  1. Thanks for inquiring about the book with your local retailer. We appreciate it. In regards to your being told that it's not available, I will be frank and say that someone is being lied to, possibly because they don't want to "bother" ordering and stocking the book. Either the retailer is lying to you, the distributor rep is lying to the retailer, or the buyer is lying to the sales rep. But nobody in that little chain seems to have the facts, despite my best efforts to see that they do. I assure you that we are not telling the distributors or retailers that the book is unavailable. That would be just silly. If your retailer would like to get announcements and product info directly from us, they can contact us and we'll add them to our list. Or, if I find out which distributor they use I can rattle their cage. In the meantime, please buy the book from us.
  2. The Dragon's Gate has been solicited to several UK distributors (you can see a list of UK distributors that we solicit to at http://eureka.goldrushgames.com/distributors.html ). The books are available, though they are not selling as briskly as we'd have liked through distribution. You're better off, at this point, buying your copy direct. You'll get it much more quickly than ordering it from a UK store and waiting for their distributor to order it and then wait for their shipment to arrive and be posted off to the store. Ordering direct form us means it's posted directly to you.
  3. Just FYI, there are a number of distributors that we market our products to, including those in Canada. You (and your retailer) can find the list here: http://eureka.goldrushgames.com/distributors.html You can even print out the list and give it to your retailer so that he/she knows which Canadian distributors we directly solicit to.
  4. There was (claimed) demand for the print version of the book among Hero fandom (and more specifically among San Angelo fans). PDF or no, the print version of the book I was certain would have been snapped up by a number of folks. In terms of its "newness," we did add M&M Superlink and Action! System stats to the book, making it a "new sourcebook" for fans of Mutants & Mastermind, most of whom seem to have never heard of San Angelo (and understandably so). In regards to stores having a hard time getting the book... either those stores are misleading you or their distributor is not doing its job. Our books are very much available to every distributor out there. All they have to do is fax or e-mail a purchase order to us and voila! They get the books shipped. If a retail store does not have our books in stock I assure you that that is not our doing. Regardless, I have said it before and it bears repeating: If you cannot find a GRG book that you want, then buy it from us! I promise you that we will appreciate every penny you spend on our books and it will help us (financially) more than a sale of the same book through distribution channels. The books are available, I promise. All you have to do is visit our online store to see what all is available.
  5. Aha! In that case, "Of course it was."
  6. Just a reminder that The Dragon's Gate is now available. I've seen several reviews of the book here on the Hero Boards (thanks, gang!). Distribution sales have been much, much lower than we'd anticipated so many of you have probably not even seen it in stores (those poor retailers who didn't order it are passing up a bood thing; what a shame). But rest assured it does exist and you can buy it now!
  7. There's nothing to be concerned about. SACoH 1 has HERO System stats. SACoH 1.5 has M&M/Action! stats. SACoH 2.0 will have all three, as will all of the 2nd edition supplements. This is the plan. There's plenty of consistency in the planning.
  8. Whoops. The link to the PDF goes to the Dragon's Gate preview, which is only 13 pages long and (more importantly) not the SACoH 1.5 preview. Click here for the SACoH 1.5 preview. Hooyah!
  9. The Dragon's Gate will be shipping in about a week! We are extremely excited about this book, being our first new San Angelo setting release in several years. The quality and detail is awesome and it surely reaches - if not exceeds - the bar set by previous San Angelo products. Unfortunately, distribution pre-order sales of the book have been lower than expected. It looks as though many retailers will not have The Dragon's Gate in stock before Christmas. But rest assured you can still get a copy of this book before the holiday! Contact your retailer today, and if they have not or will not order The Dragon's Gate for you, then by all means buy it from us today! If you order this week, we will ship your order out within 24 hours of the books arriving from the printer and you'll be guaranteed to have your copy well before Christmas!
  10. Yeah, I agree that would have been cool.
  11. My thanks to everyone who responded. It was nigh overwhelming. We have commitments for reviews to be written and submitted to quite a number of venues (publications and web sites). You can check out the list below. Those marked with bold text indicate venues we are no longer sending pre-release review copies for. For the others on the list, requests for a copy of the pre-release PDF will be considered, but the priority will be for reviewers submitting to new venues. If you would like to review a pre-release PDF of The Dragon's Gate and will submit the review to a venue not listed below, please contact us asap. 12. I just watched the program tonight. Very cool! There wasn't enough footage of the practitioners using weapons, IMO, but hey. Good show over all.
  13. Gold Rush Games is looking for talented writers and honest reviewers to take a look at our soon-to-be-released book, The Dragon's Gate: San Angelo's Chinatown. "But how can someone review the book if it's not out yet," you ask? Simple. We will send you a PDF version of the book for you to read through and critique, with the agreement that you will not distribute the file to anyone else and that you will destroy (delete, remove, wipe, erase, etc.) the file when your review is written. In addition, we will be happy to send you a copy of the printed book for the asking. Thanks to digital print-on-demand technology, we have a small batch of pre-release copies of the book already on the way, which are earmarked as author/artist comps and review copies. Most of these are already designated for specific recipients, but we will ship all reviewers one copy, as well, just for the asking. "What if I tear the book apart in the review," you ask? No matter. We want honest reviews of the book. Go ahead. We can take it. Besides, if you don't like the book, the odds are you won't want a printed copy any way. "Can I get more than one copy, say for use as a gift?" Sure! As long as you buy it from your local retailer. You see, the whole reason we want reviews of the book is for increased exposure, because in some marketing class I once hear that increased exposure can lead to increased sales. So if you want an opportunity to review the book BEFORE it's released, drop us a line at mark@goldrushgames.com and include the following: 1. Put "Lemme review The Dragon's Gate!" in the subject line. 2. Tell us your full name. 3. Tell us which pub/site you will submit/post your review to. 4. Promise to indicate that the review is of a pre-release version. 5. Promise to write an honest review. 6. Promise not to distribute the PDF and to delete it after you've written your review. The rules are simple, but rest assured that if someone cannot follow all of the above rules (including anyone who contacts us without having read this message fully) will be summarily rejected. (I mean, if you can't follow the simple rules above then it's logical to assume you're not very serious about writing a quality review of our book.) We will select a limited number of people to receive the PDF of the book. When someone is selected we will contact them with a unique link to download the file. That's it. So who wants to review our book?
  14. You bet. The text has been cleaned up a bit, the HERO System stats have been updated to conform with 5th Edition rules and guidelines, the Chinatown map is in the book, and we've added stats for both M&M Superlink and Action! System. Plus (and perhaps more importantly) it's a printed book that you can hold in your hands.
  15. I am holding in my hot little hands an advance proof copy of The Dragon's Gate: San Angelo's Chinatown, and it is a beautiful book! I think almost every HERO System/Champions, M&M Superlink and Action! System fan is going to want this book! If you aren't one of the 3,600+ superhero and modern setting RPG fans who have already downloaded the free 13-page PDF preview of the book, be sure to download it today and get a taste of The Dragon's Gate! Watch for The Dragon's Gate: San Angelo's Chinatown, shipping in just two weeks! And if your store hasn't ordered a copy yet, tell them you want this book! It's the only way that they know there is a demand for it. Or you can order a copy direct from GRG. Preorder the book today and your copy will ship as soon as we get them in! It's a steal at just $25.00!
  16. Re: San Angelo If you still have the SACoH preview pdf I invite you to read the boxed text on page 11 (the 11th pageof the preview), titled "The Real San Angelo." It explains that the San Angelo of the book is not the same thing as the city in Texas. I can understand how someone might think that they are the same at a cursory look but rest assured, San Angelo: The City of Heroes is not located in Texas. It's ostensibly located on the West Coast. Just FYI.
  17. Re: Re: San Angelo - Your input If you write a 20,000 word sourcebook for that, I'll pay you for it and publish it!
  18. Re: Re: San Angelo - Your input You've just described San Angelo, the City of Heroes. A blend of fact and fiction. Excellent point. FWIW, I'd love to publish some (slightly less detailed) city sourcebooks for major cities in other countries. Toronto, London, Bohn, Sidney, Tokyo and others (Baghdad?) would make great additions to the SACoH line, IMO. So, do we have any authors for these books lurking out there? Preferably someone who lives in or near the city in question...
  19. Fear not. No other books will be required reading for folks who buy San Angelo 2nd Edition. SACoH 2E will be complete and usable all by its lonesome. Of course, SACoH 1.5 will almost certainly contain little bits and references that people familiar with the original edition of SACoH will pick up on that newcomers to San Angelo won't (such as reference to the "previous Mayor," Mayor Martinez.). No marketing ploys here with SACoH 1.5 except a desire to bring San Angelo to the attention of a lot more superhero RPG fans.
  20. There are two character write-ups for HERO System in the Dragon's Gate preview PDF with backgrounds, plus much crunchy sample material from the book. Download the sample now and be rewarded with a tantalizing glimpse of The Dragon's Gate: San Angelo's Chinatown and get 2 HERO System NPCs for use in your game. 2,900 downloads to date. Don't miss the boat! The Dragon's Gate hits stores next month!
  21. We've had more than 2,700 downloads of the free Dragon's Gate preview PDF! Thanks to all of the awesome Hero fans who have downoaded the file to check out our newest Champions/San Angelo supplement. And to those who haven't downloaded the Dragon's Gate preview PDF yet... Hop to it! You don't want to miss this. It's got the table of contents, several sample pages from the timeline and "Martial Arts World" sections, plus character write-ups you can use right now! Click here to download the file!
  22. We used handouts like this for our San Angelo game. Pat (Sweeney) seemed to really enjoy creating them and tried to do one for us for every session. They were very cool and helped maintain the "feel" of San Angelo in our games.
  23. Update Greetings, super fans! I'm pleased to announce that there have been more than 2,300 downloads of the Dragon's Gate preview PDF, which includes stats for HERO System (5th Ed), M&M Superlink and Action! System. That's a very good number and it continues to grow, which makes me happy as pie. Lots of Chinatown goodness is contained in the PDF, including the table of contents (so you can see what is contained in the book), a portion of the Chinatown timeline and history, and a portion of the "Martial Arts World" chapter including several character descriptions, with stats for all three aforementioned game systems (plus extra NPC stats for M&M Superlink and Action! System)! What I'd like to know is, if you have downloaded and (presumably) had a chance to read through the preview, what are your thoughts? Any comments about The Dragon's Gate preview are very much welcomed and appreciated. If you haven't downloaded the Dragon's Gate preview PDF, download it today! You will find the link at http://www.goldrushgames.com/dgsac.html
  24. We've now surpasssed 2,000 downloads of The Dragon's Gate preview PDF! Thanks to all of the HERO System fans who have been spreading the word and for checking out the preview!
