  1. And given the low prevalence among humans it seems impractical to test a million of them to identify a single Bright.
  2. Agreed. The real differences are skills, attributes and resources (Ward being higher skills vs attributes and Jakoby having higher attributes vs skills - probably B-C/C-B). Resources are pretty low for both, although Ward spent the crappy 40k nuyen for a lower class (gangster neighbors, faerie infestation) mid size residence so maybe not? Edit: unless Ward is an Adept, in which case all bets are off...
  3. Fans in the stands, and eyes on the screen. Simple business decision by the Independence Bowl. But let's not pretend it's anything else or that they are somehow "worthy" of participating. I'd be embarrassed, were I a Seminoles fan.

  5. Yeah, I doubt he's even in the sequel.
  6. Yeah, I liked the undefined elements they threw in. Lots to speculate about, dragons, faeries, dwarves and centaurs confirmed. Magic is a thing, but rare and lots still not known about it. The Dark Lord corresponded chronologically to Jesus, approximately. 2000 years ago. Makes me wonder about a bunch of stuff. They already green lit a sequel, so we will find out more eventually.
  7. I agree, was glad they weren't so heavy handed I couldn't enjoy the story. Was a fun popcorn movie.
  8. Pretty damn otherworldly, actually. But you need to get to the end to find out that part. There seemed to me to be a class/race analogy, but they didn't beat it to death with a rock in my opinion. Elves are the elite, rich folks. Humans are the majority. Orcs are the underclass. There's references to a historical conflict, thousands of years ago. But mostly it's an LAPD action movie. I really enjoyed it.
  9. So I just watched Bright on Netflix. Saw that critics panned it. Rotten Tomatoes score in the 30% range... I don't get it at all. Really liked it a lot. One of the more interesting movies I've seen this year. Highly recommend it, was a really entertaining genre mash up and reminded me of Shadowrun in a lot of ways. I'd very much enjoy additional Netflix material in this vein. Would watch again (and probably will this weekend).
  10. Yeah, the Southern California fires burn on. As noted in the article, despite the scale they are resulting in less property destruction and loss of life than the October north Bay Area fires (Napa/Sonoma). Been a rough year.
  11. http://sfgov.org/scorecards/poverty-san-francisco San Francisco has a pretty first rate set of social programs. There are a lot of factors they're challenged by in achieving the outcomes they want - not least of which is the cost of housing in that city.
  12. I'll give you a hint. If you are interacting with the impoverished masses who post on this board, you aren't on the winning side.
  13. Double post. No need to be parsimonious, war on poverty is over.
  14. Up next, we reaffirm our commitment to the War on Drugs. Not the War on Poverty though, we are throwing in the towel on that one and hoping for 2 out of 3. Or maybe 1 out of 3... Or you know, 0 out of 3.
  15. At best, the timing is extremely suspect and looks utterly indefensible. At worst it's a direct attack on the justice system to discredit legitimate accusations in advance of public disclosure. The FBI is an independent, nonpartisan entity. They've prosecuted members of both political parties. All the folks chanting "lock her up" can take comfort in equal treatment under the law.
  16. No doubt that would be a reasonable first step I absolutely support. Harder than it sounds though, as the individuals tasked with drawing districts are inherently opposed to such change. Still, nobody promised democracy was easy... There are more than a couple other logical items that enjoy broad support which are equally impacted by this phenomenon. Right now we are very divided as a nation. While our shared beliefs continue to outweigh our differences, a major urban vs rural divide has been expanded by a focus on divisive near-tribal political affiliations. Makes everything harder when it is "us against them" as opposed to "one nation indivisable"... but the ideological separation is real. And the disagreement around issues as fundamental as the role of government is sharp. I hope we work this out. And will continue to participate in the process in line with that hope.
  17. Ahem. In fact "we" all didn't, but yes he was elected. He is the POTUS. I just don't particularly care for that fact, and look forward to the end of his term. And the inevitable "deconstruction of everything Donald Trump accomplished" to parallel his efforts re: Obama. Essentially, I foresee a cycle of this barring some unusual change in direction for the nation. Both ideological positions being espoused are antithetical to the opposing one. Compromise is presently not an option.
  18. Institutional disobedience isn't a relevant term when applied broadly to state and local government in relation to the Federal government. Neither state nor local governments have any direct responsibility to obey "directions" from the Federal in a "chain of command". That's not how our system of government works. I work in local government, I do not work for the Federal (or even state) government. If given a direction by the executive branch, I'd laugh and refer them to our counsel. But I wouldn't "obey" it under this administration or the previous one. That's not how any of this works. Jurisdictions and authority are limited. Courts can expand or restrict authority. Contracts between parties define roles (such as County contracts with the State, and State contracts with the Fed - Medicaid is a great example of this from County to DHCS to HHS). Everyone should take a breath.
  19. It's the Ghost Bear run done as horror. I'm not feeling it, but see why they thought it was a thing.
  20. Exactly this. Who cares. Go ahead and prosecute if you've got the evidence. So, back to that whole Russia/emoulments/false-equivalency for Naziism/so many other items they are all starting to blend together for the guy actually in office right now.... Edit: here's a link to the Wikipedia entry for "Trump controversies 2017" currently clocking at 36 pages. I can't even reasonably list them anymore, so just providing a link. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Trump_administration_controversies By comparison "Obama controversies" with no time limit is 51 pages. Donald Trump is doing work. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Obama_administration_controversies
