  1. Re: Hand To Hand Attacks Same answer funky, it was answered.
  2. Re: Power Construction Question Lord Hobie already thanked us for his input and moved on to other things. Meanwhile me and Dan the man are still discussing something. No need cluttering up the board with another thread.
  3. Re: Hand to Hand Attack Over Priced? You make absolutely no sense to me. Twyly posted a topic about how he disagrees with the pricing of a HA. Since he cannot MAKE Steven pump out a 6th edition with revised rules for HA on a moments notice, my suggestion is; He's the gm, its his game, MAKE it 1D6 for 3 pts. I'm not using any circular reasoning or missing your point. I never said its NOT a problem, to him it is a problem. He has the power to change it. He doesn't have to wait for anyone else to say its ok. Exactly, we as a community, as players and GM's are talking about Twyly's problem and how he can fix it. Steven has nothing to do with it. I'm sure he has a tips and complaint section of emails that he evaluates from time to time. Thats EXACTLY the way to go unless your a "rules natzi" and say we have to play this way even though we hate it and it doesn't fit in my campaign because the book says thats the way it is. You as GM have ALL the power to take Steven's and George's "Guidlines" for the Hero System and trash, adapt, accept, improve, and limit to your liking. How long have you played? This is the most basic and should be the most fully understand concept for any gm of any game system.
  4. Re: Power Construction Question Uhh thats called character concept, not pile on disads so i can get more points for powers. Never said vulnerabilities don't give points, All my examples were psychological limitations. I'm not a moron I understand the disadvantages system. I just don't agree with the concept it provides. Vulnerabilities, physical limitations "blind, parapalegic", susceptibilities "sunlight, silver" for example I allow extra points for. But disads that describe how your character is to be role-played?! Nope, aint bending on that principle. I don't run hack-n-slash games so my players don't have to worry about stacking on huge amounts of disads to be even with the rest of the group. If you run a 500pt super game you really want your players picking out 750pts of disads just so they can have more points. They'll be so insane and shifty they would be unplayable. No thx not for me.
  5. Re: Hand To Hand Attacks Its your campaign, your rules. Just don't allow stupid abilities and powers. My rule is yes a person buying a 1D6 HA with a 10 STR will get a 3D6 HA. There is NOTHING wrong with that. However a club that is 1D6 for all intended and RL puposes is semi-fragile. So a character with a 10 str could only use 5 of his str to make it a 2D6 HA or he risks breaking the flimsy club. So the DC rule of you can't go over double the dice in my book only applies to objects. As for powers go a brick with 100str can buy a 1D6 HA if he really wants to. But I seem to be a paradox of beliefs to just about everyone so far on these boards.
  6. Re: Hand to Hand Attack Over Priced? Well since you insist, I said : This sort of thing you can't change unless you just want to. I mean after all YOU are the GM so if you dont like the 5thED 1D6 HA for 5 pts then just MAKE it 1D6 for 3 pts. Then you said : Good to see this fallacy exists outside of the D&D boards. Let me show you why this is a non-solution to a system problem. Now, the way I read what you said is because of the word fallacy. From dictionary.com Fallacy is: -A false notion. -A statement or an argument based on a false or invalid inference. -Incorrectness of reasoning or belief; erroneousness. -The quality of being deceptive. So in conclusion we have me saying in shorhand that you are GM you can change the system to fit your campaign anyway you want. And you saying in shorthand that I'm false and my belief is erroneous. Wheres the confusion?
  7. Re: Hand to Hand Attack Over Priced? How is saying the GM being the final call in rules and regulations for a game considered a fallacy in your eyes? You a rules natzi? All game systems are guidelines. Learn it and use it. ^^@Dan
  8. Re: Power Construction Question What are you talking about? This is taken from the first paragraph under CHARACTER DISADVANTAGES on pg 117 of Hero System sourcebook: Determining a character's Disadvantages helps determine his personality, gives the GM interesting ideas for adventures, and gives the character more Character Points to spend. It continues on, in the third paragraph: The more Disadvantages each character has, the more flaws he has, and the more points he gets to spend on Powers, Skills, etc. If you run a 75pt normal game and build a 75 pt character with no disadvantages your playing a person that has no concept. He has no personality querks, fears, hatreds etc.. But you still only get 75pts. No person on the PLANET has no disads. But the way you play your game, the other players can build a 150pt character, but can take 75pts in disads, and effectively be a 75pt character. That, in my opinion is just stupid. Disads shouldn't have any effect on how powerful your character is. If we build exact copies of a character, mine has no disads and a 3D6 HA, your character with 75pt in disads can afford a 6D6 HA. So because you have Disadvantages that basically give your character depth, history, concept, attitude, a PERSONA you get to be more powerful than the other players who have fewer or no disads. Basicaly they dont even have to roleplay cause they dont have disads. So how on EARTH do you determine who gets exp and how much ? How do you base the role-playing experience in your game to determine how many character points the players get if you use that part of the system? /boggle. I'll NEVER agree to that.
  9. Re: Power Construction Question So a character with 50 str has the Disad Overconfident (com/str) 15pts gets deducted from his overall total. BS. I dont use the rule and never have never will. To each his own.
  10. Re: Character Generator? whats the difference between revised and unrevised. Isn't revised 5th edition same thing as a 6th edition? ;p EDIT: I know these are some dumb questions but I've been playing for 20 years. Last book I bought was Horror Hero in 1994 and I haven't seen any champions stuff since then. Until recently I thought it was a dead game.
  11. Re: Power Construction Question Gah my pet peeve of this game. Disads shouldn't make powers costs less. Disads define your characters personality archtype and how you ROLE-PLAY in this ROLE-PLAYING game. Those disads determine how many points you get per game. You play crappy, you get 2 pts, you play good you get 5. Shouldn't shrink the points on a power.
  12. Re: Character Generator? I've seen that FRed used before. Whats it stand for? Fifth Revised Edition?
  13. Re: Power Construction Question The AOE advantage for that to cover anyone in LOS would be tremendous though. I'de just make it a "Cloud Mind" type thing. If I want you to see me then i'll let you, but if I dont to bad. Granted its not EXACTLY what he described but that AE mod would have to be huge if I'm interpreting what he wants. I see it as like the scene in Replacement Killers in the begining. He's walking through the club to the table and all of a sudden someone walks in front of him and he vanishes. But only to those at the table, he's still there for everyone else cause he's not invisible. He just affects the senses of those at the table.
  14. Re: Hand to Hand Attack Over Priced? so a super brick with 40 str and "no figured characteristics" has 0 pd? That is uhh... lame. I wouldn't allow that unless it was a rare power or ability. I've heard of adds to characteristics for +1/4. Like when you get 20pts of growth and have the "adds to characteristics +1/4" advantage the +20str will add to the pd and stun values. As for a super with a multipower of 1D6HKA's with different advantages, thats just abusing the system. Its up to the GM to use common sense and say no that doesn't work. I see no reason for a cap on POWER based attacks as long as it doesn't abuse the system. A mutant with 75 str and a 1D6 HKA is ok, but an entire framework, nope dont think so. And since its a mutant power that power will be worked on and improved. If he wants more damage he gets another Dice.
  15. Re: Hand to Hand Attack Over Priced? Not at all man. You dont just give one player more points, give them all. This is the game system we play, and I've played ALOT of systems. This is by far the best and most detailed. In fact its so detailed is why its not Blasting D&D off the shelves and shutting them down. GM's take a look at the game system and see to much work they have to do. To much reading/math/memorizing. This sort of thing you can't change unless you just want to. I mean after all YOU are the GM so if you dont like the 5thED 1D6 HA for 5 pts then just MAKE it 1D6 for 3 pts. I dont have a 5th ED book so I dont know the changes but thats definately one I dont like. Especially for SuperHero. You have charcters running around with 40pd/ed of total defenses and possibly dmg reduction, how are you supposed to do any damage with a HA if it costs 5pts per. So increase the exp your players get if you only give them 1-2 pts a game so they can get these abilities. Don't be afraid of points, theres nothing wrong with them. I saw one guy post he started a game at 75pts and a year and half later they are 350pts. That averages 3.5 pts a game. OMG that blows. Crank up your points son! Just cause they are normal doesn't mean they are limited. Characters can be blessed by gods and stumble upon artifact books that "awaken" the mind. They can catch unknown disease that alter their genetics etc...
  16. Re: Equipment Pools? Dust Raven, just remembered this while making a sandwhich. You'd have to be NUTS to think Superman is built on 300 points. Dude he picked up a Techtonic plate! He flies from one side of the country to the other in seconds. He gets shot in the eye with cannons and smiles! I'de build Superman at 4000 points. Has a 300pt Variable Advantage Kryptonian multipower, a 60pt + Elemental control for Flight/defenses. Then a 200pt COSMIC power pool with limitation only to enhance his Krypton Powers. He's kicking like a natural 120 Str, 50 Dex, 12 speed, 30 Ego, etc... Superman is... well he's superman! 300 pts !?!!? your on crack !
  17. Re: Hand to Hand Attack Over Priced? How? Especially the last sentance. If your giving 1-3pts per game your super hero's aren't gonna be able to afford abilities unless a year of our lives goe's by. I use GM points and Player points. And base those points on the characters overall point total. If one player has a 1000pt character, he's gonna get up to 5pts for him to spend and 5 that I spend on his character. A 75 pt character could get like 2 and 2 respectively.
  18. Re: Power Construction Question Found it: 2" Radius Darkness vs Sight Group/Sound Group/Mental Group = 45 Base 0 END +1/2 Selective +1/4 = 79 Active Then tack on whatever limitations you feel appropriate and throw it in his Mutant Elemental Control or Multipower. I would put in an elemental control since you said its always in effect and give limitation Always on -1/2. Its not persistant so it will turn off if he's unconsious. Other ideas are it could take a full phase to activate -1/2 and required Stealth roll -1/2. Throw that in an EC and it costs you 20pts + the 20pt EC. EDIT: woops forgot to put on it No Range -1/2 and personal immunity +1/2, means the 2" radius is constantly surrounding you. So when power is on people that look your way will not be able to sense you with sight/sound or mental.
  19. Re: Power Construction Question Yeah i built something like this the other day one sec let me find it. It wasn't mind control though thats to expensive and people can make ego breakout roles. What kind of points are you looking to work with?
  20. Re: Hand to Hand Attack Over Priced? The first 3 postsers are discussing that the price of HA is more costly then they think it should be. I'm saying 3pts for 1D6 isn't costly at all, it actually cheap. If they agree it is costly then they shouldn't be afraid to dish out more exp and not worry about so many limitations to decrease costs.
  21. Re: Character Generator? yeah times like that can get tedious sometimes. When you have advantages on a facet in a EC with on lime and the second facet is linked to first faced, and the whole thing has an overall lim. Its best not to calculate that late a night
  22. Re: Equipment Pools? Well he was actully just an elf fighter. But when I converted him to champions he was only 400 pts. lol Thats with a 80pt follower Griffon mount too. So I decided to make him an Ascended Elf, Leshay, to eat up the points. So now he's 880 which puts him on par with others. I just made 500exp in D&D = 1 exp in champions. Since he was lvl 31 at 440,000 that makes him 880pts. And he only has 231 in stats. Nothing outragous either, a 25 dex thats about it. But he's one of those dex based fighters, not str at a 13
  23. Re: Character Generator? Well the math isn't hard at all, its only fractions. Take your points multiply by numerator and divide by denominator. 30 active with +1/2 = 45 points. 45 with -1 lim = 22.5 points. I mean does it show you that 1D6 Transfer is still worth 15 points. etc...
  24. Re: Hand to Hand Attack Over Priced? What is "No figured characteristics" and since when did the dmg of the power have a max = to dbl the dice in it? I thought that was only for items. Like if you have a 2D6 HKA AP+1/2 Greatsword, with strength and martial arts DC's and levels and manuever bonus's, the most dmg you can do with that weapon is 4D6HKA. But with powers, say like Vampire Claws that are 2D6 HKA. If my strength is 45 my damage with claws is 5D6.
  25. Re: Character Generator? Does it explaint he point costs for new powers? Cause I'm oldschool champions. I thought champions was dead 10 years ago till I saw a 5th edition book for sale in my hobby store. I was amazed o.O I noticed some costs for powers have changed so don't know them by heart.
