  1. Re: Musing on D&D spellcasting conversion

I like killer shrike's method for both prepared casting and spontaneous casting. It works pretty much just like in dnd, and he even offers a third option for vancian magic. Not only that but he's got like all the spells already converted. For a little different flavor, Thia Halmades is also converting dnd spells. Ja ne.

  2. Re: Seeking build suggestions for "Always on" missile deflection

I don't know; personally I think that Jedi could reasonably be argued as using their phase to do reflection.

Agreed, I can see the deflection being automatic, as you just let the force do it's thing, but when you want the shot to be reflected somewhere specific, you have to use an action to nudge the force yourself instead of riding the tide.

If it were ever put into a game the same might work for this character, free deflect, but reflect requires an action, and you could even use the same reasoning as I said before. Easy to spin it off anywhere, but takes more concentration to spin it somewhere specific.

And this was my 100th post... It only took me two years, I'm so special! :ugly:

  3. Re: Measurement in HERO

They did help us kick out the Brits and later on made a pretty cool statue' date=' but in between they were interfering with FREE TRADE! We don't stand for that crap.[/quote']

No! Indeed we sit down for that, it's a lot of work! :eg:

  4. Re: Predictions for the year 2000

Though honestly it's interesting how many were actually correct (or at least partially correct... THEY PREDICTED FAST FOOD... after a fashion).

Just remember, electricity is the answer to all the worlds problems.

  5. Re: Resistance is Futile...

Though the Borg don't assimilate everything, an episode of voyager 7 of 9 mentions the Borg thought the Kazon were unworthy of assimilation, and thus were only to be destroyed (or something like that... many years since I saw the episode). I'm not exactly sure why the borg would assimilate a tribble though... Anyways, that's my input... oh yeah, looks good.

  6. Re: Sorceror/Wizard 3.5 Spell Conversion

I vote for Cleric. After all, it'll give you a break from both the higher difficulty of higher level spells and only doing Sorc/Wiz spells. Also, since some of the spells overlap, it should be quicker (at least I think some of the spells overlap... I've never actually played a cleric for more than one session...).

  7. Re: Wacky attack

    Ok,

25 The Munchkinator!: RKA 1 point (standard effect: 1 BODY, 42 STUN), Area Of Effect Accurate (One Hex; +1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1), Armor Piercing (x2; +1), Autofire (5 shots; +1 1/2), +40 Increased STUN Multiplier (+10) (75 Active Points); Side Effects (GM slaps player silly for attempting to use such a silly power build; -1), Activation Roll 14-, Jammed (GM smells cheese in the air; -1) - END=0

    PWNED!!!!

    :o

  8. Re: Is STUN more important than BODY?

Stun is stuff that is gone in less than 5 minutes, to my way of thinking, I did try and do Long Term Stun to emulate longer lasting but non-fatal damage but it seemed a bit complicated - well, not complicated, but more trouble than it was really worth.

One thing I was thinking about on the way home - perhaps when you take Body the first point or two should be considered 'shock'. Shock can kill, but if you are not dead in 5 minutes or so you are probably going to make it, so all shock damage is removed after 5 minutes if you are not dead already.

In fact you could do this: point 1 of Body is shock, gone after 5 minutes (or an REC/hour or whatever).

Point 2 is bruising and contusion: REC/day

Point 3+ is normal Body damage: REC/month

That way (if you feel you need to) you can kill characters in combat relatively quickly, but there is a big difference between taking 10 Body damage from a single sword thrust and 10 individual nicks with a knife.

You record '1st point damage' with a slash, thus: /

You record '2nd point damage' with a slash, thus: \

You record '3rd point damage' with a cross, thus: X

Easy enough to sort out after!

    Just thinking aloud.

Oh my, I quite like this, putting this in my house rule ideas folder!

  9. Re: Naruto

Yeah, the chakra element explanation is relatively recent in the manga, and we almost got an explanation for how Shikamaru and Chouji's jutsu work.

Also, you might want to considdering adding a fourth skill called Chakra Control for those jutsu that aren't typically involved with the other types, namely things like water walking, wall walking, super strength, healing, and even rasengan.

Another good way for them to get alot of jutsu easily is to use a cost divider, like 3 or 5. The VPP to me seems a little powerful, and generally fits with Sharingan better, though I'd also model Gaara's sand with it since it's being given to him by that nasty little demon inside him, though you could just do that with typical jutsu and just say he learned it from shukaku.

  10. Re: Naruto

Anyway' date=' the reason for all the fillers was that the anime caught up with the Manga more quickly then expected, so because they ran out of plot, they've been doing filler while they wait for the manga to get sufficiently ahead.[/quote']

Yes, I know this, but the fact is that they didn't have to wait nearly close to as long as they did. Assuming they went at the original pace of around 2-3 chapters of manga per episode, around 6 or so month ago they could ahve picked up again and NEVER caught up for all intents and purposes. And actually it seems like they're being a little slow with the current shippuuden (they really drew out the bells). In any case, that is why I hated the fillers so much, they were entirely unnecisary for a good deal of recent time.

  11. Re: Naruto

    SWEET!

And yes, Shippuuden deserves much adoration, if nothing else because it marks the end of the horrendous filler. Now then I'm just waiting to see what the Rasengan Shuriken looks like in all its' animated glory. :king:

  12. Re: Rolling Over versus Under

This is the way I ran the two games of DnD HERO that actually happened. It worked really well since I didn't have to bother explaining the default system for combat rolls to new players, which isn't the easiest thing to grasp right off the bat.

I was actually pondering modifying the bonuses from stats a bit, making a stat of 10 = +0, and every +5 to a stat is +1 to the roll, and every -5 is -1 to the roll. That way the target number for skill rolls is 10, a much more round number, and it still keeps the same variables as the standard system. Also, since CV's are still determined by DEX/3, it doesn't mess with combat in any way.

The only thing is that you need to figure you target numbers for things, but of course that's already been talked about here. :hush:

  13. Re: New to HERO

Honestly, I think that you could just rename it. ND and MD, Normal Damage, Magic damage. Maybe not normal, though, as that then relates too closely to Normal and Lethal Damage. Regular? Mundane? Non-Magical? Or just keep it called physical, since it comes from a physical source, as opposed to a magical source. Anyway, Just some more food for thought.

  14. Re: New to HERO

Yes, I highly recomend Killer Shrikes entire website, especially his High Fantasy HERO section since it is what you're looking to mimic.

Interestingly, Thia, you made me think of something I hadn't thought of before... redefining the SFX of ED into Magic, making it that non magic damage works against PD, and Magic against ED. I like that much better for D&D HERO, and will ponder on this some more.

Now, hopfully Toma comes back and realizes people are still replying to his thread. :ugly:
