And what were they thinking?

Re: The cranky thread
The door is still bleeding? Dayamn.
I wish games like this between separated parents were a lot more unusual. But I've seen enough to think they are the rule rather than the exception.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
I waste so much of my time eating, sleeping, peeing, and bathing. Flesh is... inefficient.

Re: The cranky thread
I finally figured out my place in the grand scheme of things. If I worked in the 4077th MASH unit' date=' I'd be Radar O'Reilly.[/quote']Really? I had you figured for Agrajag.

Re: The cranky thread
When the hell did "waiting on" become acceptable grammar, anyway? Unless you're a waiter or a waitress, you wait for stuff. Right?
Even I catch myself using "on" nowadays, and that's infinitely more annoying than hearing someone else use it.

Re: The cranky thread
Hah, at my last job I was hired as a programmer and wound up as sysadmin. At this job I was hired as a sysadmin and, for a time, wound up as director of marketing.

Re: The cranky thread
Well' date=' there are reasons to have all computer clocks synchronized to the servers, even if those servers aren't synchronized with anything else. For instance you can have authentication problems is your local system clock is too far off the clock of the server handling the request.[/quote']Yeah, and if you're trying to run virtual on VMware ESX, the system clock needs to be within five minutes of the server clock or it won't run at all. Just one of those liiiiittle things in IT that's just unbelievably annoying.

Re: Martial Arts sub-genre settings?
The other is in a sci-fi setting in the near future. The problem is that I'm trying to come up with a reason why anyone would do a lot of martial arts in the future. This comes up fairly often. My best suggestion is to be really stingy with ammo for ranged weapons. You could steal the bullet tax idea from SLA Industries, where each round is insanely expensive, or implement a totalitarian government that has strict controls on guns.

Re: Future Fashion
I was right with that up until the men's outfit. Oh swish!

Re: Musings on Random Musings
Might have been a Javascript issue on the iPhone? IIRC Javascript for Apple lags behind the ones for Microsoft.
No, it loaded fine, it's just that load times are slower on the little phone, especially if I'm on EDGE and not wireless.
I'd also like for there to be larger buttons for "next page" and "last page" on here. The little numbers or > are really hard to hit with my fat finger on the iphone. But most of all, what needs to go away is the huge box of animated smileys on the reply-to page. Those things suck up a hell of a lot of CPU time and make it hard to type.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
I know baseball is supposed to be the iconic American sport, but it just bores the living daylights out of me. It's almost as boring as soccer.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
BTW' date=' what happened to the Chat area at the top of the pages? It went away while I was at lunch. ???[/quote']Dunno, but it was killing the load timeon my iPhone. Oops, steak is done.

Re: The cranky thread
"Go under" doesn't really convey the violent suddenness with which it occurred. "Blew up in mid air" would be more accurate.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
Semantics.

Re: The cranky thread
I had a lot of miles built up on Aloha Airlines, since I had an Aloha Airlines credit card. No idea exactly how many--all the Aloha phone numbers are quite solidly busy--but I know it was a lot. All gone.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
Taxes are done. Finally. The final return looks to be about two inches thick. The CPA assures me that she's seen much thicker ones. Does thickness matter?

Re: Musings on Random Musings
Yeah, the industry went from giving loans to anyone with a pulse, to not giving them at all. Meanwhile, I now owe more on the house than I could get from selling it.

"Mommy mommy mommy!"
"Yes, what is it?"
"You look like a princess!"
"Why thank you, son! What a nice thing to say! You're so sweet!"
"Daddy daddy!"
"Yes?"
"You look like a princess too!"
