  1. Re: Review of Hidden Lands

Overall a pretty good review. I do have to disagree with this though

an individual Empyrean is considerably more powerful than the average hero, being built on at least 377 points (where the 5th Edition standard for beginning PCs is 350), of which 100 goes to custom powers and 18 goes to a Contact with fellow Empyreans (the average Contact costing 2 points...). So while the Empyrean race could be valuable NPCs for a game, or plot devices (it would really destabilize the world if such powerful beings pledged themselves to one Earth faction or another), they really aren't good as PCs unless the GM is running a Very High Power level game (like Galactic Champions, where one of the example heroes is an Empyrean).

Not true by a long shot. The basic Empyrean package is 277 points, then 100 for customization. If you were to make a slightly higher powered campaign of say 400 points there can be a wide variety of PC's of Empyrean stock or an all Empyrean campaign. 277 points pre-determined and 123 left over to make a custom character. That's far from being a Very High Power campaign.

  2. Re: Personal Super-Vehicles

I agree with Hermit, the cost is prohibative unless the character is based around the vehicle. I do have one PC in my campaign who is a gadgeteer and uses his personal vehicle all the time until the villains literaly carve him out of it. It's sort of an enclosed air bike and he paid 45 character points for it so it's an integral part of his character concept.

  3. Re: Suggestion for a book

If he's smart, Merry Andrew is nowhere near Steve Long. No love lost there. ;)

Sorry, Guzalot, but CLOWN isn't making an official comeback as long as Steve is Line Developer. Just have to accept it. :(

I know. It's just so tragic. Fortunately I have a copy of Classic Organizations and will do my own conversions when I'm ready to use them. In that vein though, what is the official stance on Sanctuary? Anyone know?

  4. Re: Does Seeker still suck?

    Not this again.

Look at the beak. It is sharp and pointy like the beak of a... HAWK. I duckbill is dull and rounded. It is not a duckbill.

But nevertheless still manages to look incredibly stupid. It's kind of hard to project fear and awe when you look like a goth Big Bird.

  5. Re: Characters of "Substance"

I thought that with lower electrical resistance' date=' the charge would move through you depositing less energy, thus providing you with protection -- like damage reduction. Am I wrong?[/quote']

I'll confess I do not know, I'm a computer tech not an electrician. I may have to revise the character concept somewhat if that's true.

  6. Re: Characters of "Substance"

How about a character made of mercury?

LOL, I just submitted one to Kirby for his PBEM. Since mercury is very low friction he can "skate" at high speed. Plus, of course, he's heavy and malleable. Kind of a cross between Quicksilver and Reed Richards. Of course, mercury is a natural conductor so he's vulnerable to electrical attacks.

  7. Re: Play By e-Mail: Submissions for Millennium City

Really' date=' some gamer needs to create teleportation devices so we can have more face to face games.[/quote']

That's the truth. The game that I run is lucky to meet once a month these days because of scheduling conflicts. There are some seriously good gamers on this site that I would love to share a gaming table with but alas, distance separates us...

  8. Re: Why should I play HERO?

    Ian,

I would seriously suggest you pick up Sidekick first, It is only $10 (american). It is the core core rules of the game, and is ALOT easier to understand than 5th edition Revised. Once you master Sidekick pick up Revised, skim through it and start adding elements of revised into your game.

Most of what Revised adds from sidekick are extra combat manuvers, a few new abilities for character gen, various optional rules, etc...

You'll want it down the road, but while getting started I wish I had something like sidekick (I started in 4th edition, we are now on 5th revised).

Just my opinion, but of course I am always right =)

Assuming you can actualy find a copy of Sidekick this is good advice.

  9. Re: Could your Champions character beat...

    HOLY BE-JEEZUS!!!

    Man... talk about stat inflation.

I can't even conceive of playing with those kind of stats. What? Are your thugs all 29 DEX?

    CRAZY I say! :P

It's all a matter of benchmarks. If the villains in his campaign are a credible threat to defeat the PC's then so what? Obviously the supers in Zornwils world are truly SUPER, making normals look pale by comparison. As long as the game isn't a cake-walk for the PC's I say "so what?"

  10. Re: Post your most abusive munchkin character here

this one is stolen from my GM.

anyone with Physical Lim. So Massive He Causes the Universe to Implode (total very frequent 25pts).

Sneak that by a GM and BAAAM!! end of game as soon as you start

That's funny, but not what I'm looking for. Any kind of Phys Lim: His Very Existence causes The Universe To End does that. I'm looking for abusive power constructs.

  11. This comment was made in another thread:

"We've probably all made cheesey characters before in an attempt to min/max the game mechanics as opposed to character creation (I know I have)".

So true. There are some seriously creative (and demented) minds on these boards. For sh*ts and grins, post your most abusive rules-raping munchkin based on 350pts here. Are you the munchkin king?

  12. Re: Long winded request for assistance

No offense, but these examples and others you gave greatly appear that you're playing on the same munchkin level as the character whom this thread is about. Coupled with your acknowledgement that you've been playing about a year, it doesn't appear you're experienced enough to qualify an answer here. The examples you've listed would probably be nixed by 90% of the GMs on this board.

We've probably all made cheesey characters before in an attempt to min/max the game mechanics as opposed to character creation (I know I have); however, the guidelines on page 15 of FREd are clearly being broken and abused and giving examples of your characters that would do the same aren't helping find a solution.

My suggestion (take it, leave it, or adjust it) is to step back for a bit and reflect on what it is you're wanting to contribute to this thread.

Exactly. When your campaign devolves into who can out-munchkin who it's pretty much over as far as I'm concerned.

  13. Re: Big Question: How did superpowers come about in your campaign?

In my campaign superbeings have been around for thousands of years (the Red Sea didn't part itself you know, Moses was a powerful mutant). As the human genome has evolved however superpowers have become more and more prevalant. By the late 19th century extraordinary humans were more common than ever and it seems that mankind had made an evolutionary leap. Costumed superheroes followed soon after and the Age Of Heroes was born.

  14. Re: Champions Universe Combined Timeline

Not that impressive. Well over half is copied directly from the Champions Universe book.

Sure, but he took the time to cram it all together and mesh three CU's into one coherent timeline. Too bad I can't use it because my own CU has some significant differences.
