the poor folks inside meaning that even if the people inside the darkness field leave the area, they are still effected by the darkness. I hope this does not sound too cheesy. Anyway here is what I have so far, please take a look and see if this works:

    Darkness 3m

    Base cost 15 points

    Personal Immunity +1/4

    Reduced END (0 END) +1/2

    Sticky +1/2

Usable as an attack +1 1/4

    Total cost = 53 points

  14. Re: Lists of items or artifacts

Wait, so Excalibur is mythological but the Spear of Destiny is not??

Most artifacts do have mythologies built around them. But when you're looking, I recommend looking beyond European history. The Japanese has a sword called Kusanagi. In China there was a man who built a chair with rockets (done on Mythbusters) in addition to being the first civilizations to use gunpowder and paper money, Incas and Aztecs were pretty sophisticated civilizations and have some interesting items (like the crystal skulls). In Vietnam history there's a sword called Thuận Thiên used by a king to liberate his country from China. I'm not quite sure what you're looking for though.

My fault for not clarifying. I am working on a campaign based in the 1930's were PC's are sent after artifacts/relics after it is discovered Hitler is also looking for artifacts/relics. Items of the Christian mythology to a certain extent I think would fit in better in the premise than items such has Excalibur (like Indiana Jones). It not my intent to insult anyone's religious beliefs, so my apologies if anyone is offended by referring to "Christian mythology".

Items I am looking for are items of legend & lore, or items rumored to have been created by famous scientists that fit into this concept. I know there are tons of items in mythology in general, but a majority of them would not fit into the campaign premise. Does that make any sense?
