  1. If a charcter buys Speed with a Limitation that limits how it can be used (not when), how do I intergrate it into the character's regular Speed & Phases?

I.e., AttackMan has a 23 DEX and 5 SPD normally. He also has +3 SPD - Only To Make Attacks(-?). How do I determine which of his 8 Phases are to be regular ones, and which are to be ones where he can only attack, not move?

    SPD 3: 4, 8, 12

    +

    SPD 5: 3, 5, 8, 10, 12

    =

    SPD 8: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12 (But which are which?)

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Re: Really cool automatic reloads...

Basically' date=' I buy 0 END for the guns instead of charges (to represent that he never runs out of ammo/always has enough reloads). This takes care of reloading time. Can I put the 0 END part of the Power into a seperate focus (OIF perhaps)? I'm not sure how to do this since the gun's already an OAF.[/quote']

Just buy the Zero END as a Naked Advantage, and apply the OIF "Autoreloader" to it.

The only problem I can see with this (other than figuring out the foci) is that the guns aren't Personal Foci' date=' so if one is taken, it should have some rounds left in it. Could I hand wave this?[/quote']

Buy the Gun with a single "clip" of, say 8 charges. As long as you have the functional Autoreloader, these charges don't get used -- the Zero END "covers" for them. When the Gun gets stolen, it has 8 bullets in it. When you get it back (even empty), the Autoreloader kicks in again letting you fire at will. If the Autoreloader is removed or damaged, the Gun only has it's 8 bullets. Say that part of the Autoreloader's F/X is that the bullets in it would take too long to extract during a combat.

  3. Re: Updated Website!!!

A great karmic turn for me, a man named David Boddie wanted to redesign my website. He has done a fantastic job. Many of the pieces that DT listed are there under "commissions" or "doodles". So, check it out!

    http://www.stornc.rpggallery.com/

Great site, Storn! But I should mention that when I click on a thumbnail to view the larger picture, I get a Java Runtime Error in line 13. A new window with the art still opens, but for it's title is the URL. The second time I click on the same thumbnail (sometimes it takes 3 tries), it opens without an error, and the window's title is the same as the thunbnail's caption.

Just thought I should pass this along to you, so David can clean it up. :)

EDIT: Oops. I guess I should have read all the new posts before replying. That way I would have seen David's post, and could then have sent this in a PM to him.

  4. Re: Global Guardians - Champs by email (review)

What would change is the text spaghetti behind the pretty colors that make it look the way it does. Most importantly' date=' there would be whole lot less of it.[/quote']

Becuase FrontPage does a very poor job of "cleaning up" after itself, I have grown to loathe FrontPage. While the links need to be reconnected, the html coding on the Masterlists is what I've done so far. I made no changes that affected the way the pages look, but have cleaned up the code considerably (thus shortening it). If using something else (like CSS, which, IIRC, are becoming the "norm" in html/xml) would reduce it further, then I'm willing to learn. :)

Heck' date=' when I get home, I'll redo the Achilles sheet with HTML and CSS and send it to you, so you can see how it works for you.[/quote']

Send it to me, also. :)

  5. Re: Global Guardians - Champs by email (review)

I had seen a cool sci-fi offering and had tried to make a character cut from the same cloth. As had a dozen others at exactly the same time!

The thing to understand is that the GGU is supposed to be world wide, that is there should be some variety. But every time a new movie (Spider-Man, Daredevil, Hulk) comes out there are a dozen submissions for _that_ character.

IIRC, there were at least 20 different Teleporting Martial Artists being worked on by various people -- just after X2 came out. ;)

  6. Re: Storn Art from idea to full picture

One more thing, Storn. I want to use this picture for a PBEM site that has some of it's own "legal wording" to it. I would like to make sure that your legal requirements and this site's don't conflict before the final O.K. (and payment).

Should I post a link, copy and paste it here, or something else?

  7. Re: Storn Art from idea to full picture

Verbose and nit-picky don't begin to describe it. You should see some of Steve's character sheets.

Being precisely detailed is not the same thing as being nit-picky. And *I'm* not the one that came up with the following construct (particulars may vary):

    Dispel Knockback Resistance 10D6, Does Knockback(+1/4), Double Knockback(+3/4). ;)

  8. Re: Storn Art from idea to full picture

On #2... yeah' date=' I'm afraid you really only get one shot at describing these.[/quote']Then I won't worry about giving too much information up front -- I can be fairly verbose when describing a character. I didn't want to come across as nit-picky (even though I may be :D ).
#3: I do get requests to do supers in media other than digital... but it is my preference FOR supers. For fantasy' date=' I like coloring over pencil and having a bit of the line and sketchiness show thru. That *feels* more fantasy to me than inked work, digitally colored.[/quote']Okay. So a Comic-Book Supers look = Inked, digitally colored. :)
#4: yes. Having previous pics is a HUGE help' date=' especially if you tell me succinctly what you like and don't like about the pic. Maybe the pose is off, but you love the costume. If I know that, I won't change the costume on ya.[/quote']Okay, I'll include all 3 pics along with a verbose description. Are you sure your mailbox can handle it? ;)New Questions:#7: I am not a costume designer, so I might overlook something, or pick something that looks bad (like the patters or colors used). Would posting the description & previous pictures for feedback before the actual commission be worthwhile? NOTE: One of the pictures was made with a tracing of another comic-book character's form, thus I am unsure of the technical legality when posting that pic.#8: If I am unsure of how a piece of equipment should be described (or I just have a vague idea of how it looks), should I just pile on some adjectives and a few "but not like this or that..." statements?#9: If I see another picture you did and I like something about it, I should add that info to the description, right? I think I can pinpoint the specific piece with a link in each instance, but I am unsure. Would a link or description (character's name, person who commissioned it, etc.) be preferable? Thanks for all the answers, everybody!
  9. Re: Storn Art from idea to full picture

JT, thanks for posting your characters. Because it allows me to state something about commissions in a public forum. Those briefs? Too much information.

I don't OFTEN need childhood traumas, long backgrounds and secret origins in order to do a picture. Sometimes it helps, but rarely. I know folks have passion for their creations... but I'm trying to add to that creation, throwing a lot of info at me obscures the forest thru the trees.

    {snip}

In fact, I got a GM's understanding of Mirror Man and NO description of what the character looks like in action... or costume. It is fine if folks have no idea what the costume should look like...but I need to know when I have this carte blanche room to operate. From what I've gleaned from charlie, he could wear anything from plaid to leather bomber jacket to 3 piece Saville Row suit to spandex... I didn't get a description of his gear. Is Mirror Man part of a super team? Or is he a loner? Does he fight crime? Does he have a radio comm to communicate with his team? Is he a PC or supporting cast NPC (that can have a visual difference)?

Storn' date=' what is the usual procedure for getting a piece of (superhero) character art done? I'm seriously considering comissioning one, but have never done this before.[/quote']

This is like what I was asking. Other questions I would have would be:

    1. How much say do I get in the character's appearance -- like particulars of the costume, pose, expression, powers in use, etc?

    2. Do I only get one "shot" at describing him, or can there be a little dialogue to convey more of the character? I might not think of everything all at once.

    3. Since this is for a Superheroic Champions game, I would want a "comic book" feel to the art -- does that require a certain format & materials (like paint, pen & ink, or something else)?

    4. I have some pieces of art (using the term loosely :)) that I have used previously for the character. Would it be okay to submit them along with the usual info on the character?

    5. Would also having the character sheet be helpful?

    6. Am I forgetting anything?

Thanks in advance to any and all who help educate me on this subject!

  10. Can the Stun lost due to a non-fulfilled Dependence Stun the character? I would think not, as the Dependence is technically affecting the character the entire time -- it's just that it's "saved up" for each time period to facilitate bookkeeping.

Otherwise, a character with a large # of D6, and long duration, Dependence could be just walking along fine one Phase, and the next, Whammo! Makes little sense to me that way.

  11. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

Ok, y'all thought Yonder was pretty hokey. Check out this dude. Some mix between Namor's tiger shark, Legion's glowworm guys (ferget name) and your standard brick body....

    ... sheesh.

If he was a bit more aquatic looking, he could be called HammerHead! ;-)

Storn, what is the usual procedure for getting a piece of (superhero) character art done? I'm seriously considering comissioning one, but have never done this before.

  12. These two entries are from the FAQ. the first implies that you *can* add Persistent to Costs END Only To Activate, and the second one says you can't. Which is it?

"Costs Endurance Only To Activate Power

Q: If I have this Advantage to a Power, and only have to pay END to turn the Power on, do I also need Persistent to keep it from turning off if I’m Stunned, Knocked Out, or asleep?

A: Yes, you still need Persistent. Costs Endurance Only To Activate Power doesn’t make a power Persistent, and as the 5E text notes on page 273-74, if you’re Stunned or Knocked Out, all powers which aren’t Persistent turn off.

Q: Can a character make a power with the Costs Endurance Only To Activate Advantage Persistent?

A: No. A power has to be 0 END before a character can apply Persistent. (However, see under “Endurance Reserve.â€)"

  13. If someone were to take an Endurance Battery, and take the Recovery portion with the Limitation, Costs END(-1/2), simulating that replenishing the store of energy is taxing on the character, when & how often does it cost END:

    1. Each Phase of the charcter -- and if he is unable to pay it on each and every phase, the Battery doesn't get it's REC on PF12.

    2. The END comes off of the character's PF12 Recovery, possibly causing a *loss* of END if the cost if greater than the character's personal REC.

    3. Something else?

  14. I've found a contradiction in the Powers FAQ w/ regards to BOECV entangles & Teleportation. The two Q&As are quoted below:

Q: Can a character use Teleportation to escape a BOECV Entangle?

A: A BOECV Entangle would not prevent Teleportation (unless the Teleportation required some sort of physical movement, like Gestures, which the Entangle prevents). However, the victim remains Entangled when he appears in his new location.

Q: Can a character escape a "Mental Paralysis" Entangle via Desolidification or Teleportation?

A: Yes to Teleporation; no to Desolidification. Applying the Cannot Be Escaped With Teleportation (+1/4) Advantage to a Mental Paralysis would keep the victim from Teleporting out of it.

Which is correct about using Teleportation to escape a BOECV Entangle?

  15. I couldn't seem to reply or to quote from Steve's reply to my first post, so I did a copy & paste for my follow-up question.

    > 1. The type of Maneuver doesn’t matter; the DCs add in

    > the normal way at the normal rate.

My confusion comes from the fact that Killing Strike isn't worded as "STR +nD6 Strike" but simply as "HKA 1/2D6 (2DC)". In the case of a weapon used with the Killing Strike maneuver, you would add the maneuver's 2DCs (which would convert to adding 1 DC) to the weapon?

    > 2. I’m not entirely sure what you’re asking here. A

    > character using a weapon can increase its damage via

    > STR, Martial Maneuvers, CSLs, velocity, and however many

    > other methods he has available to him given the

    > circumstances — subject, as always, to the rule about

    > not more than doubling the base attack’s damage.

To make a simple question out of the mishmash that I gave on my first post: If using a Martial Maneuver with a weapon, does STR still add it's DCs like it would without the Martial Arts?

    >What you may be asking is: can a character apply his STR

    > to a Martial Maneuver to increase its damage, then add

    > all that damage to his weapon, and then also add his STR

    > to the weapon as well (meaning he effectively adds his

    > STR to the weapon twice)? The answer to that is “no.â€

Nonono, that's not what I was asking. :) I know that in no way would any character get to add their STR twice to any one attack.

    > When a character applies a Martial Maneuver to a weapon,

    > he just applies the Damage Classes added by the Maneuver,

    > not Damage Classes + STR. If he wants to add his STR to the

    > weapon attack, he does so separately using the standard

    > rules for doing so.

I must have missed or misunderstood that rule. So for example, a character with Martial Strike (+2 DCs), a 20 STR, and using a 1D6 weapon with a STR min of 10 would do 2D6 in damage (1D6 weapon + (2DCs/2=1DC maneuver) + 2DCs STR)?

    SteveZilla

  16. A) If using a Killing damage weapon and an armed Matial art, and using the weapon with a Killing Strike Maneuver:

    1) Does the Maneuver damage add to the weapon as Base damage since it is also Killing damage?

    2) Do purchased extra M/A DCs add at the 2 to 1 like normal, or do they add at 1 to 1 in this instance?

    B) When using a Martial Maneuver (either from a weapon oriented Art, or a barehanded art w/ the appropriate Weapon Element & Familiarity) with a Killing damage weapon, STR (above the STR min for the weapon) still adds to the damage along with the extra DCs (maneuver & extra purchased) from the Art?
