  1. Re: Master List of Limitations Gone??!!

Once we have stuff, we could divvy out the stuff, so that many people would create the disads. If 10 people do it, or 20, it will take much, much less time.

Sounds like a plan we should start on!

I'd be in on that, but I'm stil stuck with HD2. I'm planning on upgrading soon, probably before the end of the year.

Actually, I might be updating before the end of the month. And since NaNoWriMo ends on Nov 30, I'll have lots of free time begining Dec 1.

  2. Re: Secret IDs: In or Out?

Just to play a little devil advocate here but with that logic should the police also be masked to protect their loved ones against retribution? How about the judge that sentences the criminal' date=' isn't he and his family also in danger of retribution by this villain? Should all judges also be masked? Or is hiding behind a mask or a symbol just a way to avoid full responsibility for being a crime fighter?[/quote']

No, police, judges, et al need not be masked. One of the tropes of the superhero genre is that the police are, in general, helpless when confronted with superpowered villains. Sure, Warlord could go after the baliff at the trial, the judge, the jury, the cops at the precinct house, but there is no point - it's not even a worthwhile revenge, because they can't put up a decent fight. And besides, once those pesky heroes are out of the way, if the villain is still looking for revenge, they can hunt down the cops later.

Edit - left thought a bit incomplete: Supervillains are not targeting the DNPCs because they are looking for random victims; they target the DNPCs because they know it will bring Hero X running into the trap. If you know that Hero G always responds to ecological devastation, you cause a massive oil spill. If you know that Hero X will come to save his infirm uncle, you kidnap Uncle Wheels.

  3. Re: PCs are not the most important in the world

The new group invariably is either slightly corrupt, doesnt work together well (leading to catastrophic failures), or is revealed to have some serious flaw - Illuminating the strengths of the PC group.

You know, up until you mention this as illuminating the strengths of the PC group, I thought were talking about the PC group. ;)

  4. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

It's not from a game session, but we're working on character ideas for a new campaign (a Galactic Champs game)

GM (on discussing Public IDs): The only thing is that when you go into an area controlled by the Big Baddie, you'll be essentially marching up to the front gate, flag proudly waving, and ringing the doorbell without learning anything about how he operates, what resources he has, what he can do, etc.

Me: And that would be different from our normal modus operandi how, exactly? I mean, I think we have proved that our normal MO is "break in, break things, make a huge mess, and think about it sometime next Tuesday." I don't see us behaving much differently in a CHamps 3K game.

  5. Re: Rationalize this....

Have they considered building the suit into a tuxedo?

No, because that would be just silly. You might as well claim that a chef can fight off multiple attackers who are after him due to a mislabelled VHS tape. ;)

  6. Re: Rocket-propelled Chainsaw

    . . . No Real Weapon (1/4)? :D

My reality meter broke when I tried putting the phrases "Rocket-propelled chainsaw" and "Real Weapon" together. :D

I think y'all are trying to lower the cost, just so you can get more of them for your army of goons. . . not that there is anythng wrong with that.

  7. Re: Rocket-propelled Chainsaw

    Yeah' date=' my error. I should've written "+100", not just "100".[/quote']

I thought about that after I posted. Just think, a couple hundred points, and you could have an army of goons, all armed with rocket-propelled chainsaws.

  8. Re: Rocket-propelled Chainsaw

    Maybe something like this?

    Killing Attack - Ranged 3d6, +2 Increased STUN Multiplier (+1/2) (67 Active Points); 2 clips of 1 Charge (Increased Reloading Time; -1 3/4), Real Weapon (-1/4), Inaccurate 1/2 OCV (-1/4), Reduced Penetration (-1/4), Limited Range (15"; -1/4), 18 points

  9. Re: A Question for the Super-Tech designers amongst us

Make the guy playing Providence cough up the two points. It was a silly thing to leave off.

I agree with that. Unless the character has suffered from the cold in the past, it's simply a case of "I've never been bothered by the cold. I am, after all, an angel."

If the PC has suffered the effects of extreme cold in the past, then yeah, you'd need some sort of gadget to keep Providence warm. Otherwise, pay the 2 pts and handwave it.

  10. Re: Would you play…

This sounds a lot like Villains and Vigilantes.

Sounds fine for a one-shot or a convention game.

Other than that, not so much. I'd rather make a character I wanted to play.

Actually, it sounds a lot like the whole Wild Cards universe. I can see the appeal of it, if you could tell the GM "I hate Bricks, but like Energy Projectors and Martial Artists. Anything along those lines is okay" and if you had the right group/GM.

  11. Re: Order of the Stick

The third' date=' No Cure For The Paladin Blues, is off pre-order status and can be delivered to your doorstep.

And, they did make sure to mention that "[Y]es, the book contains a complete translation for all of Haley's cryptograms."

I'll have to pick it up. I need to pick up all the KOTD Bundles of Trouble too - I want to reread some of the early stories, without risking damage to my collection.

  12. Re: New VA campaign throws up need for 'unusual' weapon rules

Isn't there something about entangling weapons in Ninja Hero?

If memory serves it was something that allowed ranged grabs. Really nasty with some penalty skill levels.

There is, but the only one which might apply would be to modify the Entagling Sleeves example (basically, an EC with Entangle, Teke and Stretching).

I'd probably go along that route. The whole thing is an OAF with Limited Range, the Entangle might be Beam, No Barriers, and Concentration (the latter to reflect the fact that you have to maintain a pull on the lasso to keep the target entangled).
