Re: What Have You Watched Recently?
I've been watching some Japanese dramas, without English subtitles, as part of teaching myself Japanese. Unfortunately, I can't currently understand much - it's more about tuning my ear to the language at this point.
One I'm enjoying is Jin, which is a bit like Life on Mars, if the lead character were a brain surgeon instead of a cop, and he ends up in feudal Japan instead of 70's Britain.

Re: Naming the first superhero
I can see him being named by the press a "modern-day Samson", "a modern-day Hercules", and so on... Depends exactly when and where he appears... (He? Does it have to be a he?)

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?
Currently watching Stephen Hawking's Universe. Just getting to the bit where he explains all the things in the Universe that want to kill us.

Re: "Normals" gaining superpowers: how would they change in terms of mentality?
The one wrinkle with those propositions' date=' is that, [b']if superpowers exist, they are likely "illogical" and "impossible" *by our reckoning[/b]* (which would break oh so many assumptions we currently hold about reality)...That's something I've always wanted to play with. If Superman suddenly starts being seen flying around, scientists are going to have to change some basic assumptions, and then they're going to start thinking, "If he can fly like that, alien though he is, that means the laws of physics allow for that sort of thing. I wonder..."

Re: Which older modules are worth running?
I had a lot of fun with the first Champions Presents adventure pack.

Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat
I'm having a tough time thinking of TV shows that wouldn't be improved with Buffy the Vampire Slayer character crossovers...
NT: TV Shows that could be improved with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles character crossovers.

Re: KAs vs CvK
Don't forget that you can kill, or be killed, with normal attacks. It's just harder.- Opportunities for roleplaying denial, guilt, and the other stages of grief
- Negative Reputation and press, including loss of cooperation with the cops and prosecutors
- Legal consequences, of which there are many
- Conflicts with other team members
5. Become GrimDark and '90's. May be drawn by Rob Liefeld. Nobody wants that.
- Opportunities for roleplaying denial, guilt, and the other stages of grief

Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat
NT: Subtle signs that the guy installing cable on your new flat-screen TV is out of his mind.
The new flat-screen TV is a piece of cardboard with a crude picture of a house with stick-figures standing next to it. You're not sure that's paint.
He is not wearing a Cable Guy uniform. He is wearing a Cable Guy skin.
He appears to be taking orders from your goldfish. And looking at you strangely. And asking you where you keep your kitchen knives.

Re: KAs vs CvK
I specifically made exactly that kind of character - a "Green Arrow" style gadget archer who had a "bodkin" RKA slot in his multipower, and a fairly strict CvK (can't remember if it was 15 or 20 points). The bodkin was specifically for foci, entangles, robots and the like.

Re: The criminal level list
#2 could be "Soldier". I doubt anyone's going to be calling themselves "mook" or "flunky"

Re: What do journeyman wizards do for a living?
In Ars Magica, mages are rare, and tend to stay away from civilisation, finding isolated Magic Auras to practice their craft in. Journeyman wizards get to do all the odd jobs the older Magi don't feel like doing, like harvesting the faerie mushrooms for their magical powers, investigating those rumours of ghosts in the village, making copies of spells and magical texts, and going to the Tribunals to do all that messy political stuff.

Re: Fantasy Art Thread
Seriously awsome And my character did a bit of dragon-riding in much the same way recently... I may use this image as a visual aid

Re: Waking up with super powers
I've often thought I'd hate to suddenly end up with Superman's powers. Can you imagine the responsibility? How could you not try and save everybody? How could you justify sleep, let alone leisure time? But on the other hand, doing that could irrevocably change the world in unpredictable ways. You could end up destroying people's capacity to solve their own problems - why should they bother when SuperMe will just fly in and fix it?
And how long before I just decide the stupid humans clearly can't look after the planet by themselves, and the logical thing to do is to just take over?
Now, Spider-man's powers I could handle. Enough to help people, not enough that I can't justify taking time off to recharge my batteries. Plus, I can waltz into Sam Raimi's office and say, "So, about Spider-man 4..."

Re: Cool Guns for your Games
I do. I think it's the Shadowrun Street Samurai's Weapons Catalogue (or similar). There was a GPHMG on sale and someone chipped in with "I always thought the purpose of a heavy machine gun was faily well-defined"Ah, yes, thanks

Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #5: Body-Affecting Powers
I'm curious about how buying things that start off very big or very small will work...

Re: Cool Guns for your Games
The MG42 basically created a new class of weapon, the general purpose machine gun, GPMG or jimpy. I think he is just saying all the current GPMGs can trace their family tree back to the MG42.I can't recall where I heard this, but: "I always thought the purpose of a machine gun was fairly well defined..."
