  1. Re: Campaign/World Building Help HiYa, maybe these links will be helpful. http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Labyrinth/4905/index.html http://www.seventhsanctum.com/www/wwwfull.html http://www.dragondogpress.com/unclefiggy/fantasy/index.html
  2. Re: How not to come up with a magic system! HiYa Curufea, No problem dreging up the old post. I am still working on it actually, been working to much overtime lately to do more the dabble at though. Got you link bookmarked and will read it this weekend. Cannot wait to see your rewritten ley-line sytem when you are done.
  3. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I had to order Dhampir (book1), still waiting for it to get here. I just started re-reading Oath of Swords and will get The War God's Own shortly. Now if I can scrap up the money for Windriders Oath. I have been waiting for that forever.
  4. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Have to much time on my hands, being laid-off and all. I just finished Thief of Lives By: Babr & J.C. Hendee Magiere a Dhampir(half-Vampire) thinks her nights of hunting vampires over. She lloks to quite days, until Bela's town council oaffera generous bounty to hunt the vampire that killed a prominent councilman's daughter. Only Lessil here Half-Elf partner can persuade Magiere to follow her destiny--before more innoncents are claimed by darkness. It is like Antia Blake or buffy in a standard fanstay world. I give it a 8/10. a very enjoayble read. Covenants (A Borderlands Novel) By: Lorna Freeman Trooper-- a horse soldier Rabbit is nothing but a grunt in the Royal army of Iversterre. A lost grunt , seeing how his troop cannot seem to find its way out of the mountains. Noble-- The Faena, a mountain cat called Laurel blows Rabbit's cover. urns out he is not some poor Border farm boy. Mage--Smugglers are making runs into the border killing its sacred beings. It is enough to make the calmest Border-born angry. The Border trounced Ivesterre once and it will happen again. Unless Rabbit can stay cool and learn the rules of a game he's never wanted to play. It's the very enjoyable and different. It is also the first book written in first person I have so enjoyed in a long time. 9/10 Kris Longknife--Mutineer By: Mike Shepherd Interesting book, where Kris Longkife is born to the privilege, money and power. Her father is the Prime Minister of her home planet and her Mother the consummate politician's wife. She is raised to be beautiful and marry wel, but the heritage of the military Longkifes coures through her blood. Against her parents objections she enlists in the marines. She has a lot to live up to and a lot to prove in the long standing struggle between her her powerful family, a highly definsive-- and offensive earth. Then a iil-concieved attack brings war close to home and now her life is on the line. Now she has only one choice, certain death on the front lines of rim sapce--or muntiy. I like the book. Some of the technology is different, the main characters are lievly and everyone has little quirks to stand out. A few things are cliched so I am only giveing 9/10. The Writers complete Fanatasy Reference Introduction by Terry Brooks. One stop reference book on fantasy from classical medieval witchcraft, Ancient civilzations, fantasy races. etc. The is probably the most valuable book I have bought on desigining fanatsy in writing. Useful in many ways. Great companion to Fantasy Hero, especially if read and use the magic/ Witchcraft Pagan paths chapters. I do not give books 10/10 so it gets the same rating as Fantasy Hero 9.75/10.
  5. Re: Rage's Build a world thread. I like it, everything feels like it belongs together, haphazard or not.
  6. Re: Planescape Adaptation Nice page C_Zeree. You have quite a bit of information there, between you and Killer Shrike's I barely have to do any conversation work for dnd to Hero. Thanks!
  7. Re: How not to come up with a magic system! Thanks Lezentauw.
  8. Re: How not to come up with a magic system! Humm! interesting idea pson, thanks. Cool Idea Lezentauw. The magic in my world being on the high end is not the word for it Magic plays a big role in my world, especially in war. All you have given me many ideas and things to think about it. Keep throwing them at me, please.
  9. Re: How not to come up with a magic system! I have always thought I had to many games. I am a game junkie Lately I been selling quite a few off on Rpg.net. I sure do. I have hacked almost everygame I ahve played one way or the other. Thanks for all the help.
  10. Re: How not to come up with a magic system! Thanks for the ideas. Humm! sounds like Arcane law for RMSS. Doc have you ever read it Maybe I pull it out and adapt from there. I am defintely looking for colorful magic and making the players or Characters in my stories to think. I seem to building a very High magic fantasy world. I have to work this out in detail, I may let priests do something similar or come up with something similiar. If not I will have to rethink my War-Mages. Soome use Divine Magic with the Arts of War, others use Arcane and the Arts of War. While the very best use Divine,Arcane and Arts of war together. I see them having some kind of magic/divine link. Sigh what a job.
  11. Re: How not to come up with a magic system! I didn't know that. I never read anything by her but Chrome Born. She is a good writer but just not my style. Doc that is a very interesting idea, never really thought of that to much. I want to make tapping ley lines/power nodes dangerous especially if they tap or use them to cahrge up endurance reserves or to aid spells.. I am probably going to use a corruption or burnout or tap addiction side effect or a combination of all three.
  12. Hello, My title says it all, well almost all. I like to do fantasy writing in my spare time and have been writing this story called The Reluctant Champion. The problem is that the story is also set in my world where my players will be playing. Some have read the current draft and like the magic use description. Now it seems like I am stuck with it. While it works in stories I am not sure if it will work as a magic system. I give you some excerpts to let you read. ~excerpt 1--Use of Mage-Sight, Power nodes and ley lines. “It would be much appreciated,†giggled Lissa. Vail smiled at this and really looked around him and saw things, as they truly were not what they seemed by using his Mage-Sight. The city of FreeHaven was a city varnished with age and washed in tremendous power. Vail shuddered at what someone could do with that power if they knew how. “Lissa have you looked at this truly looked at the city?†“Not really, been to busy looking after you.†“Look at with your Mage-Sight,†Vail said. Lissa opened her inner eye and the resident power exploded and almost overwhelmed her Mage-Sight. â€Wow!†“That is the word for it,†Vail chuckled. “It is not just the ancient protections Vail, it is something…what am I seeing Vail?†“You are seeing a radiating effect from a power node. A powerful one with multiple ley lines. †“Is that good or bad?†“Depends, with the protections swirling around, no one outside the city could access it, but from inside they would have tremendous power to draw on.†“I am not sure I like the sound of that.†“I know I do not like it. So to be on the safe side lets trace it.†“Let’s do it.†~excerpt 2--Ley lines--Antimated graveyard--Spell casting He turned around and paled as the ley lines brightened and were sucked down into the node the spirits were sucked down into swirling maelstrom, with a mighty wail that shook the buildings in the area. “Lissa it is time to run,†Vail said as he pulled her around and they started to sprint towards the way the came. A vortex of black power exploded up from the graveyard and slammed into their backs. Vail and Lissa and all the people in the area flew through the air from the explosive force. Some People tried to swim through the air with flailing limbs, but most hit the road or buildings with body numbing impact. Vail rose groggily from the stone street and swayed over towards Lissa. She was moaning when he reached and touched her face. Lissa’s eyes fluttered open and sat up with Vail’s assistance. People around them groaned and rose slowly but some were out cold. A young girl screamed and pointed towards the graveyard. People moaned with fear and started to run away from what they saw. Lissa’s blue eyes turned white as she followed the girl’s fingers and stared at the churning ground. Bony white fingers and gray maggot ridden fleshly arms were reaching the surface. Doors blew off the tombs and many more undead joined the horror before Lissa’s eyes. “Vail†“I see Lissa,†Vail said as he reached down and helped Lissa up. “But…†“No buts. Nothing we do right at this moment.†“So what do we do.†“I would say run away, But we need to get the stop reacting and get them to help us move the injured away from here.†The undead slowly started walking, pulling their dead brothers out of the ground as they moved towards the gate. Vail looked at Lissa and said, “Time for a spell or two my dear.†Lissa took Vail’s hand and said, “A force wall seems appropriate.†“Sounds good. Ready?†“Yes let’s do it.†Vail and Lissa started chanting the spell formula together and both reached out to mana around them and gathered it in and held it inside them. The chant rose in volume as they twisted and molded the power and with a shout, the power exploded into a hazy wall before them. The undead slammed into the wall and stopped. Their nails and finger bones screeched as they dug at the wall. The eyes of the dead flared with a sickly green as they wailed in frustration. Vail looked the wall with satisfaction and smiled at Lissa. “It will do but it will not last forever.†“That is true. So let’s get order restored.†I think I have created a ambient mana system with a twist, I could be wrong though. The premise for magic in the story is to channel mana in spell formula's utilzing chants and maybe gestures. But they get tired from the spellcasting. I think that I want use ambient/mana system but it causes LTE use for every cast spell. So I thought about using Enduarnce reserves (aka mana) and for every spell cast it also costs 1 LTE End per spell cast, which is not recoverable until you get a couple hours sleep/rest etc. Is this idea fesible?
  13. Re: Gods: How do you handle them? Wow mayapuppies, that is cool. I have never taken my gods to that level of detail. Something I nedd to think about .
  14. Re: Gods: How do you handle them? Thanks. I have to say yours gave me quite a bit to think about. I love the faith level , diety rank and active point value concept.
  15. Re: Gods: How do you handle them? To give you and idea how I am handling gods here is the outline of Gods timeline. Is it pretty simple right now. --Timir and Nechara were born from Chaos and Order, she is the mother. --Feyfal comes into existence, born of Chaos and the Spells of Nechara and Timir. --Feyfal bonds with Timir and marries him before Chaos and Order, which is the Balance and the Balance is the mother. Nechara is the one and only witness. -- The universe is spun out of the Balance and given form by the Nechara, Timir, and Feyfal. Using the Chaos as the energy and Order to give the universe form. Imbuing the planets, stars, plants and animals with the energies of Chaos and Order. --Simlafar the first Child of Timir and Feyfal is born. -- Justicar the second Child of Timir and Feyfal is born. --Tiathafal the third child of Timir and Feyfal is born. --Kashmir forms herself out of Nothingness and is the first god/Goddess to have been self-created since Timir and Nechara. This stuns everyone as no one thought it was possible for this to happen, especially Timir, Nechara and Feyfal. Since the proof is before their eyes they must believe and welcome Kashmir to the Growing Pantheon of Gods and Goddesses. --Seylar the fourth child of Timir and Feyfal is born. --Nechara courts Simlafar without her parent’s permission. They finally find out about the liaison and give their permission for the courting to continue. --Wrathcar the fifth child of Timir and Feyfal is born. --Raith the sixth child of Timir and Feyfal is born. --Nechara and Simlafar petition Timir and Feyfal to marry and it is granted. There is a giant party. --Darkfar the first child of Nechara and Simlafar is born. --Raffelli the seventh and last child of Timir and Simlafar is born. --Neratol the second child of Nechara and Simlafar is born. --Nechara and Simlafar ask to create their own plane to raise their brood of children and permission is granted. --Feratol the third child of Nechara and Simlafar is born. --Plagra the fourth and last child of Nechara and Simlafar is born. Here is the first hundred years of world timeline, scheduled to be 15,000 years long I have only written the first 1900 years. Word Count = 7510 The First Age Begins 1-The Gods and Goddesses were lonely and created the God Listeners as the first and eldest race, investing the blood of the gods in them when they are created. They are the only race that has this genetic connection to the gods and they consider it as a blessing and a curse. At first it is to serve them and then for them to be one with the gods. 15-Timir and Nechara have a huge argument about freewill of the God Listeners. Nechara says they are to serve and the only will they should have is what their god commands. Timir disagrees with Nechara, he says everyone; Gods, animals and races should have the Free Will to do, as they want. The other gods side with their respective parents. 30-Raith and Darkfar meet and fall into love. A child called Firock is born to them. Simlafar hates him and casts him out to Killarim for being an Abomination. Rescued by his mother she brought him to the Realm of Light. Firock is the only god born after the creation of the Universe. 100-The Gods and Goddesses of the Pantheon create alternate races according to their will, ideas and needs. Every God or Goddess have a view on what their ideal race is. For Firock it is the Dwarves, Tiathafal creates the Elves and for the others it is the short-lived humans.
