  1. So I'm playing a fantasy hero game and I have a thief with 175 point build. He has a strength of 10 and uses daggers to throw and stab, as well as a light longbow.

The group has come across a firbold in an underground lair. The pd of the firbolg is 15 meaning that even if the theif hits with any weapons or punches, he's still not going to do any damage. Am I doing this right?

So far the group has changed up tactics a bit and has the theif sneaking behind the firbolg and kneeling down so that the fighter can push him over, thereby lower the firbolgs dc for the rest of the party.

Any advice/suggestions on if this is correct is appreciated.

  2. Re: How do Hero System players/GM view DnD?

I would be happy to pick up and play just about any version of D&D. I don't expect the same things from it that I expect from HERO.

I think it's worth noting that a significant fraction of the posts on the Fantasy Hero forum are asking "How do I do [thing from D&D] in HERO?"

That's a very good point Chris. I have thought of how to do something in DnD in Hero mechanics without even realizing it.

Mudpyre8: I was hoping to make it down from Petoskey to be able to play in your Hero games, but real life has got in the way. Too bad for me, I was really looking forward to it.

  3. I need to draw up some dungeon maps and a world map and I am looking for any open source or free software, as I don't have the money perk. I am looking for something that is intuitive and basically lets me drag and drop, without having to deal with vectors and things that are over my head.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  4. I'm somewhat new to this system, having come from more d20 based systems. I am relishing the creative freedom that I have to do anything I want. I've been reading on the boards that a lot of people put down the DnD game, which is fine by me, however it got me to wondering what angle or viewpoint do Hero System gamers come from when viewing DnD. Is it just scoffed at for being a simple game? I am interested to hear what people think.

  5. Re: Kingdom character sheets

Huh. I may have to check the rules out at some point. For some reason it doesn't appeal to me very much in a fantasy context' date=' but it sounds like it could be an intriguing possibility for something like battling mega-corporations, governments, and organizations in a Cyberpunk/Shadowrun type setting.[/quote']

This is a great idea. I think it would work well with the given rules and would be a really neat idea to pull off. Keep up informed if you do anything with that!

  6. I've recently developed a Fantasy Hero game and have created some characters and then pitted them against several of the fantasy creatures from the sixth edition bestiary.

What I've noticed is that my characters have not had much difficulty with defeating many of the monsters that I would think would be a challenge for most beginning characters, such as skeletons and goblins.

It's quite possible that I'm not used to the build of the characters (using 175 points), thus not familiar with how strong the characters are in actual play.

What I am wondering is if there is some sort of guage to indicate a challenge for characters, sort of like encounters levels in some games that reflect an appropriate challenge for the characters?

    Thanks for any help.

  7. Re: Kingdom character sheets

I've found these rules to be a great way to develop large scale adventures and scenarios. The ability to infiltrate kingdoms with more than just an army is great. I have a whole campaign world mapped out that I'm working on. The Barony that I created is only one little piece of one kingdom on the map.

I would be happy to let you all know how things progress as the various territories and kingdoms vie with each other over land and resources.

  8. Re: Kingdom character sheets

Okay, I've spent some time buiding a small barony, using the information in chapter eight of the Ultimate Base book. If anyone has experience with this and could critique this, that would be great. Please bare in mind that I'm new to this game system.

    Generic Barony

    Strenght: 50, cost 50 (Foot soldier 30/Mounted Calvary 20)

    Con: 10, cost 20 (village 2, Baron's castle 5, village 1, village 1, village 1)

    Size: 6, cost 6

    Ego: 5, cost 5

    Defense: 2, cost 20

    speed:

    Espd: 12, cost 0

    Mspd: 12, cost 0

Pspd: 12, cost 0 (These three equate to 1 action per month)

    Rec: 10, cost 30 (Agriculture: Wheat 2, apples 4/ Trade: Lumber 6)

    Endurance: 20, cost 20

    Total points: 151 points

    Skills:

    Commerce (Trade): 14-, cost 9

    Diplomacy: 14-, cost 9

    Total points: 18

    Grand total points: 169

*This isn't a large Barony and is only a part of a larger kingdom.

  9. I'm creating a wizard for a fantasy setting and have given him the power skill magic, 13-.

I'm wondering when I should apply this skill? Everytime my wizard wants to use his magic? If that's so, would that mean he would have to make a magic skill roll, and then make an attack roll for a spell like fireball (blast)?

Thanks for any help in clarifying this for me. Game on!

  10. I'm reading through the Ultimate Bases book and am keen on creating a few kingdoms with the rules at the back of the book. Has anyone created a kingdom character sheet? If so, is it possible to post it online. I would like to see an example.

    Thanks and Game On!
