  1. Re: Campaign - Rhymidian Empire

Guess I left a couple of things out. The Underking is the crime boss of the empire. He has lieutenants in every major city in the Empire. Correct, there is no Emperor at this time. The Regent is in power, but he does not have the political backing to be named emperor. The goods are coming from the surrounding smaller cities and villages. There is no trade with the Orcs & Goblins.

  2. Re: Campaign - Rhymidian Empire

    Plot Items

The PC's will eventually discover the Emperor's two children are still alive and where they are being held.

There are two mage guilds in the empire. They have always remained neutral as far as politics are concerned. It now seems that some members of both guilds are joining forces in order to take power for themselves

An evil god's followers are lurking in the shadows plotting to seize the power of the emperor's throne. Attacks on rival temples have begun

The Regent has never acknowledged following any of the gods, but the PC's find evidence linking the Regent to an evil god

The Orc's & Goblins have been too unorganized for over two hundred years to pose a real military threat. Someone is beginning to change that. Someone has begun to organize and equip the many Orc and Goblin tribes.

  3. Re: Campaign - Rhymidian Empire

    House Kohlme

    Arch-Duke: Jakob Kohlme

    Resources: Wood/lumber, charcoal

    Capital: Weslyn

    Colors: Green/Brown

A heavily wooded region of the empire, House Kohlme is renown for the rangers/scouts/archers that come from this region. Chain armor is usually the heaviest armor seen in this area. Cities and villages tend to be somewhat isolated due to the dense forests. House Kohlme has invested in magical methods to maintain lines of communication and transportation. The orcs & goblins have invaded this region on multiple occasions over the past 500 years thinking its dense forest would disguise their incursion. However the rangers and druids of the region quickly discovered the invasions and Kohlme’s forces were able to stall the orc and goblin forces until imperial forces could arrive.

Rivals: Salator, Canis , & Galitsin

    House Langdon

    Arch-Duke: Sedric Langdon

    Resources: Ore, cattle, Coy River

    Capital : Seripan

    Colors: Blue/White

One of the regions favored by the preist of Goram due to it’s border with the orcs & goblins area. The knights of House Langdon are more battle tested than almost any other house. As a result, only the imperial knights are held in higher regard. Due to the high ore content of this region, some of the best blacksmiths & weaponsmiths of the empire can be found here. The Coy River is the largest river in the Empire. It serves as a major commerce thruway for the empire.

    Rivals: Meachem & Canis

    House DeGara

    Arch-Duchess: Kira DeGara

    Resources: Grain, wool, horses

    Capital: Melidor

    Colors: Yellow/Green

The large plains of this region make it very suitable for farmlands. House DeGara has spent hundreds of years breeding horses. There simply are no better horses in the empire than DeGara horses. The light cavalry from region is the best in the empire.

    Rivals: Elsin, Belwyn, Jerod

    House Elsin

    Arch-Duke: Travis Elsin

    Resources: Gold, silver, Coy River

    Capital: Tal Dera

    Colors: Red/Yellow

The capital of the empire is located in this region. The current Regent (Mathis Elsin) is from this house. This region has been blessed with gold and silver deposits. The majority of the gold and silver in the empire is mined here under very tight security. The Coy River runs near the capital, which allows goods from the border to flow into the city. A rich region by any definition, many of the wealthiest merchants of the empire reside in this region.

    Rivals: DeGara, Naless, Belwyn

    House Perrin

    Arch-Duchess: Rena Perrin

    Resources: Ore, stone, gems

    Capital: Thoridane

    Colors: Brown/White

This region contains a large mountain range. The stone quarried here was used to build Tal Dera. A higher dwarf population can be found here than in any other region. The dwarves are on very good terms with House Perrin. In fact the dwarves help build Thoridane. The city is thought to be impregnable. There are rumors that the city continues well underground where vast tunnels and caverns hold the food and water to shelter the populace of the entire city. The dwarven smiths that reside in this region are highly sought after.

    Rivals: Salator, Naless, and Meacham

    House Salator

    Arch-Duke: Braton Salator

    Resources: Fish, pearls, coral

    Capital Kerstal

    Colors: Red/White

This region is the western border of the empire and ends at the Auron Ocean. A large majority of the shipping ports of the empire can be found here. The imperial navy is also in this region.

    Rivals: Kohlme & Perrin

    House Belwyn

    Arch-Duke: Gareth Belwyn

    Resources: Magic, silk

    Capital: Geiro

    Colors: Yellow/White

This region is the southwest border of the empire. The highest population of elves is found in this region. The elves are on good terms with House Belwyn, and as a result magic is very prevalent in this region. While the Navigators Guild and the Order of the Arcane Blood both are headquartered in Tal Dera, many believe their true headquarters are secreted away in this region.

    Rivals: DeGara & Elsin

    House Meacham

    Arch-Duchess: Alana Meachem

    Resources: Ore, stone, wool

    Capital: Toberi

    Colors: Black/White

This region is the eastern border of the empire. It too has dealt with the orcs and goblins, but not to the extent of House Langdon.

    Rivals: Langdon & Perrin

    House Canis

    Arch-Duke: Relan Canis

    Resources: Stone, wood, cattle

    Capital: Canisnor

    Colors: Red/Black

Another region favored by the preists of Goram. This region fields some of the finest infantry units found in the empire. Rumors say the Underking is from this region.

    Rivals: Kohlme & Langdon

    House Galitsin

    Arch-Duke: Dorivan Galitisin

    Resources: Grapes (wine)

    Capital: Pocerna

    Colors: Green/White

This region is full of small and large vineyards. The finest wines in the empire come from this region.

    Rivals: Kohlme

    House Jerod

    Arch-Duchess: Fiona Jerod

    Resources: Cotton (linen)

    Capital: Karowa

    Colors: Yellow/Brown

Known as the Iron Duchess, Fiona rose to power in a bloody coupe five years ago. Since that time many of her family rivals have suffer deadly accidents or gave been the victims of deadly assassins. No one in this region questions her power or her desire to maintain it. It is said Fiona would sleep with the dark one himself to become Empress. Its just not said any place she can hear it.

    Rival: Naless

    House Naless

    Arch-Duke: Hector Naless

    Resources: Grain, wool

    Capital: Quin

    Colors: Black/Yellow

One of the smaller regions of the empire, the prime farmlands found here makes Naless an important region. Renown for its skill in the arts of healing, House Naless has a university dedicated for training healers. Many temples dedicated to healing also can be found in this region.

    Rivals: Elsin, Perrin, and Jerod

  4. Re: Campaign - Rhymidian Empire

    The Council of Lords

    1) House Kohlme

    2) House Langdon

    3) House DeGera

    4) House Elsin

    5) House Perrin

    6) House Salator

    7) House Belwyn

    8) House Meacham

    9) House Canis

    10) House Galitsin

    11) House Jerod

    12) House Naless

Each of the twelve houses has one seat on the council. The Council elects one member to be the Regent. The Regent heads the Council and rules in the Emperor’s place when he away from Tal Dera. The Council handles the administration of the Empire, however the Emperor can overrule their decisions. The Current Regent is Mathis Elsin.

  5. Here is a campaign idea I have been working on. It is intended to be a political themed campaign with a civil war. I would welcome any thoughts or criticism.

    Campaign Premise:

Since the Empire formed five hundred years ago, the Orcs and Goblins have been held in check. No major raids or invasion have occurred during this time. Activity along the Orc border has been increasing for the past ten years leading some to believe the Orcs are gearing up for an invasion. Emperor Randel and his family were ambushed by Orcs ten years ago while enroute to Seripan. The Emperor’s two children (son and daughter) were never found. The Regent now rules the Empire. There are some who whisper (very quietly) the Regent had a hand in the disappearance of the children.

The PC’s will begin in the walled city of Serl in the northeast corner of the Empire. It is a border city near the Orc border. Baron Jacob Langdon commands the city and its 2000 man garrison. The city is the last major city before reaching the border. As such, it is the major commerce area of the region (hence the reason for the garrison). Serl is less than 100 miles from the Orc border. There are five small towers called “way towers” between the city and the border. There area is patrolled heavily and scouts routinely enter into Orc territory to look for signs of activity.

There are twelve major noble houses in the Empire. The Empire is divided in the twelve regions, each region overseen by one of the noble houses. Administration of each region is left to the ruling noble house. Representatives of the Empire are present in each region to remind the noble houses of their allegiance to the Empire. Each house has its own small militia, but there are multiple strongholds in each region manned by Empire forces.

    Serl:

A walled city of approximately 10,000 people. Almost any type of crafting can be found here. Magic is present in the city, but not on every corner. The Baron has restricted the traffic of magic weapons in the city. The majority of the population is human, however almost all races (except Orc, goblins, & their allies) can be found in the city. The Coy River is about a mile from the city. The river flows in from the mountains and through the heart of the Empire. Almost all trade goods are shipped into the Empire by the river. The river is closely guarded to prevent the Orcs & Goblins from using it against the Empire.

  6. Re: Crisis of Infinite Champions: 10 brave heroes

Quantum - would not hesitate to volunteer. He would spend the next 24 hrs trying learn as much as he could about the Anti-Monitor, his forces, the Anti-Matter Universe, and trying to come up with some tactics

Stone- No one is going take out my universe! What are we waiting for? Stone would spend the next 24 hours trying to get gear. Like big wrecking ball with a extremely strong chain.

Spectre - too many innocent souls would be lost if the Anti-Monitor succeeds. He would volunteer to go.

  7. Re: New team on the evening news

    Quantum

Would not be overjoyed. While he would welcome more heroes, he is wary of new heroes he knows nothing about. He would keep an eye on their actions. Should he encounter them in the field, he would make it very clear he was in charge of the situation. Should the new team go too far (ex. lots of collateral damage, injury or death to civilians, etc..), he would waste no time taking them down.

    Stone

As long as the newbies do good and stay out of his way, no problem

    Spectre

    Could care less

  8. Re: WWYCD: "Dear Superhero" (Warning: Ugly situation)

    Quantum

Team leader of a quasi-gov backed team of heroes would contact the government to arrange for science research mission to the area (possibly to research solar energy) and have the team assigned as security. Once there, the rebels and any military forces that tried to stop them would have a very very bad day.

    Stone

Packs some bags, gets plane tickets, arrives to the area, and begins helping the villagers building a defensive wall around the city. The first time the rebels show, he would crush every vehicle the rebels have, take their guns away from them, and drag them back into the walled city to the villagers. Its their country, they can decide the rebels fate. This process would continue until the rebels stopped or the villagers had enough guns to defend themselves.

    Spectre

Being the half dead protector of innocents is what this is scenario is all about. He would immediately head off to Africa to find this village. He would question the villagers and the boy to verify the story. If it is true, then rebels would face a very dark, cold, and terrifying death. Then the nation's leaders would face the same for allowing this to happen.

  9. Re: How do you design your champions game

It all depends on the PC's. If they are more into the mystery, then I will give them clues and let them try to solve the puzzle. However I have been in games where the PC's really did not care about solving puzzles. They just wanted to pound the bad guys, so in those cases I may take a book villain and add a homemade villain or two to go along with them.

  10. I have not seen this type of thread in awhile, so here we go. Post a character name, and see who can post a good workable character first. Winner gets to decide the name of the next character for the challenge.

The first name for the challenge:

    Nimbus

  11. Re: There's always one

Yeah, I think your guy was in my group for awhile. He made a character that had every special defense, and not just a few points in each. The character was a martial brick. Very annoying.

You don't have to make a villian aimed at the character. There are already are plenty of villians and organizations that can handle him. A Viper team w/some flash gernades for one. You just have to watch out for him using XP to suddenly have new defenses. I agree with Derek. You are most likely going to have to talk to him, or this type of character will keep appearing. The Sadist is a different issue all together.

  12. Re: The Super Darwin Awards

I apologize to those offended by my statement of Rolemaster. I personally prefer more cinematic games, with less in the way of complications that get in the way of a good game.

If it is any consolation, I found HARP (a simplified version of RM) to be a much better game, actually consolidating some of the modifiers (though the fact that virtually every action is either nearly impossible or horrifically modified still gets to me.)

No offense taken. We each have our likes and dislikes. :)

  13. Re: The Super Darwin Awards

Ah yes... Realistic combat. Why I love HERO but hate games like RoleMaster' date=' The Riddle of Steel, or GURPS (Though I like the setting in SpaceMaster Privateers)[/quote']

I like Rolemaster. I prefer it over DnD any day.

  14. Re: The Super Darwin Awards

I nominate myself for a GM Darwin award, for the death of a major NPC. Playing a Fantasy Hero game many years ago, I had a fairly nasty henchman to the Big Bad posturing on the deck of his enchanted warship while holding the Maguffin. A group of players fought their way over to him. The object had some impressive offensive capabilities , but they took a while to warn up, and it didn't provide any defenses.

One of the guys was playing a barbarian named Wulf. He had a 23 STR and a huge war axe. The group realized that they needed to disarm the bad guy before he started handing out red hot mystic death--can you see where this is going? Yes, Wulf's player targets the guys arms and cuts them both off. He then neatly snags the the object and dives overboard. At which point, all the other minions (and the GM) are sort of left with mouths agape.

I did not intend this to be a comical moment. In fact, I had spent several sessions trying to put the fear of God into the players about this guy.

I feel your pain. I ran a Rolemaster game a few years back. For some reason it seemde whenever I ever I put the group up against a tough villian (a Lich, a War Troll Shaman, high level mages), one of the group would score a critical on the villian very early in the combat & would get the dreaded "stunned and unable to parry". So my big bad villian would go down with a whimper. There is something just not right about a hobbit w/a short bow taking down a war troll in less than 30 seconds.

On the flipside whenever I sent low level flunkies after them, the PC's always got hurt. I used to threaten to send a 1st level orc armed w/a touch after them.

  15. Re: The Super Darwin Awards

    Werewolf game.

Me, I'm wolfed out holding a bad guy guard up off the ground by the neck.

GM - What does everyone else do?

PC2 (wereshark) - I bite the guards head off (yes, the one I was holding).

    Result - guard's head is gone....along w/almost half my character's arm. :(
