1. Re: The Silver Age - a new Guardians' campaign

I've got no problem working within the restrictions' date=' really. I was just wondering about them. Most PBEMs aren't that specific. Only possible reason I can see for it is maybe to enforce the genre, and if so I can dig it. But it struck me as a bit odd.[/quote']

I believe that's the core of it--enforcing the genre and giving guidance to players.

2. A two-part question:

1. Can a character who is in a Darkness field vs. Mental Sense or who is surrounded by an Illusion that affecte the Mental Sense avoid being locked onto by Mind Scan?
2. If the answer to question 1 is yes, then what about a character who has already been "locked" with Mind Scan? Can he break out automatically by putting such a Darkness field or Illusion on himself(assuming that the mentalist cannot sense him in a different fashion)?

Thanks.

5. Re: Global Guardians Campaign Opening (PBEM)

We have received several submissions for the Global Guardians 1, 2, 3, and 4 campaigns. As a reminder, the deadline for submissions is Friday, January 13, 2006, at 11:59 U.S. EST. Please send the characters to robcrogers3@gmail.com

First, just as a point of clarification, in addition to the current PCs displayed on those campaign pages, two slots have been reserved for players from the Global Guardians 4 campaign that folded. The GMs have not yet determined which campaigns these PCs will end up in, but will be in the final rosters. These PCs are:

• Spectrum (Mark Ayen)
• Twilight (Kristopher Gruner)

That still leaves a total of 9 slots (including slots designated for new Guardsman and Gunmetal PCs).

We have received the following submisssions:

• Andar (Seth Robbins)
• Black Diamond (Robin Kaspar)
• Cybertron (Seth Robbins)
• Doctor Chiropterus (Dave Mattingly)
• Great Eagle (Michael Kirkley)
• Guardsman II, Zootlo Ti!max (Neil Ma)
• Harbinger (Matthew Northrop)
• Jaguar Pequeno (Michael Kirkley)
• Pulse (Seth Robbins)
• Sentidos Magia (KL Wilson)
• Snake Eater (Seth Robbins)

Also, this seems to be a good place to address a few items and questions that have come up with various submissions:

• 350 base points plus 150 points in Disadvantages means that these are 500-point characters. If you have an established 350-point character who you want reviewed as is, we can take that into consideration, but you'll eventually need to spend those 150 points and (if the PC already exists in the GGU) incorporate an explanation for the power increase.
• Each player is only allowed to have one PC in the Global Guardians teams. This means that existing Global Guardians players may not submit PCs at this time and that if you submit multiple characters, a maximum of one will be accepted.
• We are getting a fairly high percentage of American PC submissions. Keep in mind that these are international teams. If you're looking for ideas, take a look at existing PCs and choose underrepresented areas.
• Remember to keep the JLA/Avengers model in mind. The most common reason we will probably have for not selecting a character is "this PC is not epic enough."

For submission guidelines, see the campaign pages:

6. Re: Global Guardians Campaign Opening (PBEM)

vis-a-vis nationality' date=' how would you characterize an alien being who has adopted a country other than America as its home?[/quote']

As an alien being who adopted another country as its home. :)

That certainly would seem to be fine--interesting, in fact, since typically you see backgrounds of aliens who land in New York, Los Angeles, Cape Canaveral, Roswell, or the Nevada desert, but pretty much no place else. Bring it on.

7. Re: Global Guardians Campaign Opening (PBEM)

I've just joined another PBEM game' date=' so it's too bad that these games came up when they did. Until I see how much time the other game is going to take, I want to hold off adding any others.[/quote']

I think you might find that PBEM games move pretty slowly. Once you've created your PC, keeping up with two games isn't really all that difficult. Of course, this varies from game to game and GM to GM.

Is it possible to lurk on your mailing list? I'd like to check out the GG. Your campaigns sound like great fun, especially the Hero City one. I think I tried to lurk once before but I got no response from the list server.

If it is possible, which list and how should I sign up?

I'm glad to hear of your interest in the Hero City campaign, which I run and which is about to start back up after a hiatus. We have a full boat of PCs right now, but I welcome lurkers. Right now, I don't think that the subscription e-mails are working correctly, since our server crash. But you can e-mail jbutler@globalguardians.com and ask to be subscribed. If you're interested in participating in games there, you should request to be subscribed to the Admin list, too, and possibly the Chat list.

8. Re: Global Guardians Campaign Opening (PBEM)

I saw this over on the Non-Gaming Discussions, in a thread entitled "Global Guardians - HELP!"

This has me just a bit confused, since the initial message said we need to send characters to Rob C Rogers, and Rob C Rogers is the guy saying we need to email Jack Butler, but I figure I'll send my submission to both of them. Cover all the bases.

Jack is the one who can get you subscribed to the mailing lists. I'm the one who is accepting the character submissions. You can e-mail them to me at RobCRogers3 "at" gmail.com.

Hope this clears things up.

9. Re: Enemies of San Angelo

WOW!! I am pleased to see these responses. Always good to hear about folks using the SA line. I've seen a lot of talk about the city book and Enemies. How many of you are using the Denizens book? What were your impressions of it?

I loved Enemies of San Angelo, particularly Anarchy, but was very disappointed in Denizens. The art was very subpar, from the cover on down. A number of the characters didn't have pictures (this is a comic book genre--every character should have a picture), and for those that did, the pictures often didn't match the descriptions. And many of the NPCs were written without a clear idea of what was important to a GM. Random, distracting details about characters were added in to "flesh" them out, but were often boring, not creating plot hooks, just filling space. I was hoping for something along the lines of Normals Unbound, but it was much less useful to me. As an example, I've used about half the NPCs in Normals Unbound over time. I think I've used one NPC from Denizens, and made substantial changes to him.

By the way, the NPCs written for Enemies were one of the weaker parts of that otherwise strong book. It seemed like a good idea in concept, but the relationships were often peripheral, the backgrounds weren't always integrated well, and none of them had pictures.

10. Re: Golden Age - looking for a co-GM

Hi,

I am currently GMing a Golden Age campaign in the Global Guardians Universe (http://www.globalguardians.com/campaigns/goldenage.php). Because of RL reasons, my co-GM has had to stop GMing. I would like to continue to work on this campaign, but would like to have a co-GM to switch off with (roughly half the year).

If you are interested, I have some of the past posts summarized. Please respond on this thread or send a PM to home_n@hotmail.com

Thanks,

Neil

It's a great campaign and Neil's great to work with. I highly recommend it.

11. Re: Superhero Images

This is Whiteraven. The Mute Egoist I mentioned earlier.

Wow. The zip format makes us jump through a couple of extra hoops to view this, but it's worth it. What a terrific picture.

12. Re: Duke (art and characters)

Its been awhile and I should have a new picture to post up here soon. I did do 3 rush illustrations for the Digital Hero 33 though that is now going to be a skip month.

Why am I posting?

Last night I started making a map for my next adventure for my online champions game. Its only a fraction complete but I thought I would make it available for anyone else that may be interested in using it. I know that there are never enough maps.

Anyway I put up a jpg version of it here for any takers.

http://www.mayhemunited.com/champions/maps/city1.jpg

Enjoy

Hey, that's terrific! Do you use a program to create any of the map? If so, which one?

13. Re: Mung the Dwarven Monk

I still get this error:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /2005/08/character-of-week-mung.html on this server.

Here's the explanation. The site should be good to go again. Anyone who drops by, be sure to let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Over the weekend, some of the BlogSpot servers went down temporarily,

causing them to return "403 Forbidden" errors for some images and blogs.

These servers should now be up and functioning properly again. If you

continue to get errors, please try clearing your browser's cache and

cookies, and then viewing the blog again. We apologize for the

inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Blogger Support

14. Re: Mung the Dwarven Monk

The link is bad' date='[/quote']

I've noticed some trouble with the site, but please try again or hit refresh or something. It seems to be working again.

but on the subject of Dwarven Monks, Killer Shrike once threw a Dwarven hand to hand fighter at us called Kantabbot who was monk like in his abilities, and he was awesome. Later on Shrike told me he named him that as a combination inside joke \ homage to Tank Abbot, the UFC fighter from back in the day.

In fact, we've seen a lot of bareknuckled Dwarven brawlers of various sorts over the years. Seems to be one of Shrike's standard shticks.

Sounds like fun.

15. I posted one of my favorite Fantasy Hero characters, Mung, on my web log a while back, and thought some fellow Hero board visitors might want to take a gander.

Here's the URL: http://robcrogers.blogspot.com/2005/08/character-of-week-mung.html

And here's an excerpt from his background to whet your appetites...

"Gray-skinned Tarmyk Firebristle was reputed to be the most taciturn and stoic of Khazak minstrels, if not the most skilled, yet even he was known to lift a calloused hand to his leathery cheek and brush away an unashamed tear when he related the tale of the fall of the Harralind Mines. The story sat heavy on Dwarven hearts, and was generally reserved for the gravest of occasions—funerals, visits of states, times of war, and nights when the listeners were all already very, very drunk."

16. Re: Door Number 6 Character of the Week

Here's an excerpt from La Cucaracha's background: "She was working on the fourth story of the hotel when the earthquake hit Acapulco. Many buildings withstood the damage, but the poorly constructed hotel collapsed. Inez fell nearly twenty feet as the floor beneath her crumbled, then found herself pinned against a reinforced support beam while rubble and debris fell around her. With several ribs crushed and a lung punctured, she stared around at the ruin. She saw a bed on its side; a fat man with a bathroom mirror protruding from his pale, white back; and a large suitcase burst open, colorful vacation clothing pluming out like a bouquet. She noticed the wall beside her trembling and dozens of cockroaches scuttling out through the wallpaper. Inez had never read about irony, but she understood it, and, certain that she was going to die, she found a certain wry amusement in the fact that the cockroaches she so often squashed as part of her cleaning were going to escape the building while she did not."

17. Re: Anyone combine Champs with Call of Cuthulu?

I'm almost tempted to buy other supplements from the same author. But I think I'll wait until someone else in the group does just to see if he's consistent or not.

He's really good. I've enjoyed reading the Alien Wars supplement even though I don't play Star Hero and have no intention of doing so anytime soon. :)

18. Re: Supervillain Images

Oni

Wow! That's great! It's terrific to see you back, Mangog! I've missed seeing your artwork. I don't think I'd seen a post from you in a year or so and am very glad to see you back here again.

19. Re: Superhero Images

>beep< >beep< >beep<

This is Decibel. The picture was drawn and inked sometime in the mid to late 80's. He was another in a long list of "hardly got to play" characters that breezed by in my Champions campaign. I've never liked the costume design, but it was all I could come up with. I did have a friend comment once that the costume was very "DC-ish." Whatever that means.

Enjoy.

Nice. This reminds me for some reason of the image of Wee Willie from the Great Supervillain Contest.
