  1. So I assume that no one plays with random hit locations, since those GMs who are foolish enough to will have all their players spending 8 points to get their killing attacks to do 2x body and either 4x or 5x stun?
  2. One of my players posted this in Steve's forum. Opinions? http://www.herogames.com/forums/topic/90271-penalty-skill-levels/ Posted Today, 06:56 PM Specifically for cancelling penalties to Hit Locations. 1pt PSL - Hit Locations - Martial Strike If I buy a 1 point PSL to cancel hit location penalties with a specific maneuver, I assume that it cancels any hit location penalties, right? Or do I have to specify something like "Head" in the PSL? Thanks! Like This Report
  3. Equipment, weapons, and armor book. I think too much focus is put on the sizzle and not enough on the steak. If you want to do anything historical (Roman legions, pirates, etc) spells and monsters are worthless.
  4. The setting was described by one player "Fantasy Post-Apocalyptic," so they are on the more primitive end of the scale now. So if everyone wants to use 2h'd clubs one handed, go for it. The fad will die out eventually.
  5. That is up to the individual players. If they all want to be wielding 2hers in one hand, without any crunchy rules, I don't feel that I should stop them.
  6. Why shouldn't ever Fantasy warrior buy up their STR by 3 so that they can wield the 2hed version of their preferred weapon, while still having a shield? Is this the only "book" rule for stopping every fighter from going full "Hollywood" and using huge weapons in one hand? 6E2 199 states: A Long Sword does 1d6+1 HKA with 12 STR Min. The Great Sword is 2d6, with a bonus +1 OCV, with a 17 STR Min. Since most warriors want to have high strength, why not go straight for 20 STR, then get maneuvers and bonus DCs to max out your damage at 4d6 HKA one handed?
  7. I feel that the joke is going to be on me when I buy the book.........
  8. I am running a fantasy game with a group who has never played Hero System before. I was explaining to them how in Fantasy Hero, the power levels for characters is less then the power level for characters in Champions. I had decided to start them off with 40 Activate Point Limit, but then some of the players pointed out that using a 2-Handed weapon with Haymaker and a few DC skill levels, you can break the 40AP Limit. How do you address power level limits in FH? Do you just keep mages and clerics to the 40pt AP limit and let the warriors go bananas with their 4d6 HKAs?
  9. In other RPGs, there are game mechanics that allow players to act as a tank. Standing in front of the squishier PCs and stopping enemies from streaking past them to attack the squishies. Usually, when a combatant comes within 1 hex of another enemy, his movement ends. Also, if the same combatant uses his next action to move past the blocker, the blocker gets to punish him with a free attack. I see no mechanics like this in Hero. Am I correct?
  10. Thank you for that. I just bought the Ultimate Base. While a great resource, it wasn't really the direction I wanted to go. I don't want the players to have to sink so many points into their lands. I was more feeling like, player A spending 5 points to unlock the ability to purchase followers from their land that could start with an improved template (apprentice mage, ogre, etc.) that would be normally restricted. Or player B wanting to spend 10 points to have a tradition of iron working in her land, which would increase the availability of arms and armor to her and her followers (potentially increasing any rating of soldiers raised from her domain.)

  12. I posted this in the Fantasy forum: http://www.herogames.com/forums/forum/genres/fantasy-hero/3579594-fantasy-kingdoms but then I thought that it has cross-genre application, so I thought I would post it here. -------------------------------------- I am working on a low-level campaign, which eventually I want the heroes to be able to carve out their own empires in the world. I was thinking that they would be able to spend some their points on their lands, sort of like spending points on bases, followers, or vehicles (and of course, be able to have complications as well). I am curious about other game masters who have done this and what sorts things they let their players buy for their empires. So, I guess I am asking for links to other discussions about similar topics, or to hear your ideas.

  14. Does anyone know where I could look for some examples of combat? Write ups or videos.
  15. I am going to be running a low power Hero game after not running one since 1st Ed. Is there any place where I could read or watch some combat tutorials? (Preferably in Fantasy Hero, not Champions) Also, I am having a hard time finding the search function on the website.
  16. Just bought it and am reading it. How much of the book is based on actually mythos? Is it just the names Atlantis and Lemuria, with the rest being modern day fiction?
  17. A noob question, but what are you referring to with Atlantean Age?
  18. Are there HERO System modules made for any of the VTTs out there?
  19. Re: Swords and Sorcery Setting Thank you to Steve and everyone else for all of the great info. The "Sword and the Sorcerer" was an epic movie when I was a kid. Thanks for pulling that one out. Gonna look for it on Netflicks.
  20. Re: Looking For Input On Potential New Fantasy Product To more strongly illustrate my point, the reason the system was renamed to Hero from Champions was to make the game more of a universal game system. By making Fantasy Hero a sub-sect of Champions, you are doing a whole lot of backtracking. Fantasy Hero needs to stand on its own if you want the Hero System to be more then a super hero game.
  21. Re: Looking For Input On Potential New Fantasy Product With regards to the original post, I would say option #1. I have recently come back to the hero system after being gone since 1st Edition Champions. I am mainly interested in bringing my gaming group on board, who have never played. It would be a lot easier for me to get this group of "fantasy junkies" bought on if there was just one book for them. Currently, I am planning on using Basic Rule Book, Fantasy Hero, Martial Arts, Equipment Guide, Skills, Bestiary, and the Grimoire. But I would love to tell my players to just get Fantasy Complete.
  22. I am looking at running a company in the "Swords and Sorcery" fantasy setting. What would be good inspirational material for my players? I already told them about about the following movies: Conan the Barbarian http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082198/?ref_=sr_2 Fire and Ice (an animated movie done in the style of the 70s animated Lord of the Rings) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085542/ Can anyone else think of any good setting material for the fantasy genre?
