  1. I think most if not all of what those characters are doing boils down to a form of Detect.  The computer is just a special effect.  If you insist on using a VPP then more active points are needed as Special Powers like Detect are not allowed by RAW to be included in a Framework.  The legal way around this is to use Clairsentience but a worldwide version would be about 60 Active Points.  Since Clairsentience is really just a hardcoded version of Detect you might be better off just making a custom build of Detect instead.  The key is the Limitations, like only to access information that could be obtained via computer hacking (Requires a Roll, Systems Op, Computer Programming, Cryptography, etc...).

Thanks. That might work for the detect based powers, but the player also wants to use her laptop to take over control of other computer controlled systems. Perhaps a machine class mind, mind control. I am having trouble building all the powers. Any assistance would be appreciated.

  2. I am running a superhero game where one of the players wants their character to be able to use their suped up laptop to link to satellites, security cameras, databases, well pretty much everything. I have been pretty much hand waving it, but I would like her to have a VPP with several different prebuilt powers that reflect her abilities. Can anyone please help me with the VPP and the powers? I was a thinking that the laptop would be an OAF, many of the powers would require a roll to reflect whether a satellite or security camera was where she needed it. All The powers would require a systems operations roll. I want her to be able to do the kind of stuff Felicity Smoak does in the tv show Arrow and that the operations person does in the tv show Strike Back, or Barbara Gordon does in Batman comics. Any help would be greatly appreciated. She has about 40 points to work with.

  3. Rhino you stated two key terms, trust and dramatic needs. For some gm and players that works fine others not so much. Rhino i like and try to keep things simple and prefer one page charcter sheets however since the player wants a sword with personality and due things as another character I personally still recommend writting it up as an AI. I believe that this will be more beneficel to both the character and the gm for a long game.

You are probably correct. Plus, Lucius does such an excellent job writing this stuff up.

  4. IMHO you can model many of the designated features of the sword with the side effects and no conscious control limitations (as well as a complication that the sword has a mind of its own) rather than giving it presence attacks, or making it an AI, etc. The way the sword interacts with the wielder and the world at large can then be determined by dramatic needs and what is the most fun. This requires trust between the gm and player of course. I sometimes find that the more you try to model every minutia of an item or power, the more limited and bloated it becomes.

  5. My recollection is that the rules talk about explicit LOS not being required, in that if you know someone is hiding in the trunk of a car or other specific area you can still target him with a mental attack power, albeit with a negative MCV, maybe even a 1/2 MCV.  I would use those parameters.  If someone aborts and dives for cover and moves out of LOS of the mentalist, then assuming the mentalist knows the specific/general area where he dove to, he could still attack with a negative MCV, maybe even a 1/2 MCV.  GM's call.

  6. If you use Dispel that is only effective against Invisibility to the Sight sense group and the target has Invisibility to both the Sight and Hearing sense groups, how do you determine the active point cost of the Invisibility power for purposes of determining the effectiveness of the dispel? Do you use the active point cost of just that part of the invisibility to Sight group or do you use the active point cost of the entire multi sense group Invisibility power?

  7. I have started my Champions game and things have gone relatively well. The plot involves the Gigaton, Meteor and Raksaha. I can handle Gigaton and Meteor in combat, but I am not experienced, devious or smart enough to competently play Raksasha. He always ends up getting noticed and taken out right quick.

Does anyone have any generic moves for him that are devious, smart and fun? He has mental illusions, images and can shapeshift.

  8. How do you usually handle damaging a focus such as a shield or armor? Does an attack on the character that goes through the defenses provided by the focus damage both the character and the focus or do you have to actually target the focus and give up a chance to damage the character in order to damage the focus? As an aside, why would anyone not take the durable or unbreakable attributes on a focus?
