  1. Re: Suggestions need: Animal super villains

A supergenius lab mouse with extreme megalomania.

With an idiot sidekick who keeps messing up his plans to conquer the world.

Or have you heard that one before?

I always thought that the mice were aliens - so it's not really an animal with powers, as opposed to a galactic superbeing, intruding onto our dimension.

You could modify the background to the Mighty Wom-BOT, and make him a cybernetic wombat.

    A kleptomaniac raccoon.

An assassin based off a walking stick, or some other variety of camouflaged insect.

A sloth? - SPD 1, but when he finally attacks, you really don't want to be the target.

A giant (well, bigger than normal) hagfish, able to breathe air and teleport

A star-nosed mole. Or any mole. It's been done to death though. . .

An aye-aye (seen here). Make him bigger, and you have an ugly nocturnal primate that behaves kind of like a woodpecker.

And, because it's just strange, and ugly, the blobfish.

  2. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game

    lmao. :D That's great!

Regarding the Scions, my vote would be something like Forum + wiki + email list. I'm not big on Facebook and such like, the user interfaces seem terrible. I'm open to having my mind changed....

Hopefully the name is good enough for an invite to the SG. ;) If ya see me, invite me.

(My global is @Yossarian, if anyone ever wants to look me up. My main toons are on Infinity, but Dr. Cuisinart is going to see play a couple times a week, I think.)

  3. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game

Finally created a toon on Champion - a Scrapper (yeah, had to try the Dual Blades and WP sets) named Dr. Cuisinart.

Blades do seem fun so far, though it has been a long time since I played a Scrapper, so the sheer joy of not having to run all the time (Blaster) or taking forever to kill things ('troller) might be part of it.

  4. Re: Wild Card's Hero

Easiest way is to just give him Armor' date=' hardened, possibly with the "visible" limitation. It may have the SFX of "Force Field", but it has none of the mechanical disadvantages of the power "Force Field".[/quote']

True. And although there is reference in the books to it "fading", I don't know that the field every actually goes away. (IIRC, GB says that after a few hours of the military testing his powers, bullets began to actually hurt, though I read that as painful, but not doing actual damage)

  5. Re: Wild Card's Hero

Per the CU' date=' very few jokers and the like have DF.[/quote']

I'd say that he is no less distinctive than Father Squid. Perhaps remove Distinctive Features on all jokers?

Hammer doesn't have one level of DI as the 'proper' way to build always heavy characters is via powers and the like.

Doh. I had skimmed over that part in Ultimate Metamorph in the last week, too.

GB doesn't have KB resistance as he could be knocked off his feet by a car. However, he can use his 54 STR to dig in and resist it that way.

Fair enough. I was thinking that he should only have about 2-3", with HH having something like 6" of KB resistance.

  6. Re: Wild Card's Hero

I'm sure I'm remembering this wrong' date=' but wasn't Golden Boys golden glow always on, and prevented him from eating and such, or was that just the very beginning of when the power manifested?[/quote']

Nope. It comes on automatically, but he never mentions a problem with it interfering with anything. (The field apparently judges intent as well - he can shake hands or interact normally with women, but try shooting him in the back, and it snaps on before the bullet can hit him.)

  7. Re: Wild Card's Hero

Thoughts - Dr Finn doesn't have distinctive features?

I would have thought that Harlem Hammer would have 1 level of DI, Always On, etc. I'd probably give him a bit more knockback resistance.

Golden Boy should probably have a couple points in knockback resistance as well. Not much, since he can still go flying, but enough to generally keep him on his feet. (Or, alternatively, about 3" less than what HH has).

Looks good though. Rename a few, and they drop into Champs very nicely.

  8. Re: Wild Card's Hero

If I recall' date=' it's 90% death rate. If you live, it's 90% joker, 9% deuce, 1% ace. However, some jokers are "joker-aces."[/quote']

I'm trying to find a more solid reference, but I recall it being fatal 90% of the time, 9% of the time, you draw the joker*, and the remaining 1% are (a) not deformed, and (B) gain some power. That last 1% includes both aces and deuces, with deuces being far more prominent.

    * There are jokers who are almost aces - Troll (the guard at the Jokertown clinic) would be an ace, were it not for his appearance. And likewise, Peregrine is technically a joker/ace - though the angelic wings aren't considered a "deformity" because they are aesthetically pleasing, they are not functional; she flies via a form a telekinesis.

  9. Re: Order of the Stick

All right' date=' how many think Elan's eyepatch is for fashion purposes and not for an actual lost eye?[/quote']

(With apologies to The Princess Bride)

Random NPC: Why do you wear an eyepatch? Did you lose an eye, or something like that?

Elan: Oh no, it's just that they're terribly fashionable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future.

  10. Re: Wild Card's Hero

    Susano,

Are you going to be making/posting Jack "Golden Boy" Braun? He was always one of my favorites and I'd be interested in seeing how you build his force field since hero system doesn't have a true invulnerability power.

But he's not really invulnerable. IIRC, he doesn't get shot with anything bigger than 20mm shells. (In fact, he says "They were scared to try anything bigger than a 20mm on their tests. So was I. If I were hit with a real cannon, instead of just a big machine gun, I'd probably be oatmeal.") So a sufficiently high Force Field and/or Damage Reduction should work.

  11. Re: Order of the Stick

    Matt "THAT'S-IT!-We're-playing-Bunnies-and-Burrows-from-now-on!-You're-playing-a-bunch-of-freaking-RABBITS!" Frisbee

That doesn't necessarily solve the problem:

Igor: Okay, you may notice that this character is a bit more powerful than most. But by deftly taking a series of minor quirks, disadvantages and hindrances, I was able to raise my point total by five hundred percent.

Which allowed me to create Deathgrippe, the cybrog-assassin, with infra-red vision, lightning-fast reflexes and a massive tech level 15 plasma rifle!!

He's also got personal body armor, super strong synth skin and laser-like marksmanship, as well as concussion bombs, hyper nunchaku, the "Killer Grip" skill and Wang-Chung evil eye!

This character may seem a bit extreme and may be a bit superhuman, but it is going by the rules, if you know how to tweak them, caress them and play them juuuuuust right!

Matt: Considering we're playing "Bunnies and Burrows," I'm impressed. . .

Igor: Oopsie! I forgot to draw in the rabbit ears. And the thermonuclear grenade launcher.

    (From Dork Tower #5)

  12. Re: Wild Card's Hero

Hmm.... I do mention this in his write-up' date=' but it might be worth a -0 Limitation. It also sounds like he can regrow lost limbs. I know Demise can, as he started to regrow his head after it was lopped off by someone.[/quote']

Yeah, Mackie Messer cuts off Demise's head, and Demise kills him afterwards (in Ace in the Hole). In the aftermath of that whole affair, Tachy goes down to the morgue, where he is shown that Demise's corpse appears to be growing a new head, as well as healing other damage. The doc snips off a piece of errant rib bone, and I've always wondered what happened to that. Presumably it was cremated along with the rest of the body (per Tachy's instructions), but you never know. . .

I'm not sure if Carnifex can regrow limbs, but he does appear to regenerate the fingers he loses in his fight with Messer. Someone calls attention to it in Dealer's Choice.

  13. Re: Wild Card's Hero

Cool... I've certainly considered doing this myself... is the official month February' date=' or am I just making stuff up in my brain parts again?[/quote']

The official month is November. Feb or March is NaNoEdMo (the unofficial editing month).

Found a reference for Carnifex's regeneration:

    (Wild Cards XI, Dealer's Choice)

The fight with Messer had cut off half of Ray's lower jaw. It had grown back unevenly, giving him a lopsided look that would've been comical if it weren't so damn ugly.

  14. Re: Wild Card's Hero

Hey' date=' what's that interesting word-counting widget that lives in your Sig file?[/quote']

It's from last years NaNoWriMo contest. It was supposed to auto-update, but was kinda wonky. At midnight tonight, I'll have to reset it to 0, and start again.

  15. Re: Wild Card's Hero

Description: Carnifex is of average height, standing 5'10" and weighing about 165 lbs. His face is a little off; the eyes aren't level, his jaw is canted, there is too much nose, and his chin is lacking a bit. His costume consists of a white body suit with a black hood, gloves, and boots. Carnifex's Ace powers include increased strength, speed, and the ability to regenerate from massive amounts of damage. Carnifex is also a master of hand to hand combat; although he hasn't studied any formal martial art, he just knows what move to make when he needs to make it. Thus, Carnifex's martial maneuvers function both as punches and kicks.

I've have to look for the reference, but I recall that Carnifex's regeneration isn't concerned with the aesthetics, hence the mismatched features. Maybe list it as a -0 mod to the Rapid Healing?

  16. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

I can't believe people are taking time to wight these terrible puns. It's like your end ghoul is to make us all aghast. But you haven't a ghost of a chance.

And if you start getting close, look out... It's possible one of the bricks could show up with a few wabbit punches and a wight cross. (Or a cross wight, for that matter.)

Well, if you specter make my heart wraith with puns like that, you need to do a shade better. Certainly mohrg than that, anyway.

  17. Re: Disturbing Character premises...

Years ago, I ran an ogre in a Runequest game. In the Runequest game, Ogres appear just like normal people, albeit rather gifted ones, tending toward higher strength, more intelligent, better-looking, etc. The problem, however, is that the food source for Ogres is the flesh of intelligent humanoids. . .

As long as we kept hitting towns, the other players were safe. But they never did put two and two together and wonder why when we hit a new town, my character did some "errands" and some people disappeared.

He would have killed the other party members in their sleep, but reasoned that keeping them alive made sense, since (1) there is safety in numbers when adventuring; and (2) no sense in carrying his emergency rations when it so obligingly walked around on its own.

Here's another one - immortal man, living in an isolated fortress, enslaving an army of errily merry midgets, who spies on innocent children, and rewards those whose behavoir he deems "good" with gifts and sweets. What's worse, he visits their houses in the dead of night, and no lock nor door will bar his way.

  18. Re: Just for fun... a Campaign Ad!

"Side Effects MAY include..." I hope you aren't going to have a hallucinating, overconfident hyper-strong pyro/cryokinetic lifting their leg and pissing on the wall every two minutes... ;)

Well shoot, there goes my next character concept. . . .

  19. Re: Worth his weight in Diamond

A fairly brief search shows that diamonds have an average specific gravity of about 3.5. IIRC, a human has a specific gravity of about 1.0 (with some variety, since some people float better than others). So, you would probably figure about 350 kilos for a human-sized chunk of diamond.

  20. Re: Muppet Champions

Ahh I thought I saw adults interacting with him once' date=' but didn't know it was made "official". I outgrew the show years earlier.[/quote']

My youngest sister was a "caboose" (12 years younger than me), so she was watching it about that time. Wiki helped confirm the date, but I recalled him interacting with the regular human cast when she watched it.

In another year or so, I'll be watching it again, since my son is almost to that age. At least it will be a step up from WonderPets.

  21. Re: Muppet Champions

Would Mr.Snuffalopagus (sp) get the "Crew Required" disadvantage? I'd give him the DNPC Big Bird since he's an imaginary friend so need BB to exist and some hefty invisibility.

Snuffy hasn't been an imaginary friend since '85. The producers of Sesame Street were worried about the message he might be inadvertantly sending (that if an adult doesn't see it, it never happened) in the wake of some sex abuse scandals. So, in '85, the adults finally met Snuffy, proving that he is indeed, real.

He would, however, have the "Disappearing Act" skill from Dark Champions.

  22. Re: Muppet Champions

The Muppet Registration Act was initiated by Sam the Eagle' date=' but it never would have passed without the evil genius of... Dr. Teeth![/quote']

Nah, Sam is too close to being Captain America in mindset. It would take someone with a "Yes sir" mentality, someone likeable. Like Scooter.

No one mentioned statting up Sweetums yet.

    "Jack not name, jack job!"

Gonzo should have Rizzo as a sidekick, too, and Camilla as a DNPC.

  23. Re: Need Some Latin Blessings

Here is a listing of some common Latin prayers:

http://www.thesacredheart.com/latpray.htm (with English translation beside them)

And, for more than you will ever need:

    http://www.preces-latinae.org/Titulus.html (also with English translations)

One slight note - Ecclesiastical Latin and classic Latin have some very different pronunciations. If I am not careful, I send Christmas carols (like Adeste Fideles) in classic pronunciation, which would be a problem if I were in a small group.
