JmOz - is the reason the VPP doesn't have a foci on itself representing the belt because you think Batman should be able to have the gadget anywhere on his person, and the fact that he can be disarmed of all of his gadgets is jsut a special effect of the "List" limitation?   3. Hi folks, this is always such a helpful community, I'm hoping you can lend me (and my GM) some aid. I have a character that is essentially a Batman homage, complete with a utility belt. I had originally built the character using a multipower, but found that this didn't properly suit the homage, as Batman always has so MANY gadgets and devices crammed into that belt of his. Later, I found JmOz's fantastic Bat Gear thread compiling all of the gadgets found in the Animated Batman series, and all built on less than 30 active points (if you haven't seen this yet, it is an astounding amount of work and all of the gadgets are incredibly well thought out). I quickly got my GM's permission to use a VPP to simulate all of the various gadgets to be found in Batman's belt and wrote it up as follows: Utility Belt: Variable Power Pool (Gadget Pool), 30 base + 24 control cost, all slots Powers Can Be Changed As A Zero-Phase Action (+1) (60 Active Points); all slots OIF (Utility Belt; Requires Multiple Foci or functions at reduced effectiveness; -1/4) The multiple foci requirement is meant to represent that all powers created by the VPP must have a focus, and that the VPP itself has a foci (OIF Utility Belt). Ok, so far so good right? No one in our group had much experience with VPP's, myself included. After a few game sessions, my GM has been complaining that the Utility Belt is too versatile, allowing me to quickly come up with solutions to some of our worst encounters and ruining hours he has spent creating these villains and prepping for the encounter. My fellow players and I see this differently, as we've nearly gotten creamed in most of these encounters, and the gadgets have just barely saved the day each time. I don't want to quibble though, and I can see that he is just trying to create a challenge for us. The villains have such high and varied defenses in part because he thinks he needs it on them just to create a challenge for us since I can whip out inexpensive gadgets that can cream folks after one hit due to things like APx2, Continuous Continuing Charges, Boostable Charges, etc. My point is this... I want to appease my GM since he was nice enough to allow me to switch to the VPP build from my previous MP, and it does simulate the Utility Belts of the comic world much better than many other things we've seen. I'm looking for some creative ways to limit the VPP but still provide flexibility. Some ideas I'm considering are a total charge limit on the entire VPP that each power pulls from (ex: 64 charges total, and all charges for all powers in the VPP pull from that pool), or a limit on the number of gadget items I can have in the belt at any one time (requiring me to choose from the list prior to the start of the session and only allowing me to change the list if we return to base or something similar). What other ideas might you guys have for trying to creatively limit this VPP while still providing the flavor desired? Thanks in advance for the help and please forgive the long post.

I've got two characters so far, both from my Champions table top games: Jabberwock (been playing this guy on the table top since Champions 1st edition) The Watchman (a Batman/Nightwing homage character) I usually solo with Jabberwock and play The Watchman with another buddy of mine.

    Re: Bat gear I for one would enjoy seeing a sixth edition version. Of course I'm not sure my group will be converting over (I know, blasphemy). I'm wondering how compatible the old 5th edition books are going to be with sixth edition. K

I should point out that the gallery reflects some personal bias on my part... up until now I only included pics if I thought I might use them, which is probably why Dr. Snail and Ptera Don were AWOL.   12. Re: Storn Art from idea to Full Picture Year 6 Ok DT, here's a different one for you: Hellspawn: A teleporter wielding a trident that fires various blasts (cue Kirby Dots here). His costume is actually an armored hazard suit that has been modified to give the wearer a classic demon/devil appearance in poor lighting or from a distance. The hazard suit is necessary because of the harsh environment of the dimension that the character travels through as he teleports. The trident is a stylized blaster weapon to enhance the demonic/devil look. In good lighting it would be obvious that this is an armored costume though.

Re: Storn Art from idea to Full Picture Year 6 Well, I don't want to seem like a broken record DT, but I'm going to renew my previous entry for this year's commission as well (this time villains only, sicne you already commissioned The Jabberwock hero previously): Villains based on some Lewis Carroll characters (not necessarily to be associated with the Cheshire Cat or the Gryphon). In my campaign, Wonderland is a real alternate dimension, but is also a slightly darker place than is perhaps depicted in the Lewis Carroll tales (though granted some parts of his tales are already dark). Some characters based on these tales might include: Alice - The adult version of the young Alice that tumbled down the rabbit hole. She faced some very scary creatures in Wonderland, and almost lost her head. These childhood traumas have hardened her and made her into a modern Martial Artist/Monster Hunter type (a la Buffy). Anti-hero NPC. Tweedledee and Tweedledum - This brick pair can drain peoples very intelligence merely by uttering a few warped and twisted phrases/riddles. Both are idiots themselves, and can be easily duped. Prone to combating one another as much as fighting their foes. Pathological fear of crows. Knave of Hearts (also known as the Jack of Hearts) - A master thief, with a reputation for romantic deviltry (sometimes you just can't beat the archetype). Queen of Hearts - An insane murderer and psychopath, but with a commanding presence. Wields a rod that can deliver a variety of power blasts. She is accompanied by her card soldiers/henchmen. The White Rabbit - This speedster is always in a rush to go somewhere, but is often easily confused. Also possesses ability to shrink to a mere fraction of his original size. The Caterpillar - A bizarre oracle like being, capable of inducing incredible shrinking and growth size changes in others using his mushrooms. Perhaps has some gas based NND attacks from his hookah. The March Hare - A madcap serial rapist villain. Despicable to the core and loony beyond compare. (Why a rapist? It comes from the roots of the phrase "Mad as a March hare") The Mad Hatter - It's just not a party without this insane criminal genius. A mentalist capable of projecting maddening illusions and causing vertigo like effects. Obsessed with time and time themed villains and heroes. The Duchess - A female brick of noble birth but with repugnant features who suffers from a multiple personality disorder causing her to alternate between kindly gestures and vicious, brutish attacks. I'm just a fan of Storn's artwork, and I've stock piled it so I can eventually make some HeroClix mods for the characters, and I use the illustrations when I GM campaigns. And yes Lord Liaden, please feel free to add comments with the character names! I haven't bothered since I recognize nearly all of them. I'll create a web album for my Storn Cook art collection too and can post a link for it later. It's essentially all of the images he's uploaded to his art thread here on the boards.

Care to try any of these in your Christmas spirit? In my campaign, Wonderland is a real dimension accessible through various means from ours.   22. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Is strength a requirement for a Brick? I always consider a brick someone with high natural defenses, which I thought Jabberrock had (60 CON???). I'll have to go back and check his stats and write up again as I'm obviously off the mark. I only really remember the character for his connections to Prof. Pomegranate and because the name was so close to the character I made.

For those that are interested, Jabberwock is a brick that I built way back in 1st edition and who has shown up in a few different campaigns over the years, so when DT offered to do one of the Dark Wonderland ideas as a commission, he was easily my first pick (thanks again DT!!!!!). I've got a character sheet and hero file if anyone wants to see the stats to go with the concept. His powers are obviously based on the fictional Lewis Caroll character from the poem Jabberwocky. JABBERWOCKY Lewis Carroll (from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872) `Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. "Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!" He took his vorpal sword in hand: Long time the manxome foe he sought -- So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood awhile in thought. And, as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came! One, two! One, two!
