  1. Re: Charlton Action Heroes I recently read an interview with Dick Giordano in which he stated that he essentially gave Thunderbolt back to Mr. Morisi. That's probably true as Giordano and Morisi knew each other for a long time and worked together at Charlton. I don't think there's any evidence that Morisi had an ownership stake in a character created as work-for-hire any more than Jack Kirby had an ownership stake in the New Gods.
  2. Re: Second Best Game System ? I thought it was still in development at Margaret Weis Productions...?

  4. Re: Charlton Action Heroes I miss the Ditko Blue Beetle, Ditko Question, Ditko Captain Atom, and Thunderbolt! Heck, I even enjoyed Peacemaker and Nightshade. It's too bad there's no Earth-Charlton where they're being used. It was a great concept to have no super powers (except Captain Atom grandfathered in), just special gadgets, gimmicks, and skills. I'd love to play a Champions game in that world. --Kap
  5. Re: Charlton Action Heroes I read that there is no record at the Library of Congress of a transfer of copyrights from Quality Comics to D.C., but rather a purchase of trademarks only. That may be the real reason D.C. developed Elongated Man and didn't bring publish Plastic Man until 1966, when Quality closed shop in 1956 and sold its titles to D.C. Plastic Man may in fact be in the public domain, but I wouldn't recommend trying to fight Warner Brothers' deep pockets. Blue Beetle (the original version) and Phantom Lady (original version) are in the public domain. --Kap

  7. Re: Second Best Game System ? I could never get past V&V's need for mathematical formulae just to determine how much you can lift...that and the funky rules format written like the California Vehicle Code: "Section 22349(a)."

    Fictional cities

Re: Fictional citys The closest I come nowadays to using fictional cities is taking a real city and making changes, kind of what Stan Lee did when he took New York and inserted the Baxter Building and Stark Mansion. I find it's easier to use a real city because I've had players complain that their PCs live in the fictional city but don't know what's there until they're told, which takes away their sense of verisimilitude.
  9. Re: Second Best Game System ? 2nd and the D.C. version of the 3rd are the ones I was saying were poorly organized.

    Pirate Hero

Re: Pirate Hero Wouldn't that be a pirate?
  12. Re: Second Best Game System ? Is MEGS dead? That was going to be my answer, too. As for Mutants & Masterminds, I found it almost unreadable. I found the way they scatter information throughout the book to be the biggest reason I never played the game. It was just too much work for me to get a handle on the system. The "D.C." version was even worse: my friends and I spent an hour trying to find out how you figure out the damage from a punch, since it wasn't in the combat section at all. --Kap
  13. Re: Newbie running a game for Newbies I would first ask them what their concepts are for their PCs. Some of the power ideas might already have been written up pretty well in the book, in which case you can use those or adapt them. Any that aren't already done, I would just show them how to make the power using the rules. Otherwise you end up contradicting your own sales pitch to them on how they can make whatever they want and that's why the game is so great for super heroes--all the other games give you a list you have to choose from, and that's why Hero System is so much better! --Kap
  14. Re: Charlton Action Heroes Thanks for the links but I already have complete runs of all the Charlton Action Heroes except Sarge Steel and Judo Master. I'm just looking to see how others would construct these characters. --Kap
  15. Re: Need help for a low-level / street-level-campaign Why do you let this player in the game?
  16. Re: Need help for a low-level / street-level-campaign "Night in Gotham" and the Batman sourcebook from the old Mayfair Games' "D.C. Heroes" game are good resources for working up adventures or scenarios such as you're looking for. I've seen them for sale very cheap on Amazon and eBay. Can't help you with players who don't want to cooperate, though. I'm having a similar problem with a player in a campaign I'm running now. --Kap

    Pirate Hero

Re: Pirate Hero My understanding is that the Old Norse word "víkingr" translates as "pirate." Looks like you'd have a tie.
  18. Re: campaign start off adventure MH4 "Lone Wolves" from the old TSR Marvel Super Heroes RPG is pretty decent as you modify it slightly to accommodate your particular PCs and give them a reason to work together for the first time. You can download it free (along with the whole game and other stuff for it) at: http://www.classicmarvelforever.com/cms/basic-game-and-modules.html I don't know if they're violating any copyrights but they're not selling it and the site's been up for a long time without a cease-and-desist order so I'd imagine it's okay. --Kap
  19. Has anyone written up the Charlton Action Heroes? Or do you know where they were written up by someone else? And I mean the Charlton Action Heroes before D.C. fiddled with them to make them "better." --Kap
  20. Re: campaign start off adventure "Crisis at Crusader Citadel" from Villain & Vigilantes could work. It starts off your PCs as new heroes who are trying to apply for membership in an established super team. The enemies of the super team have occupied their HQ, if I recall it right, and the PCs get to play hero and rescue their idols. And then they can run off and form their own team if you like. --Kap
