Here's a funny moment… This thread was started 8 years ago. The game I ran was super well received and bolstered my Epic City game to the point that it has yet to falter. Funny enough we've come full circle...
The original game was a con adventure. Now, as part of the ongoing campaign, we've finally come to the point that the Walking Gods module fits the campaign perfectly! So, this thread is, once again, totally relevant to my Epic City campaign!!!
What a surprise to see it at the top of my content list. It was like it knew. -
It's hard to believe this stuff is over 7 years old!

Thanks!

Are all the pics and pdfs that were once attached to this thread gone forever?

I like him!
We've actually had a character named Doughboy in Epic City for over a decade now. He's very similar to yours in that he is a WWI themed character. However, his history goes much farther back; he's something of an eternal avatar of war who shows just as the big conflict is about to commence. He can shapeshift his arms into weapons that reflect the most recent technological advances (kind of like Guy Gardner's Warrior = http://images.wikia.com/marvel_dc/images/2/21/Guy_Gardner_Warrior_04.jpg) and, though he may be defeated or even killed in battle, he is immortal and will reappear to herald in the next conflict like an omen of war to come.

Honestly, the JLA version of Batman is significantly more powerful than his portrayal in Detective.I personally dislike weaknesses and even Focus limitaitons immensely. I think the source material does not properly dispalys them in group adventures. And I never make Solo Heroes, so I try to avoid those like the pest-I recently noticed that established heroes have two varriants of protrayal:
The Solo Act
The Group Hero
In Solo Mode the character is significantly more powerfull. If he is a gadget using hero, he has tools for everything. Ironman literally makes Role Specific armor (like the Hulkbuster, Stealth Armor) as rich pieople buy clothing for a dinner.
In Group mode he is toned down a lot. Iron Man in Avengers-Cartoon (2 26-Episode Seasons) barely used one alterantive amor. And it was the Arctic Armor, not a Role Armor. The same way Superman - while being an acomplished reporter and thus detective in his own Comic - relents the Role of Detective to Batman once they team up.
Why do I tell this? Because the only reason Kryptonite and Red Sun Weakness exists is because Superman in his own series got too powerfull for normal Humans to Challenge him.
That isn't so much true in Group Advnetures. There are much more villains to draw from, some of them using Mental Attacks and the heroes powers is "lowered down" significantly.
Also, lately the "need" for Kryptonite in stories was reduced thanks to the advent of Power Armor. Lex Luthor got his Kryptonian Tech Battle Armor simply because Kryptonite was being overused. And unlike the first days, giant piloted Robots and Power Armors are nowadays a valid plot device to even the terms (is there one Superman/Batman fight where the Bat was not wearing his Power Armor all the time, but saves the Kryptonite till the end - if at all?)
In group series the Kryptonite weakness almost completely vanishes. In the entire JL/JLU Animated Series run Kryptonite and Red Suns were used:
Once to fake Lex Luthor into a sense of security (so he confessed a crime) by letting the Martian Manhunter impersoante Superman. (Used as an advantage)
Once to against Amazo, but he later adapted and used it against Superman (so more of a tie)
Once in the Amazo Returns Story, just to show "Lex Luthors Bunker defenses are prepared for anything". Cara just dusted of her costume and was good to join the Air Defenses.
Once as plot device in the "Inner Earth" Story, also a "Supergirl without powers" Story. Here the weakness was conveniently removed/drained by the red sun in the earth (wich also drained her powers).
Once in the Death of Superman Storyline (part 2), wich for all intents was a Soloadventure for Superman. He got better once he found the Mc Guffin.
I hope I didn't miss a protrayal, but it think it is hard to dismiss when I say:
Kryptonite & Red Sun weakness might have played a mayor role in Earlier and Solo adventures. But one you enter Group Mode it becomes an informed (dis)ability at best. These portrayals don't seem remotely like what "Complication" is meant to represent.

PHENOM's powers are derived from a nanite infusion and nanite constructed suit. While it may seem a bit contrived, a powerful enough EMP can effectively stun his nanites rendering him powerless for a short while (luckily, no villain has figured this out... yet).

Wow, after decades of play I have villains of all different stripes; from costume hunters called ATOM OMEGA (http://ghentart.deviantart.com/art/AtomOmega-394573285?ga_submit_new=10%253A1376975738) who murder heroes or villains indiscriminately to the New Reich ( ) who like all evil Nazis work to install a new world order. I have city-wide criminal undergrounds and information brokers, monsters and those simply bent on mayhem.
Look here for a lot about my game and resources maybe you could use in your own:

Wow! I have the '78 book! Loved, loved, loved it as a kid and still use it in my game!

Power Skill Roll?Best bits:Alien Commando's character sheet is very short on cultural and campaign items. He knows nobody, knows almost nothing, has no job or other connections,
so when we were trying to nail down where he might be during any given weekday, he claimed he was living on Doc Decibel's couch, eating his food
and watching his cable to learn Earth culture.
And, the player was not specific about which alien race he was, so I picked Korbinite (Beta Ray Bill) which will make for some interesting fodder later on.
Also, his attempt to flip the APC over botched, so I ruled that his unluck made the bumper snap off and fly out of his hands.
Speed Freek broke an agent's neck and had to waste 5 phases running him down to the hospital, 12 miles away.
Mister Foot would not enter combat. I had no explanation or plausible reaction to that as a GM.
If the Redeemer is not careful, his summoned villains may fight more sharply than he might wish.
but I guess it was interesting role-play
I'm allowing players to use their action points for one-off power stunts, such as making electrical blast into chained lightning, blowing up
an items to spread out damage, etc.

Thanks! Saw it, but really wanted the book! I may go back and purchase the HD files if there are too many things I need to reprint on character sheets.
I tend to do lots of handouts and often add or subtract stuff enough to necessitate original write-ups.

In the previous post (#35) I'm getting little blue boxes with question marks, but clicking on them still leads to the pdfs I linked...
However, in post #34 I get 1 question mark and 3 letters "a". The question mark still leads to a pdf but the letter "a" links lead to blank pages...
What gives?

Thanks! I'll check it out.

Here are some of the new rules packets for our TGU game!
As with most everything else I post these are a combination of original rules and existing rules culled from many other existing games, including art found on the internet. This stuff is purely for FUN and should NOT be distributed with any other intent.
NOTE: These have not been properly edited. I'm aware of some pretty glaring spelling and grammar problems. Try to enjoy them regardless of my ineptitudes.

EPIC CITY! (Campaign Art & Collateral Material)

The site's looking much better these days and I see some old friends have returned (or are still here). I think I'll be back more often...
Should I redo this thread. I used to really like to have it as a repository for my campaign (along with the NEMESIS thread in the Sci-Fi section), and folks seemed to like downloading my source material. But it'll be a lot of work… Is it worth it to start again???
