    Marvel Super Friends

Re: Marvel Super Friends I wonder if the network would have gone for Scarlet Witch or Thor. They wouldn't show a punch so I wonder if they'd have been okay with a "witch" and a "god" on a children's show?

    Fictional cities

Re: Fictional cities Wouldn't tell you much about the culture or atmosphere of a place.
  4. I posed this question in the middle of an unrelated thread where almost no one saw it, so here goes in a thread of its very own: If the Super Friends had been done using Marvel characters rather than D.C. characters, who would have been in the lineup instead of Superman, Batman & Robin, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman? Spider-Man and the Hulk seem like shoo-ins due to their popularity and media presence in the '70s. Would Captain America take the "Superman" slot? Who would take "the girl" slot? I read that Aquaman, although relatively unknown at the time, was chosen for two reasons: (1) they wanted a character without red or blue in the color scheme and (2) the underwater visuals he could add to the stories. T.V. cartoons being a visual medium aimed mainly at children, is there a Marvel character who would add in this way? Also: who do you think they would have added to the lineup for "Challenge of the Super Friends" in place of Green Lantern, Flash, Hawkman, Black Vulcan, Apache Chief, and Samurai? I'm very interested in hearing what you think and why! --Kap
  5. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Well, I love robots and gorillas so in my imagination that would be awesome! What comic book is "Bender the Robot" from?
  6. Re: Justice League Detroit I always liked that Vibe's dialect was a put-on and that he was secretly a mama's boy. I even enjoyed his flamboyant costume. He had potential. When they killed Steel, I wasn't happy. When they killed Vibe I was peeved. We don't get a lot of Latin super heroes. - Kap
  7. Re: campaign start off adventure Those are my tried-and-true standbys. You can use them over and over if you make minor variations or no changes at all if all the players are new.
  8. Re: Music For A Pulp Noir Detective Story The Stan Getz soundtrack to "Mickey One" might work for you.
  9. Re: Unoficial Advance Players Guide 3 Survay. Maybe you mean something different from what I'm understanding here, but isn't this where roleplaying comes in? --Kap

  11. Anybody ever build the Detroit-era Justice League members? Aquaman Elongated Mann Gypsy Martian Manhunter Steel Vibe Vixen Zatanna Even better, anybody ever play or run a campaign with the Detroit Justice League? --Kap

    Chaos Demon

Re: Chaos Demon They're cute and cuddly and always looking for hugs. You can see them on "Sesame Street" from time to time. I think Elmo is one.
  13. Re: reference material for Street Heroes Has anybody said Condorman yet?
  14. Re: From Superfriends to Watchmen: The Extremes of Superheroes also no evidence Gwen was still alive at that point anyway.
  15. Re: From Superfriends to Watchmen: The Extremes of Superheroes I saw a couple of episodes of the Marvel Super Hero Squad show. I didn't like them. The voices were too squeaky and I couldn't stand the weird body proportions and jokey antics. I'm not their target audience, but I wouldn't let my son watch it either when I have DVDs of Super Friends he can see. It seems like they've aimed not just at kids, but stupid kids.
  16. Re: From Superfriends to Watchmen: The Extremes of Superheroes Speaking of Super Friends, anybody ever write up Zan & Jayna, Gleek, Apache Chief, Samurai, and the like? Anybody ever write up the Hall of Justice as a base? I kinda want to play Super Friends now...with slightly better plots and the characters allowed to actually hit people. Also, just for fun: if Super Friends had been Marvel rather than D.C., which characters do you think they would use and why? Limit yourself to the same number of characters as the cartoon did! And no simple substitution of so-called analogues, i.e., Sub-Mariner for Aquaman just because both are aquatic. --Kap
  17. Re: From Superfriends to Watchmen: The Extremes of Superheroes I appreciate that and would give you "rep" if I knew how, but it doesn't make the coroner's report unrealistic. You stated that all narratives are unrealistic. Realism doesn't mean you have to include the color of the drawers in which the corpses reside, and how many hairs are on the jacket's sleeve. Missing or excluded information doesn't equal unrealism. Facts can be left out and a narrative can still be realistic. As in the case of the coroner's report. In fact, the coroner's report can be downright wrong but still realistic. Anyway...I think we were waiting on someone to tell us the difference between "complex" and "realistic" with regard to super hero games/stories.
  18. Re: Hero System Sixth Edition Concise Not for me it isn't. I don't intend to stare at a computer during my leisure time any more than I have to. I do enough of it at work!
  19. Re: Hero System Sixth Edition Concise If it's to be "concise," I'd prefer they left out your idea of "Chapter 5: Where To Next? Min Background On Vareous Parts Of The Hero System Multiverse." A lot of us have no interest whatsoever in the settings created by Hero. Wasted pages for us that could be used on something more useful like examples of character generation for different settings. I'd also prefer to do without the proposed Chapter 6 and just include guidelines on how to build new skills and talents in the sections that cover skills and talents. Other than that it sounds pretty good.
  20. Re: From Superfriends to Watchmen: The Extremes of Superheroes Mutants were a separate "race" (calling themselves "Homo superior" didn't help their cause). It was a parable for bigotry. It made perfect sense that those who hated mutants were not logically consistent because those who hate another race aren't known for their logical reasons why.

  23. Re: From Superfriends to Watchmen: The Extremes of Superheroes Did you mean to say "fiction is unrealistic"? Newspapers are narrative, as are police and coroner reports. They tend to be realistic. I work with them daily. - Kap
  24. Re: From Superfriends to Watchmen: The Extremes of Superheroes You chose to define neither for purposes of this discussion, so please elaborate. As for "complex," super heroes are an inherently simple genre rooted in the idea that you can solve problems by putting on tights and beating up other folks in tights, and somehow not be accountable for taking the law into your own hands. In a complex super hero game or comic book, Batman would be sitting in a penitentiary in the same cell block as the Joker.
  25. Re: From Superfriends to Watchmen: The Extremes of Superheroes That could be an interesting starting point for a "real life" (non-powered) super hero game. -Kap
