  1. Ok, I am going to start working more on my ninja Hero Campaign which I call Sunday Afternoon Shaolin Kung Fu Theatre! If you want to see the stuff leading up to this post please check out my first thread. http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37454 For now I am going to be working on the Red Raven and his Evil Cult that is bent on destroying the Shaolin Temple which is the main stage for the campaign. He is the ultra-villain that is bent on destroying the temple because of an old insult accidentally perpetrated by the current head monk of the temple. In the beginning they were very close friends. Then they were called monks Chow and Chan. Chow was a very humble and generous person. While Chan was outwardly friendly, but he had an evil scheming heart and a lust for power. As they moved forward with there training Chow leapt a head was the favourite of the head monk at the time. This angered Chan and he worked very hard to become as good a monk as Chow. Chan was willing to do anything to prove his worth, and show the other monks his obvious superiority. Just as Chan was about to show how he had mastered the complex art of chinese medicine to Chow. Chow told him of how he was going to leave the temple and wonder and help people, and to further his Kung Fu. Chan was interested by what Chow was about to do and decided to go with Chow. They had many adventures together and became like brothers until about 7 years had past and they had helped a small village with a trouble some ghost. They decided to stay in the village for awhile. During their stay a very attractive young woman was quite smitten by chow and his stories about his travels and his humble and generous nature. Chan on the other hand saw his chance to gain more power of a more direct nature as the young woman was the daughter of a rich family. He decided that he should be the one to marry the beautiful young woman. He went to her father and asked for her hand in marriage. Her father thought that this would be a wonderful arrangement always seeking to help the village as he employed most of the people there. The young woman did not want to marry Chan because she was in love with Chow. Her father was very angry and he locked her up in her bedroom until she came to her senses. He thought Chan would make a much better son-in-law because he saw in him the lust for power and wanted a strong husband for her. That very night she escaped from her window and went to Chow and told him how she was to marry Chan. He believing he could explain the situation to Chan. He went to see Chan. When he arrived at the house of the rich merchant he was attacked buy the guards. He fought them off and then went to the house it self. There he saw Chan waiting for him. "Where have you Hidden her!", yelled Chan. "I have not hidden any one my brother", he said calmly, "I have come to ask you why you ask for this girls hand in marriage." "She is the heir to his fortune. If I marry her I will be rich when he has died.", Chan yelled. "She does not love you and does not wish to marry you.", said Chow. Chan smiled and laughed, "I do not care whether she loves me or not. I am only interested in becoming wealthy." This was a side of Chan that Chow had never seen. Just as he was about to ask why he had started acting like this Chan attacked and that ended the conversation. the battle lasted for about 30 minutes or so and when it was over the house was on fire. Chan was about to be defeated by Chow. Chow had realized he could not win and hurled himself from the balcony they had found themselves on and into the burning house. Chow grabbed his friends hand trying to save him but Chan just smiled and jerked free from him and continued into the fire. Saddened by the events Chow decided to go back to the temple and meditate on what had happened. The young woman left with Chow and they later married. Three years to the day a messenger came to the temple and asked for Chow to come and see his master. Chow was interested by the offer and went to see the man. When he arrived he was surrounded by many men in red uniforms and was brought before the master of this strange cult. When the Red Raven King as he called himself began to speak Chow realized that was his old friend Chan. At first he was happy to hear his voice again for he had thought he had died in the fire so long ago. He was soon disappointed when his friend had told him he was to be killed for causing Chan's horrible disfiguring burns and having to hide behind a mask. just then he was surrounded by many many henchmen of this evil cult his former brother was the leader of he was put in chains and lead down to dungeon below the main building. After Chow had been gone for a few days a few of his fellow monks started looking for him and found that he was going to be killed that very night. They decided to help him escape from this evil cult. In the battle that followed many from both side lay dead or injured but the Red Raven King and his most loyal men had escaped but they had managed to save Chow. Well tell me what you think of the story please! Is sort of the beginning of the whole campaign. Anyway thanks for reading it!
  2. Re: Steam Punk Fantasy Hero I have a name for my Campaign! It is going to be Fantasy by Gaslight! As the Capitol city of the tech kingdom is going to have gas lighting. I am actually excited about actually coming up with a name for the campaign as I am sure ideas will come quicker now. Came up with a map for the campaign with the current look of the Continents that split many eons ago in a large magical catastrophy that split the once large continent. So far I have two sentient Great Anylitical Engines one somewhat on the side of good and one that is evil and bent on the destruction of everything that is not mechanical. And then the added tension of the Magical Kingoms and Empires rediscovering the other half of the continent. Also the Horse Lords and other Nomads and Barbarians that live in the vast steppes of the west. The kingdom with out magic are going a bit of a german feel. While the magical side is going to have a Celtic and maybe Roman feel but mostly Celtic I think. In the sea in the middle is going to be many strange islands where pirates and the undead live and other horrible things left over from the magical catastrophy. Also many strange formations of coral reefs and sea monsters of all types. As for gods I am going to have one god of technology and many celtic type gods & goddesses for the mages. So far I am playing with the Names Dietrech or Adelbrecht for the god of technology. Right now I am concetrating on the Technology side of things and any comments or criticism would be greatly appreciated. Thanx Wolfe-Chan

Re: Steam Punk Fantasy Hero I need some names for cities and countries in my campaign I need some kind of direction for my two continenets politocalls and culturally and I am sorta stumped on which way to take. Any names or cultural directions you can thin of that would develop in a technological society and a magical one? What types of suggestions do you have for me. Please help me out!!!!

Re: Steam Punk Fantasy Hero Well I am leaning toward making my world, where there two continents and on one there is a civilization that is based on technology and one based on Magic and low technology. On the tech continent they are an advanced steam level technological civilization with many clock work marvels of micro engineering. I am not sure where to go with tis idea at the moment. I am also not sure how I want to have the magic continent work yet I have a lot of the basic ideas I need to work on. Seems that making a whole world will be a bigger job then I first thought. Any suggestions on what directions to go?
  5. Re: Your "2006" Pet Gaming Projects Well I have given up on my Iron Kingdoms Conversion.... It was just not what I was looking for in Steampunk Fantasy so I have decided to start from scratch and do my own setting. Still working out a lot of the details and doing a bunch of research on diffrence and analytical engines and what I can do with mechanical computers. Still in the really early stages.   6. Re: Steam Punk Fantasy Hero Thank for the input has been very helpful. As for the Analytical Engine I am doing a bunch of research into that now. Has given me a cool idea about a giant sentient mechanical computer, and some ideas for smaller sentient analytical engines. They will be intricate clock work engines in vehicles and large walking steel golems. The sentient engine builds other smaller engines to help the technocrats but also putting in a little bit of control for itself in each of its designs. or maybe the machines have already rebelled? The designers of the machines will be a guild of engineers that are a little bit loopy that have created all of the Engines and Steam Engines to power them. Well that is what I have for the Technological side for ideas at the moment.
  7. Well I have decided that I don not like the religious tension in the Iron Kingdoms setting. I am going to create my own Steampunk setting which is more to my liking. For instance it will be more Sword & Sorcery then High fantasy as it makes things easier to only have humans in the world. Elves blow chunks anyway. So far I have an idea of Technology Vs. Magic. One kingdom ruled by technology and another by Magic. And the battle between the two with a wrench or wand thrown into the works here and there. On the technological side they will have machines run with difference engines and steampower and other technological wonders. On the Magic side they will have the typical fantasy magic and may be more that everything uses magic. ie. Chariots that are pulled by invisible magical steeds, and other fantastic magical items as regular occurrences. I was wondering what you all thought about such a setting and maybe you all could give me some more ideas to flesh out my ideas. For instance what would you like to see in such a setting? Well hope you have lots of ideas to help me out!
  8. Re: The Age of Man: Need Help! Garm is the dog that guards the realm of Hel in Norse mythology. Fenrir is not really a guard dog more one of the bringers of ragnarok. While Garm guards the gates of Hel, and stops those that are not dead from entering the realm of the dead.

  10. Re: IK Hero? Well I have done more work on my Magic System for Iron Kingdoms. This is what I got so far: Iron Kingdoms Talents 5 Sorcerer (Can cast spells as a sorcerer) Magic Systems Arcane Magic VPP of up to 50 points. Limitations: RSR Magic school skill ½, Concentration ½, Can only Change the pool after 1 hour of study 1½, Need bulky spell book ½. All spells must take Incantations, Gestures, Concentration, RSR Magic School Skill. Magic School Skills One is needed for each school of magic. All are INT based Abjuration Conjuration Divination Enchantment Evocation Illusion Necromancy Transmutation Sorcerer Magic Will be a VPP of no more the 50 points in the pool, Limitations will include RSR EGO based magic skill to change spell pool -½, Extra time 5 minutes to change pool -1, Concentration ½. All spells must take Incantations, Gestures, Concentration. Divine Magic Divine magic will be bought as a VPP that is no more the 50 point pool. Limitations on the Control cost will be OIF Holy symbol -½, After 1hour of meditation 1½, Concentration ½. All spells must take OIF Holy Symbol, Incantations, Gestures, Concentration ¼. Now I am not sure if this will be the final but you will still be able to change your pool in game but it will take a bit of time based on what type of magic you are casting. Extra time is haved because you are only changing the pool and not the spells themselves. I am not sure about on the fly spells(Maybe for Sorcerers).
  11. Re: IK Hero? No the game is not really steam punk esentially more a magical setting with more technology based on Alchemy and Magic.
  12. Re: IK Hero? I see what you mean but with enough extra time it takes to long to change the VPP quickly, ie once a day. That would take away the ease of changing the VPP. Making the System more D&D like but still more versatile then a level based system. It is not really about the steam more the marrying of magic and technology. So in a sense it is a magic heavy campaign setting in that sense. Technology and magic are not mutually exclusive.
  13. Re: IK Hero? As for magic I do not understand why magical item making needs to be the centre of a magic system. It can certainly be an off shoot of a magic system. As for mutipowers in a 150pt game it is really hard to buy good stats & skills and still have enough points for an effective multipower. While with a VPP and extra time and a few other lims. you can create a versatile magic system that cannot be changed on a whim. but more offten then once a scene or once an adventure. Have not even really given this any thoughts yet. Still working on the magic systems mostly.
  14. Re: IK Hero? I am trying to get away from the silly limitation of d20 spells in rthe oh you can only cast this spell so many times a day. End is a very good way to limit spells. You can only cast so many spells before you run out of end and in a heroric campaign even a mage will not have too much endurance so in any given combat he will only be able to cast so many spells. I do think that I am going to change the Arcane Magic to a VPP but just can only change spells once a day. And make the Sorcerors Pool a little more versatile.

Re: Making a Ninja Hero Campaign with Anthro Characters Well as my players have sort of vanished on me I have been taking a break from this campaign for a bit but now I am going to have to start doing some more bachground stuff and maybe a few short stories with my NPC team that is being trained at the temple. I think I will write a story about how the Evil bad guy in the campaign is out to destroy the temple and how he is thwarted buy the NPC team. As well as the relationships between the members of the team and the Monks at the temple. I will keep posting here about the background and if I get the Story off the ground.
  16. Re: Your "2006" Pet Gaming Projects I have been working on making a conversion for Iron Kingdoms from privateer press into Hero. So far it has been kind of a pain as the D20 system is so broken it is hard to take the d20 out sometimes. Tho I have the races done and I am working on the magic systems.
  17. Re: IK Hero? Unfortunitly because they made the setting for d20 there is a lot of setting specific stuff they had to make fit so they molded the setting. So to make the setting work you have to still use the broken magic systems but you do not have to make all the lame spells that are all typed out for you and in levels and such. You do have to try to make the various systems to work with the setting tho. I guess you could just work around the whole lame wizard sorceror-wizard thing but it is used in the camapign setting very extensively. What I tried to do was create a basic magic systems that will work in the setting with to much modification. (I am lazy) Is there any suggestions on doing it differently then I suggested? I would really lie to hear your ideas on what I can do to improve on what I came up with. Thanx Wolfe-Chan
  18. IK Magic Systems? Well I have done a little general magic work for my IK campaign. I so far have three seperate magic system bases for the three different forms of magic: Sorcerous, Arcane, and Divine. Here is what I have so far. Magic Systems Arcane Magic You must have one of the School Skills to cast the appropriate spell if you do not have the spell school skill you can make a roll at 8- to cast a spell you do not have the skill to cast. Spells will be bought like regular powers but the Real cost will be divided by 3 maximum active cost will be 100 points. Must take Incantations ½, Gestures ½, RSR Magic school skill ½, Concentration ¼. Sorcerer Magic Will be a VPP of no more the 50 points in the pool, Limitations will include Gestures -½, Incantations -½, RSR EGO based magic skill to change spell pool -½, Extra time 20 minutes to change pool -2, Concentration ¼. Divine Magic Divine magic will be bought as a VPP that is no more the 50 point pool. Limitations on the Control cost will be OIF Holy symbol -½, Gestures -½, Incantations -½, Can only change the pool once a day after 20 minutes of meditation -4, Concentration ¼. Now I have not done any work on spells so far themselves but as I really do not like the limiting way spells are done in D&D I will probably just let the Characters come up with there own spells or help them make some. Please tell me what you think of the basic ideas I have here and any suggestions to further make the magic systems more Ik'ish. I am still reading threw the book so I will have to stop here till I get that done but should be soon tho.

I was wondering what peoples opinion on Packages are I am not sure I should even bother working on specific packages for things like professions or character archetypes there seems to be no point in 5e revised to make packages worth taking. They are a lot of work and if no one is going to bother taking them it would be a lot of work for nothing. Should I put the work in or just work more on the magic and more setting oriented skills and talents and let the players define who and what they are? Just wondering what people thought...

  21. Re: IK Hero? I am working on Converting it now I am picking my copy of the IKCG tomorrow and should have most of the packages done by next week. As long as I do not get to board. I am looking at doing things a might sparce for package deals as I like them to be small and not take to many points. Still trying to figure out what kind of Magic System I will want to use not sure what would be good and cool. Any suggestions? And as for feats I will probably just ignore that stuff and just work on skills and package stuff for different professions in the Iron Kingdoms. eg Cygnarian Military packages and such. And specific skills that you need to do certain things. I want to have a talent that you will have to buy if you want to be a Warcaster. Maybe a Mechanik talent as well. Still debating on that stuff I am starting with the racial packages and working from there. How about damage conversions? Not sure how to do that. Wolfe-Chan
  22. Re: IK Hero? It is a Chameleon like ability not sure how to implimet it in Hero. They get a +4 bonus to Hide checks when they are not wearing any clothes.
