Re: The Future of Small Arms
I predict that' date=' given the importance of being able to reach a keyboard or steering wheel in everyday life in the industrialized world, arms that are too small to reach them effectively will be selected against Darwinian-style. Small arms are going to go the way of the dodo. [/quote']"Ummm... excuse me... could you hold this? Thanks... now try to aim it away from my shoes, please."

Re: Discourse on Fantasy Hero
That's pretty much what he said, but a lot of other folks did too, so I think the case is solved.
By the way, BDH... the attribution for the quote in your sig is incorrect. That line was actually said by WKRP's ad agent, Herb Tarlek (played by Frank Bonner).

Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign
I thought you guys would like that new water craft. I thought it was something right out of a sci-fi movie scene when I first seen it.Ummm... did I miss something? What watercraft?
Cool! I'll get it on my site ASAP.

Re: The Future of Small Arms
Three problems: Illegal in war (explosive bullets' date=' as well as hollowpoints, were specifically banned under the Geneva Conventions post WWI),[/quote']We are postulating a war 300 years in the future, after all. Who says the Geneva Conventions will still be observed.
Also, bear in mind that the rules are written by the winners.
See my first note above. We might have much more powerful propellants and explosives 300 years from now.far too easy to stop,... Unless you're talking a major bang (much greater than that produced by the amount of Compound-4 you can pack into a bullet) a rigid or semi-rigid plate, such as are common in most modern body-armours, would stop the bullet without significant damage to the target - less than that inflicted by a solid bullet, almost certainly.
A simple arming device... perhaps incorporated into the primer of the round?and reliability issues... And if you're using impact to detonate the bullet, you'd better find some VERY reliable way to make it understand the difference between hitting something and being fired. -
Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign
Easy Method:Yep it was. Thanks Dale for your way of doing it. But G-A and Starwolf way is easier. You should try it.Hmmmph... well, yeah... if ya wanna wuss out and let a machine do your job!
Let me know what you think. Here is the Corsair's LairCool Beans!! I'll put a link to your site on mine!
Thanks for posting the links for Dale's and Samantha's pages. Nice and easy for me to find now. I wish I had been that smart in the first place.Samantha has a page?!? Lemme have the link and I'll put that on my site, too!
I would like to repeat my request for a copy of the news articles from one of the you. I would like to post those to the Gemini Ascendant pageSorry, man... I thought I had already sent them to you. I'll send the whole thing when I send the writeup for Morty.

Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign
Hey how do I get more then one quote to a reply ?Practice and perserverance...
No... really. All I do is click on the quote button for each message I want to quote, copy the text of the quote, then back out of that message and move on to the next one. After I've collected all the quotes I want, I post a new reply and paste all the text clips into that new message, then add my various replies.
It's an arduous process, but you guys are worth it.

Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign
AGHH! My laptop just ate itself....Mine tried to do that once. Got a kink in its neck and hasn't been the same since...
We need a place to store our character sheets "offsite" . . . I have server space if needed.Hmm... now that you mention it, I seem to recall having some server space, too! In fact, I was considering setting up an FTP section for game-related files.
Nothing' date=' was suggesting it as part of the cover story. While else would we take him along?[/quote']You brought Morty along because you didn't have the platoon of battle-enraged Yazarians it would have taken to keep him from going to help Milo. Odd thing about big, loveable Irishmen... they tend to acquire VERY loyal friends!

Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign
Before you all go dissing the ship, please let me direct your attention to Milo's list of Disadvantages... about the sixth entry down. Go look now... I'll wait.

Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign
Okay, I have good news and bad news...
First, the bad news. I looked through all of my saved chat logs and was unable to find the one where Presto introduced himself by his RL name. As a result, I can't post my credits page yet.
The good news?
While searching through those chat logs, I located two undated ones that are from the Theseus Commerce destruction... before we were, officially, a team!
You'll have to change the extensions to .html to view them in your browser, of course. Enjoy!
See you guys tonight!
[edit]
Went ahead and added the credits page anyway. Left a blank for Presto's name, to be filled in later.

Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign
Excellent! That just leaves Presto... and I know he's mentioned his name while playing. Damn it, I ought to quit being lazy and go check my chat logs.

Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign
Hey DaleMy first name is Jim. This way you can identify Nolgroth from me.
Cool! You know any of the others? I'd like to get that section of my site done with.

Re: Class systems -- is there no escape?
~shrugs~
I really thought this was a rather silly premise for discussion to begin with... and now, it looks like people have begun arguing for argument's sake. Time for me to unsubscribe from the thread and disappear into the shadows.
Later!

Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign
I know this was discussed during a gaming session, but give me a break... it was late at night and I'm an old man with crappy memory.
I'd like to mention everyone by their first names on my website. I've got nolgroth (James) and ghost-angel (Gordon). I still need Starwolf, solron915, Prestidigitator, and SW's wifey.
I'm thinking about making it a more general purpose website. The intro page would be a menu with links to each of my other characters (when I have more than one). Each section would be styled according to the genre, i.e. a scifi character would have a computer-like interface, a fantasy character would have an interface that looks like a handwritten parchment, a contemporary character would have one that resembles a spiral-bound notebook, etc. Should be pretty easy to do now that GA has clued me in to some of the intricacies of .CSS.
By the way, nolgroth... I think I've found the (almost) perfect export template for posting our character sheets. The HTML Barebones template includes everything we need except the background info and a picture... and neither of those would be difficult to add to it.
That's the template I'm using to display Milo's character sheet on my site. The only problem I'm having is trying to get the table styles tweaked just right. As it is, it's perfectly readable... just not "perfect", ya know?
Well, I gotta get back to the ol' grindstone. Later, gang!

Re: Class systems -- is there no escape?
~heavy sigh~
Why all the angst about words? If you don't like a certain word, use another. It doesn't mean that you're playing a class-based game! The words are just a handy way to describe yourself, as several others have pointed out. Without those handy descriptors, we'd all get bogged down in semantics as we try to describe our characters without using those terms.
Kinda like trying to describe a polar bear without using the word "white".

Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign
Sorry... I didn't start saving the chat log until after that session.

Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign
DaleI was searching through the chat files and found anothers 312.5 TM that need to be added to the ships funds. We collected 25312.5 TM for the medical supplies . That should give us 43312.5 tm in the ship's fund .
Cool... I'll be sure to add it in. Never know when we'll need an extra half mark!
Does ORPG even care about Java? I don't think it uses it at all' date=' in any way. Just Python.[/quote']Yeah, I realize that now... after I was reminded over on the ORPG boards.
It SHOULD use Java.If I'm not mistaken, I think ORPG2 will be using Java!

Re: Daily Art Findings
Evertyime I see a fantasy building like that, I always envision the contractor:"You want me to build what, where???"
Seriously, the foundation alone would be a nightmare.
Keith "But it looks real cool" Curtis
Tell that to the guys who built Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater. Throw enough money at a problem, and it ceases to be a problem.

Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign
As I was telling Simon on the HeroDesigner forums, I got an update message from Java this morning. It says Java 5.0 Update 9 is ready to be downloaded and installed. Does anyone have any idea whether ORPG will choke on this update?
I'm going to ask on the ORPG forums, too... just in case.
