  1. Re: MYTHIC HERO: What Do *You* Want To See?

I appreciate that. ;) Believe me' date=' I wish I could find another 300-400 people who would do the same, since that's definitely how I'd like to do MH -- as a full-color hardback with all original art (there simply isn't any public domain art for most of the gods I'm writing up, though there's probably plenty for the Greek and Norse mythoi). But that'd cost at least $60,000 if not more -- it's hard to say until I know how long the book is and how much art it would need.[/quote']

I know that I missed the Kickstarter because I was away from the Hero Forums for a while. I believe that there are many others in my position who are nostalgic for the Hero System. Perhaps a dedicated effort to let them know about another Kickstarter attempt might bear fruit.

  2. Re: Looking for Rule of "X" Examples

The problem with speed at *2 is that he doesn't have to be far below in ANY stat to get greatly increased speed. With the example I gave earlier I can drop 2 Stun (20 Stun), 4 PD +4 ED (taking me to 20/20), and get 6 speed. I still have average OCV/DCV and attacks, and can attack 50% more often than the average super in this campaign. I only take 4 more STUN from an attack than the average, and while I have a lower STUN total to worry about there are a TON of ways to get around that which are not included in the Rule of X.

Of course no matter what you create for a rule of X it can be broken. Rule of X is just one tool in a GM's box to try and keep games balanced.

If we used SPD x3 in the formula, what woud a good range be for a standard superheroic campaign? (One of my concerns about SPD is that it causes that character to suck up more attantion and time. That is another reason why I would like to encourage speeds in the 5-6 range.)

  3. Re: Looking for Rule of "X" Examples

    The one I've been using is (SPD*2 + OCV + DCs) + (DCV + (PD+ED)/4 + STUN/10). Damage Reduction is a multiplier of x1.25, x2 or x4 STUN.

Each individual factor is relatively balanced against the others. The first half is a measure of offensive capacity, the second half a measure of defensive. No actual numbers are given because you can vary it by game, and not every needs to meet an exact value a close range (3-5 points, one standard deviation, or something) is close enough.

    Chris.

I am not sure I understand. What should the numbers add up to for a standard super heroic game?

  4. I am going to start a campaign soon. It will be standard superheroic set in the Champions Universe. 400 points/75 complications. Does anyone have any good Rule of X campaign character parameters that they can share with me. Some of my players are munchkins and they have me worried. I would like to provide some parameters that balance out variations in SPD, OCV, DCV, DC, etc.

  5. Re: Looking For Input On Potential New Fantasy Product

The question is how many more retail shelves can you get the book on if you go traditional versus Kickstarter? The next question is how many more new players will actually purchase the book merely from seeing it on the shelf?

It seems to me that Hero is a niche market. IMO the best way to create new players is to have old players go missionary. We have to get out of our comfort zone of playing with our old Hero buddies and actually try to introduce as many new players to Hero as possible. This means running introductory games at conventions and flgs, etc.

I think that Kickstarter is the way to go. Produce a game that the old players can use to introduce new players to the fold. Produce introductory adventures for the old players to run at conventions and game stores. There should be enough copies to get them on Amazon and into the game stores that want them. Provide a few copies as prizes at the games, etc. It is up to us to keep Hero a going concern.

  6. Re: The Good and Bad about Marvel and DC

Yeah, I was referring to the Motion Comics. I really enjoyed (am enjoying them). I like the adult oriented stories. I have not enjoyed the latest Marvel animated movies as much as I have the DC. Again, I think it is the maturity of the storylines and characters.

  7. Re: The Good and Bad about Marvel and DC

I have been perusing Netflix for animated superhero films. I must say that there are some alternative style animation superhero shorts by Marvel out there that I really like. The animation combines high quality art, but with extremely limited motion effects to it. It is hard to explain, but it almost looks like what you would get if you were playing with the high quality drawings/computer graphics. The high quality art/computer graphics, narration, story, and voice acting allows me to quickly get past the limited motion effects. In fact, it views more like a comic book than otherwise. There was one on the X-Men that had the Scott and Emma relationship going that was really interesting. I am watching one right now on Iron Man fighting a really powerful super soldier that I am enjoying. I do not like the animated films made for kids. Blah. There are also some good DC animated films in the style of the Animated Justice League that I enjoyed as well.
