  1. Re: Vehicle DCV... I had no idea Yeah, maybe it was decided it made it too easy to hit called shots, or from ridiculous distances, etc. Not sure why it got changed. I'm sure there was a theory at work there, tho.
  2. Re: Vehicle DCV... I had no idea I'm not saying it's not important either. (Ah, a use for the double negative.) But it looks like we're going to have to part company on this one. And for what it's worth, after 30 years of playing Hero System games in all sorts of settings, I'm still waiting for a GM to giving me the "your Attack hits automatically" action.
  3. Re: Starting a new game The main thing for me is how easy it is to try out a bunch of builds for a power quickly. Also, it opens up the world of character packs where you get loads of pre-built stuff to play with. You can tweak it, or just run with it. Time is everything, why not save it when you can? It's not like HD is expensive... Clearly it works for a lot of people...
  4. Re: What rule don't people know? Nice...
  5. Re: Vehicle DCV... I had no idea Yes, that's always the bailout. It's a question of whether it's a weird mechanic or not. Are you saying you don't think it's odd looked at objectively? Or are you just really used to it?
  6. Re: Vehicle DCV... I had no idea Even if you're standing (or floating along) next to it?
  7. Re: Vehicle DCV... I had no idea Well, I agree that that makes sense, but where can I find that in the rules? It's weird that a carrier isn't easier to hit than a mooky panel van. Looks like stuff just stops at DCV 0.
  8. Re: Vehicle DCV... I had no idea Hrmmm. I'm not finding that in the rules anywhere. I looked up the Called Shoot/Placed Shot mechanics: 5ER pg. 415 On attacking with a placed shoot "... if he misses, the attack misses altogether." Now logic would dictate that it would be hard to miss our aircraft carrier above... but logic would also seem to dictate that this situation would be covered with an actual rule somewhere... But where?
  9. Re: Vehicle DCV... I had no idea There's an official way to handle scattering of a non-AOE attack? I'm all ears. Well, I'm probably less than 1% ears, but c'mon, it's a metaphor!
  10. Re: What rule don't people know? Got a new one... unless someone posted it above. DCV can only be halved once. I've had that argument many a time and oft.
  11. Hey Gang, I'm going through the Vehicles rules with ye olde fine tooth comb because I'm running a "super agent" game. I ran across the following: 5ER, pg. 472 "The vehicles Size and other modifiers affect its DCV, but it can never fall below 0 DCV." I'd highlighted this in my copy some time ago, but clearly I'd forgotten it. It strikes me that this has some amusing implications. Your crappy old panel truck and an aircraft carrier could both end up having a DCV of 0.

Re: Malloy Syndrome Cool idea, cool discussion... Got to get On Stranger Tides for my Pops. (He doesn't just read stuff like that, he consumes it.)

    WWI Battleship

Re: WWI Battleship Cool. Always very interested to see things like this. As fate would have it, I'm reading the Water Vehicles section of TUV right now. Quick design question: I notice the SPD 1, but a x8 NCM. Is there a reason you didn't go with a slightly higher Speed and lower NCM? Also, if it's SPD 1, does that mean the guns can only fire once per turn? I can't remember if a vehicle's speed governs it's weapon fire or not.
  15. Re: Latest info regarding Tunguska Are these the "fossil record is a lie put their by the devil" sort of co-religionists you're talking about?
  16. Re: Latest info regarding Tunguska Nice... had to look it up, but very cool. Literal translation from the original Maya: "tail of the Devil."
  17. Re: Latest info regarding Tunguska Might as well rename that character Megascale.
  18. Re: Starting a new game I told ya so!
  19. Re: Starting a new game I predict Thia will also recommend HeroDesigner
  20. Re: Starting a new game As for GMing... Keep it simple. (DC is a great place to start because it usually doesn't get into a lot of weird power builds.) Just wing it with a 3d6 roll if you can't remember a specific rule... you can look it up later. Take it easy on yourself. GMing can be a tricky thing to do well, but if you're having fun, your players will probably have fun.
  21. Re: Starting a new game Do yourself a favor and get the HeroDesigner program (available through the online store here on the site.) Takes all the sting out of the math... and allows you to build characters by trying out different approaches. There's not a ton of math during gameplay, at least that isn't, you know, just adding and subtracting!

  23. Re: Post-apocalyptic wargaming terrain Apparently the GM for the PA game I find myself in has a bunch of terrain, buildings, etc., and a garage in which to create quite a set-up, so I might end up posting some pics on the boards. I doubt it will be as out of control as the stuff above though!
