  1. Anyone remember the old Shift Spirit power in 2nd or 3rd edition? 1D6 for 20 pts I think it was? How does the newer systems duplicate this? I have a PC that can astrally project and I can't find a good way to build it. I really like the old way. Clairsentience isn't the same, duplication is way to expensive, and nothing else comes close. Any ideas?
  2. I'm trying to build a spell for a character and I just can't seem to figure it out. The player wants to cast a spell on any person. The spell is a damage shield, I'm thinking 1/2 D6. The spell only last about 5 minutes. Once its been cast on a target the caster can leave the target and the target still has the benefits of the spell. I see I need usable by others at range simultaneously o end persistant (no LOS). The problem I'm running into is how to make this spell last a timed duration of 5 minutes without using continuing charges... He wants to be able to cast the spell over and over again for a group of 8. Say the group gets in two fights, for all to have the buff that would be 16 charges lasting 5 minutes which is another +1 advantage. Anyone see a better way? Thanks for your suggestions?
  3. Re: Usable As Attack power question He wants to be able to injure himself in any way and have the damage go to the target. Thats alot of attacks to build lol. He's not an experienced player so i don't want to give him a pool to manipulte... But your idea is good. Gonna have to read up on the IPE, didn't think of that.
  4. I have a player that wants a power that simulates damaging himself and manifesting that damage or the attack, on other targets. Basically he wants a 2D6 KA that he uses on himself in a variable form, knife, gun, brick, whatever he has available, and the damage is applied to his true target. Since its his "power" he doesn't take much of the real damage. So I was going to give him 3/4 DMG RED Res PD (Only vs. that power -2). But how do I build the power that he uses "on himself," that his targets take the damage? 2D6 KA (Self Only -1/2, Usable as Attack +1, Ranged+1/2, Variable Special Effects +1/4) What ya'll think? Does that work? I don't think so, thats why I'm asking for help.
  5. Anyone know the ranking names for the organization?
  6. Re: Always On Limitation: I need a Variant Thanks guys I appreciate the feedback
  7. Most Adjustment powers when turned on give a return of 5 active points per turn. What I need is that same effect but placed on powers like Growth and Density Increase. One of my players has a character with 25pts of Density Increase that is O END/Persistant. However he can't just turn off the power at a moments notice, it goes away at 5 active points per turn just like the Adjustment powers. Now I could only relate this to Always On limitation which is -1/2. So I figured if it was a delayed turn off it would only be worth a -1/4. Whatcha think? PS: For clarity turning on the power is instant like normal, not a gradual build up.
  8. Had an idea for a different kind of power framework. Its already in my campaign and I like the way it works so I'm not looking to see if its impossible to do with the system. I just want to know what others think and if it is wrong a way to build it with the hero system. Here goes: The character in question has a 240 pt Magic pool, 48 Control Pool (requires spellbook -1/2, KS: Magic Roll -1/2, only change at base -1/2) Now the character has a set of abilities he wants to use to enhance his pool. So I built it as this: 32 EC:Archmage Training (Can only use with spell pool -1/2) 32 A. Master of Elements END 6 Apply Variable Special Effects +1/2 on any spell in pool up to 240 active points. (Cost 1/2 End -1/4) 32 B. Master of Shaping END 6 Make any AE spell selective +1/4 and/or hole in middle +1/4 up to 240 active points (Cost 1/2 End -1/4) 32 C. Innate Spell END 6 Remove skill roll/gestures/ and incantations on spells up to 240 active points (cost 1/2 End -1/4) 32 D. Multi Spell END 6 Make any Spell Autofire 5 +1/2 up to 240 Active Points (cost 1/2 End -1/4) 48 E. Arcane Reach END 18 No range penalty +1/2 and/or Increased Maximum Range +1/4 (Cost End -1/2) 32 F. Delay Spell END 6 Make any spell variable trigger +1/2 up to 240 active points (cost 1/2 End -1/4) Each facet isn't really a power, its an advantage that will tack on any spell he is currently casting from his pool, up to the maximum of the pool (240 Active Points). Now this is the advanced high high level of the training. I have a PC with some of the abilities and its only a 11 pt EC. So is it legal? built wrong? or do you like? Your thoughts please
  9. Re: Building Powers based of skill? Thanks for the replies, other trains of thought clarified my dilema. He can do it with any weapon he knows how to wield, so I made it -1/2 limitation.
  10. Re: Building Powers based of skill? Sorry steve i'm old school, dont have the new stuff. Got 4th Ed. books mainly, martial artists, mentalist, core book, horror hero, dark champions and eye for eye.
  11. I'm building a multipower for a skilled fighter. One facet is a damage shield, another is a parry, and a third is a 1" Radius AE attack. Now these powers he can only do if he has a weapon, like his sword in his hand. He has already payed for the sword focus and its abilities, but the Multipower itself isn't a focus, its just skill. It only requires a focus to use the multipower. I gave this a -1/2 limitation "Weapon focus required". Would this be the proper way to build such abilities. Thanks in advance.
  12. Re: Need Help: Attacking through Images its not duplication its images. Vs sight, sound, touch, danger sense, spatial awareness, detect magic and mental. Most viewers will sense he's real.
  13. Re: Need Help: Attacking through Images Remember Lem, images isn't fool proof, viewers get to make a perception roll to tell if its real. ANd since the images will be speaking fighting, jumping around and moving there are big modifiers to viewers perception rolls. But yeah I built it like I had originaly thought it should be built and the EC costed 199 pts and the multipower 61pts. Looks real good. Thoug I only have 3 attacks in the multipower, would like another if anyone has some suggestions. Got an HKA "sword", RKA "Throwing star", and a Transfer Body to End/stun "Soul Leech". You have 69pts to work with for the multipower pool.
  14. Re: Need Help: Attacking through Images It cost endurance, it requires a skill roll activation and time. Its not a gm character its a player concept that doesn't know much about champions. Its his idea and I'm not gonna penalize him for being creative. A good GM can overcome any player power.
  15. I have a ninja sorceror that wants to manifest Images of himself, and use his powers through them. I know that means the powers he uses need to be Indirect +3/4. Say for example he has a 2D6 HKA, in the form of a sword but the image uses it; its not a focus. A 1D6 RKA AP +1/2 and can use str dmg +1/2 in the form of a shuriken or throwing dagger; same thing its used by the image and not a focus. Then say he has a Missle Deflection for thrown objects and arrows and projectiles that he wants to use with the image. Would I put the indirect advantage on it or just use the +1 advantage deflect at range. I see building the image/invisibility powers in the elemental control. Then the multipower with the attacks that can only be used through the images. I also will need to buy senses usuable through the images so he can see what he's attacking and sense his surroundings. Any help is much appreciated it. And no I don't want to use Duplication, thats way to expensive.
  16. Re: Timestop stops everthing in a given radius. Only the caster can move about but he can't affect other people in the area affect because he's in a different time stream. Want to simulate the effect of a 9th level D&D timestop. Dont think I can build it the way I want in champions; I'll just make it scenery.
  17. Re: How would you build this yeah trigger can work; didn't think about that. But damage shield can only be on a continous power? that a 5th ED thing? My book says nothing of the sort :/. /sigh I need to get a 5thED book with a quickness.
  18. Re: Timestop whats mega-scaled? I saw it in another post for an area affect power? They remove the AE modifiers in 5th?
  19. Re: How would you build this I didn't want to read through but first post said you didn't want the mentalist to know the target has defenses, so in effect he doesn't understand why his powers aren't working and eventually make him think they are working when they aren't. Make your brick's Mental Defense IPE mental +1/2. The mentalist wont feel the resistance. Next have a Mind Control dmg shield, with set command, "attacker believes his attack had full effect."
  20. Is there a power in 5th ED that can duplicate the power of stopping time. The best thing I can come up with in my 4th ED book is a HUGE boost to speed. Like bending the rules for a powerful NPC and giving him a 24 speed. He'll go on his dex value on the chart and at the end of the segment after everyone else also to simulate a different time stream.
  21. Re: Blizards, Hurricanes, and Heat Waves TK for force effects, Darkness vs sight/sound for heavy rain, Heat waves can be a drain vs. end or stun, drain or suppress vs speed for blizzards that freeze targets. Even a form of entangle that encases them in ice. Lots of ways to build weather powers.
  22. Re: Power Construction Question you can't MAKE a person role-play. Its called free will. I base the exp rewards on how well they role-play the disads. If a person has the disad Honorable: cannot tell a lie(com/str), then thats his character concept. Like a bushido monk or lawful good paladin. If this person does not role-play these disads in my game he faces the in game consequences of losing his paladin hood and powers that are granted to him (not the points) or the monk gets dispelled from his order and has to find a new place to live. And now they both have a "reputation" disad. They don't get free points for that. They get to live with their consequences of not playing their character. They also have to face the fact out of game that they aren't gonna get as much exp as the other players because they aren't role-playing. Not after alot of lying the disad will slowly go away. Real people change over time just the way the characters can. Again, straight from the book pg 117 under disads : Lets go through a scenario real quick; I decide to start up a new campaign. Its going to be a 75pt Horror 1930's campaign. Straight from H.P. Lovecraft. I call Joe, ask what he wants to play. He says: I wanna play a student with a part time PI job. He like little adventures so he'll be a Thrillseeker (com/mod). He has a fear of heights though (com/str). Since I want to be playful with him towards other characters and NPC's I'll make him a Prankster (com/mod). This will fit in cause he's a student he's still young. He is hunted by a member of the local mafia, no one big, just a street thug I got some incriminating evidence on while doing my job. Hunted(as powerful/limited area/mildly punish) 11 or less. This is what I call character concept. This is what the player wants to play. I'll set a minimum, usually half the base that they have to pick just so there can be some substance to the character. If they want more go for it, play what you want but your not getting a billion points for the attitude your character has. That takes away totally from the role-playing aspect of the game to me.
  23. Re: Hand to Hand Attack Over Priced? ad hominem? We aren't cursing or screaming at each other. Its a peacefull debate. No one is getting steamed bunny rabit. Move along, nothing to see here for you
