Thanks, I enjoyed creating them.

Re: Trek Hero PDF available
While I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, I do hope it won't change Trek history.
I'm going to have to dust off my Trek Hero files one of these days and review them to see if there are any updates I want/need to do. In between writing new stuff for the Universe Project at ComStar...
Long live 'Trek

Re: A What would you like to see thread...
Based on the pdfs I've read from their site, Lightspeed is a space opera where approx 1/3 of the Milky Way galaxy is Star Trekish, 1/3 is Star Warish, and 1/3 is Frontier. So depending on what you prefer, your games can be in that 1/3 of the galaxy.

Here's a snippet from my work-in-progress for ComStar, called Sharp's Worlds. It's a firefly-inspired space cowboy setting book, part of the "universe project".
Gambler
Gamblers make their money by more or less honest games of chance – gambling. Most are found in saloons, since that’s where people with money to spend go, often looking for a friendly game.
Gamblers may be men or women, dressed in high fashion duds or dressed like common townsfolk. Some are squeakingly honest, and therefore very good at spotting cheats. Others are not very good, relying on sleight of hand and other cheating skills to win.

Re: Traveller Hero
Interestingly enough, the message on Target.com for the Traveller HERO books is "arriving in 4-6 weeks". Worth a shot...

Re: How Would You Build: Sequenced Effects
Sounds like a job for the Linked & Gradual Effect Limitations.I would create each effect as a Compound Power with the 2nd component Linked to the first, 3rd Linked to the 2nd, etc... . Then take the Gradual Effect Limitation on the entire construct defined by your sequence description examples.
This approach negates the need for Advantages like Uncontrolled since all the powers are actually being directed by their owner in a single Phase's action. They just happen to require a specific sequence and minimum time to complete.
Excellent.
-
Example 1: Spell of Thorny Roots. The initial attack is a TK grab (roots grabbing and holding victim), next phase the roots stab the target with razor-sharp thorns (HKA), third phase the roots pull the target partially in the ground (Entangle) and disappear. Once the spell is cast, the sequence occurs without control by the mage.
Example 2: Psionic Power - Mind Rake. The initial attack is an Ego Blast (strikes victim's mind), followed by an Ego Drain (rakes through injured mind) on the second phase, followed by 1 phase of Telepathy to read the "conditioned" mind.
There are times when a power or spell has a programmed sequence of effects, which once started are not directed/controlled by the individual, and it's not always obvious the best way to make that happen. So thoughts?

A bit off topic, but my sister sent this to me and it's fun for those of us who love Star Wars music and John Williams.

We've lost another one.

Again, just throwing out ideas Susano. You'll have to decide what you are comfortable working on/ creating

Re: Thank you from ComStar!
I want to say thanks again to Willliam, who saw the potential of our Traveller HERO becoming a published work and line. It's too bad about the Mongoose deal and the way it happened, but here we are.
The universe project for ComStar Star Hero stuff is by nature, full of infinite possibilities. To Kevin's point, if you have any requests you'd like to send our way for us to create, please post them or send a pm to Shadowcat or me or Polaris.

Re: Traveller HERO: end is approaching
What we've discussed with Polaris in the past is a sort of "universe" project, so that many things are possible. One possibility (stress the word - possibility ) is for Kevin to work on the Terran Empire setting, I work on a High Frontier setting based in another galaxy, Susano works on a manga style setting in yet another galaxy... and of course we all collaborate.
We'll see, lots to yet be discussed internally, but many possibilities.

Re: Anyone actually playing anything?
Traveler HERO loses its distribution rights in just a week or so IIRC. So' date=' you might want to make that purchase soon.[/quote']That's correct, after November 30th it can no longer be sold/purchased.
-
Re: Anyone actually playing anything?
I really like the Traveller setting and general approach' date=' so I'm eyeing the [b']Traveller Hero[/b] pdfs. What do you all think of these? Are the two books (1&2) complete enough to provide all you need? How is the complexity, more like 5E or 3E? I can't put a lot of effort into this, I want something that saves me work and doesn't require a ton of research or reading, and doesn't take itself too seriously. Money is very tight and if I get Traveller Hero it'll probably be my one and only gaming purchase for the foreseeable future.Mike
Although I'm biased I'll reply.
Everybody who has bought the books and posted online likes them a lot.
To your tight budget/complexity question,
The TravellerHero books do not reprint any information from Star Hero, Terran Empire, or Danger International, and do make references to those books where necessary. We could not reprint a small portion of the package deals - ones that didn't need any rewrite for TravellerHero - as part of our book. Realities of licensing. If you don't have or won't get those 3 books, there will be some small holes for you to fill.
The idea was to provide a set of sourcebooks for those who want to play Star Hero for Traveller. So there are profession and race package deals, weapons and gadgets and armor, conversion of character from Traveller to Hero charts, Starship writeups in Hero format, some history of the Imperium, etc. and more.
If you don't have any of the maps/supplements for Spinward Marches, Old Expanses, or any other subsector of interest, you'll have to create your own adventuring area.
And of course, the adventures are up to you no matter what .

Re: Traveller HERO: end is approaching
Does anybody besides Comstar sell the TH products? They appear to only have 2 payment options... Paypal or Check/MO' date=' I would really like to us a Visa Card...[/quote']ComStar games produces it, so that's where all of the TH books can be bought from. However, some of the TravellerHERO books are available through some of the resellers, like Amazon or RPGNow. When I did a web search for TravellerHERO, I got

Re: Traveller HERO: end is approaching
That is a question for Polaris.

Re: Traveller HERO: end is approaching
Does the license expiring mean you can't produce any new material or does it also prevent the sale of current stock as well?I just heard back from Polaris, and it means Everything gets pulled.
On a more positive note, he said that ComStar managed to get an extension, so it all gets pulled November 30th instead of November 1st.

Re: Scourges Of The Galaxy
It's certainly on my 'to buy' list. Just haven't made it there yet.
While HERO Books are useful to almost any setting, it should be pointed out to us that it is from the Star Hero line, as opposed to the Champions line (Galactic Champions) or such. I had to read the description to know which it was for. FYI Darren.

Re: Traveller HERO: end is approaching
And although the Traveller licensing for Traveller HERO is going away, we are not losing the HERO license. So we (myself, Shadowcat, and others) will continue to turn out Star Hero stuff. I'm planning on finishing my Star Hero Adventures, as well as settings and various other things for the ComStar Star Hero universe. Much of it should be transplantable to a Traveller Hero or other Star Hero campaigns. So a time of transition - the end of one thing and the start of something else.
-
Just a reminder that Traveller Licensing is fading come November (a week from tomorrow). If you don't have any of the Traveller Hero books and want them, time is short.
I've asked Polaris to post a more specific update as possible, but FYI.

Re: Looking For Some Trek Help
IIRC their character sheets are included with the relevant-era PDF files. The last 4 pages of the FASATrek pdf have Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Sulu, although their Disads need fleshing out.
I don't remember who I included in the TNG PDF.
Trekish things from ComStar in the works
in Star Hero
Posted
For those interested individuals,
We're working on several trekish thing currently. One is a hero version of Lightspeed, which has Trekish, Star Warish, and Nexusish parts of the galaxy.
We're also working on something tentatively called Final Frontiers, with a trekish feel, which will have hero and mongtrav versions. Can be played in original-Trek, TNG-Trek, and Dominion War-Trek flavors, although the villains in each are different than the TV shows.
Lightspeed, hero version, will be released first of the two books. Kevin and I are working hard away at conversions and such.
