  1. I'm looking to make a Mystic Ranger. What I'm looking for is a good way for the Ranger to be able to charge his arrows with mystic power. I was thinking of having the damage of the arrow increased by this ability or maybe a mystic flaming arrow. Anyone got some suggestions? Any help would be great.
  2. Re: Champions Or Mutants & Masterminds? Thanks everyone for responding! I got alot from these posts, I'll read through them all again and work out a solution. I think what may help me is to have everyone make a charachter for each system and see how they feel with the character generation. Then I'll make some simple games for each system and see what happens. I agree that HERO is more detailed in character creation. I think M&M will be simple but lack that feeling of character identity. Thanks again.
  3. Re: Champions Or Mutants & Masterminds? I know that like myself, others play more than just the one system they love. Alot use other system for ideas as well as diffrent looks at how things are dealt with in other systems. I guess what I'm looking for are those few rare individuals that are very well versed in many different systems and could give some of their insight and wisdom. My bad for not being more specific with my request.
  4. Looking to start a Superhero game with a new group. Only 2 of us have ever played with the Hero system. In your opinions what system would be easier on new players? What one is better for character development? Thanks for any replys.
  5. Re: Champions universe created by magic? In the Star Hero book the loss of superpowers nad heroes was due to the change in the flow of magic (until later on in the Galactic Champions setting) so how would the genetic mutations suddenly be lost or those with powers from a chemical or other such powers if they aren't related to the flow of "magic"? What about those that were immortal now they no longer immortal? Just gives me some real cool ideas for an alternate universe storyline.
  6. If magic is the source of superpowers in the Champions Universe if I was a mutant with powers would a negate magic spell nulify my powers? Though my powers are from a genetic alteration it's an alteration that is caused(triggered) by magic so that would make that ability really dangerous.
  7. Re: Who are the greatest (?) super villains? 1st: Dr. Destroyer: He just happens to be one of those guys that could ruin your day. 2nd: Omega The Lord of the Terminus (Mutants & Masterminds): Pretty creepy looking and full of power.
  8. Re: Can't Draw must find help! Thanks for the help and the ideas I'll give them a try. if you come up with any others please let me know.
  9. I have always enjoyed looking at other people's drawings that they make for their characters and have long wanted to do the same but alas I am how you say...artistaclly challenged. I have great ideas and can see what I want to draw but well I just cant get it right and my stick figures scare my children so I have to put the pencil down. I want to know if there are some easy to use programs that can in a sense help me bring my characters to life? I am putting out an S.O.S to any and all in the Fantasy Realm that have an incrediable talent help me find a way to ease my pain.
  10. Anyone that plays the Turakain Age setting use or not use the Spell Focus in their magic system? I was thinking of not using it but wanted some feed back as to how it may affect the magic sytem for the setting. Any thoughts?

Re: Need help! Thanks. I've have already come up with a few guide lines that will help me with this but it's always nice to get help from others.

    Need help!

I just bought all the Star Hero books and I like what I see, so far. I know that standard characters are built at the heroic level and thats ok. What I want to know is how much credits do the characters start with? Do I just make up an amount that I think is good? Is there something for the type of characters that are played (Military, police etc)? What about the characters starting equipment since you don't use (or at least don't have to) CP points for equipment what are some of the guidelines you use for this? Ant help would be great. Thanks.
  13. Re: Standard 1st level Star Hero Character? thanks!
  14. Re: Alien Wars? Thank for the info!

    Alien Wars?

This is a seperate setting from the Terran Emprie correct?
  16. Re: Killing Charachters/Villians in your games. Do you do it? Actually according to Marvel stats between who has killed more Wolverine or the Punisher, Wolverine had a kill count in the high hundres(if not more can't quite remember the stats) and the Punisher was not far behind. Wolverine is pretty old and has been involved in just about every major conflict around and worked as a Black-ops operative doing wetwork and other nasty stuff. even if the were left breathing thet most likley died from there wounds. He has stated before that taking a life is the easy part it's living with it that haunts you forever. He has pulled his punches when required but when he decides that they are going down they go down. Being in the X-Men has helped some but part of his plot line is that he can't escape what he is (or at least what they created him to be). I asked this question to see how others deal with this issue becaus eeveryone is different. i myself don't really have a problem with my characters who decided that the villian needs to buy the farm, I of course make it as hard for them as possible and make sure that they get what they give. And if the situation requires that the law needs to step in then I do that as well. I try and add some real life stuff to a fantasy game and come out with something in between. As in real life if a ploice officer tells you to put your hands in the air and you make a motion like your going for a weapon or charge at them then they have a split second to decide if their life is in danger and react accordingly.
  17. Could someone do a quick write up of a 1st level Star Hero character with gear so I can examine how it is done? Dosen't matter who or what the character is, I was looking to Buy Star Hero and use the published material until I know enough to make my own. Thanks.
  18. Re: Why play Fantasy Hero over other fantasy games? I checked out a few more websites and have decided that between my Champions game I'm going to do a Fantasy Hero and a Star Hero Game. I'll do one then another and find which my group prefers to start a campaign in, or go hog wild and combine all 3. What I would like to know from you guys is this, how long would you say it taked to throw a game that would last for 4-6 hours together? Plus that would be easy to get a new group introduced to the game. I'm thinking maybe I should just throw a couple of characters together and have them play those until they get a feel of the game and the mechanics and them let them make their own. Your thoughts.
  19. Re: Why play Fantasy Hero over other fantasy games? Thanks guys, I see that alot of you share the same views when it comes to Fantasy Hero & D&D. That tells me that the proof must be in the pudding. To have so many people say the same thing and have the same points it must be a great game. I'm starting a new Champions group but I think I'll pick up the Fantasy Hero book and give it a read. Thanks again for your help.
  20. Re: Why play Fantasy Hero over other fantasy games? Thanks this great stuff. I know from playing champions (started with the 4th ed) that it was a chore to make a character, I didn't have anyone to teach me or help me out with it. i just plowed through it until stuff started to make sense, then came trying to run a game. Which was a task unto itself, I had to make the game help with the other players characters and teach them the game mechanics as we went along. this worked out after a few rough spots and some people got it and a few struggled with it. The poeple I used to group with are all gone now but 1. So we played D&D beacuse it was easier to get up and going. I have never played Fantasy Hero even when it was out before so my not being familiar with the game and not owning a copy of the book has kept me from buying it. How does it differ from Champions, can I still basically build what I want? How would I go about creating a 1st level Fighter/Wizard? How does the spell system work? Could someone right up a quick character that I could show my players? Thanks again for your input, if things work out I might just run out and get the book.
  21. Re: Killing Charachters/Villians in your games. Do you do it? Wow this is good I have recieved alot of differnt views on this subject. this is good. I don't play my games so that everyone is out to kill each other but I believe that if the PCs make a stupid mistake even after they have been warned then I let the dice roll as they may. I also treat my villians just as villians in our world. They have rights to an extent and like alot of real bad guys they don't want to be caught and are willing and sometimes able to try and take you out. I usually try and even it out whatever the villians dish out is what they get in return, usually after a warning (got to be politicaly correct). As far as killing goes in comics take a look at the Ultimate X-Men and you will see a different style of comic book than the old Uncanny X-Men. I mean wolverine tried to off Cyclops just to get Jean Grey. A lets face it when it comes to taking out the bad guys Wolverine has no problem doing that. He has a code against killing to his is just used when he decideds to use it. If a guy is shooting at him with an machine gun then they will probably eat some adamantium and they wont be back for another issue. I don't even remembethe last time I had a PC get killed or a villian either. Had a few that ended up crippled for life and a few that went insane. I was just wondering how the majority of hero players do their games. Thanks for the different views.
  22. Re: Killing Charachters/Villians in your games. Do you do it? I tend to give my players as many chances to stay alive as possible, but sometimes the just don't take a hint. As far as them killing the bad guys I let them decide. If they are after a villian who has just destroyed a bridge with hundreds of people on it and they manage to track him down they may not be very nice to him. Usually the characters with the CvK will try and calm the hot heads in the group and prevent them from doing this but sometimes they don't arrive in time and the villian goes down for the count. I look at it as sometimes when dealing with supervillians they don't quite fit into normal justice. If a guy is able to use a radiation type power and walk in to a mall and kill people nine chances out of ten he isn't worth trying to lock up in jail. There powers make them in most cases a gobal threat. even though Stronhold is a nice idea it is like many real like prisons, just how many supervillians can you hold before you have no more room? For example do you think you can rehabilitate Dr. Destroyer or Mechannon? These two should be a destroy on site type situation. Keep the thoughts and ideas coming.
  23. To anybody who plays Star Hero and uses the published materials can you give me a quick rundown of the setting. Is it like Star Wars or Star Trek or is it completley unlike anything we've seen before. I have decide that I want to try all the hero products that I haven't played before (Fantasy Hero/Star Hero) and would like some input.
  24. Just wanted to get some feedback from other players to find out if they have killed player characters in their games. Do you allow your heroes to kill the villians? If they do what are the consequences, are there any? Give me some examples. I'm starting a new game based off of the characters me and my group made in the PC game City of Heroes. The heroes in Paragon City don't kill they apprehend the villians. But I tend to try and be a more realistic gamemaster and allow the characters to act as they feel they would really act to certin situation, which may include killing (in self defense of course). So let me know your thoughts.
