  1. Re: THE BOOK OF THE EMPRESS -- What Do *You* Want To See?

Well' date=' no need to get too worried about it yet. Writing the whole thing is going to take weeks (especially with GenCon getting in the way), so it's not as if I won't have time to incorporate new suggestions that come in. That point will come, but we're not there yet. However, the more I write, the less likely I am to take further suggestions, since once things are "down on paper" it's not usually worth the extra work to change 'em.[/quote']

Weeks? You're Steve Long, it'll take two days at most...

  2. Re: Ok GM's weigh in. We've been talking players CvK...how do you handle these things

Let's take a look at this from the other perspective.

How do our resident GM's handle PC killing and not?

I've seen at least one GM who doesn't think CvK is playable, and a few who disagree.

For a Supers Genre game, how do you handle lethality? Are mass murderers given long careers because you enjoy the character? Are players held responsible for their actions but never rewarded for playing their CvK well? Do you reward players for reigning in the body count?

I haven't run games much but to tell the truth I never had a Joker like villain. I had a few murderers who when captured disappeared while I made a new villain.

I tried to keep the idea of "Reoccurring Villain" without falling into "Players accomplish squat but the status quo."

Not always successfully :) This is why I play more than GM.

CVK is very playable, even at Very Common and Total. My PC speedster, BlueStreak, who has a VC/T CVK has been know to speed even injured villains off the battlefield to the hospital, then rejoin the fight.

  3. Re: Palladum to Hero Conversion thread

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to download useful files in case Emperor KS (Psych Lim Egomania' date=' Very Common, Total) decides to unleash his Legions of Terror against these boards.[/quote']

I don't think we would have to worry. Don't forget Steve Long is a actually a lawyer.

  4. Re: Three Musketeers in Outer Space

Hell looking at it that way there's really no reason that one couldn't do that with the basic Traveller Imperium setting (Before the crappy fractured Imperium of Mega Traveller). The setting already has the idea of Nobility who run sectors of space. There's mercenary squadruns running around. Cutlass and other blade skills indeed are still used because of fear of piercing the hull/damaging fragile starship equipment with weapon's fire. Also the law levels of many of the "civilized" worlds of the imperium ban projectiles, but allow bladed weapons to be carried. Also the idea of Patrons who fund/direct the PC's is very well established. Just make that person a noble who is in covert (or semi-covert) struggle against a rival. (ie open war on the planets that the PCs and their Mercs wage war against other Mercs funded by their patron's rivals). Back in the capital planet, both the PCs and the Opposition do everything to make the others look bad.

Sounds fun and a refreshing way to look at a Traveller Campaign.

And of course there's always the Imperial Warrant.

  5. Re: Does your campaign world have a S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Besides UNTIL, I have a strictly European international organization: ELECTRA- European Law-Enforcement and Counter-Terrorism Response Authority. ELECTRA also has its own superteam, Pax Europa. ELECTRA's head, Sir Arthur Knight, is- unbeknownst to any of the organization- the British superhero Union Jack (a British "Captain America"-type complete with a Union Jack-bedecked shield).

  6. Re: TV Characters to Fantasy Hero NPCs

    allow me to present....

"captain" reginald malcolm. He has played many roles in his life; warrior, bandit, paladin, father confessor. Currently leads an itinerant band of rapscallions, malcontents, and all around upstanding citizens styling themselves the tranquility trading company. Includes hoban the unwashed, the wisecracking teamster; hoban's wife, zenobia, also the captain's right-hand woman, and excellent, if ruthless, swordswoman; the lady inara, a high class courtesan; father libros, himself an itinerant priest with a mysterious past; brooke, a "touched" young woman with unreliable and strange magical powers; her brother simeon, a physician and healer; ceilidh, a strapping farm girl who happens to be an amazing artisan; and giane, a hulking ogre of a man, sword for hire.

    shiny!!!!!

  7. Re: Yet Another PA Campaign Idea

Since the announced release of PA Hero, I've had this idea rattling around my brain and I need to set it down, so I thought I'd share. The idea's more Apocalyptic than Post-, but here it is anyway.

For some reason, one solitary aspect of physics goes away. Electricity won't flow along metal conductors. Computers, cars, planes, trains, cell phones, electric lights, radios, elevators, etc all die. Just quit working totally. Batteries won't discharge, generators won't supply power. Lightning will still strike, electricity will jump an air gap just like always, but wiring is just so much inert matter. For reasons nobody may ever learn the whole world is thrown back to the start of the industrial revolution.

My problem is I don't know where to take it from there. Any thoughts, ideas, opinions?

Try the book "Ariel" by Stephen Boyette.

  8. Re: Daily Art Findings

    Ditto.

I don't know, Mike. I just picked up a bunch of AutoDuel Quarterly's at a convention charity auction, and there was a familiar name at the bottom of some of the illustrations of heavily armed vehicles...

  9. Re: Champions Assemble!

The characters are students at a School For Gifted Students. They all wear what look like class rings, with the stone a default green.

The rings are multipurpose: they are communicators, they are alert signals, and they are tracking beacon.

When a character sends an alert, it is one of three levels. The stone changes color for each level.

GREEN: The stone lights up (dimly) and emits a mild vibration. Green level means, I've got a problem, and if anyone isn't too busy with something else, please join me.

YELLOW: The stone changes to dimly glowing yellow, also vibrates, slightly stronger. Yellow means, I've got a pretty big problem, please drop anything not absolutely important and get to me asap.

RED: Changes to glowing red, vibrates strongest yet. Red means, all available team members, drop whatever you're doing and get your butts here yesterday, loaded for bear.

The rings can home in on each other (a DETECT), and as previously stated, are also communicators.

  10. Re: What are _____ like in your game?

Dwarves are pseudo-scottish, complete with kilts and th' pipes. They are the most technologically advanced race- they have flintlock firearms and primitive steam engines.

Elves are fairly typical elves, but are also similar to American Indians- wood elves wear buckskins & beads, sea elves live and dress like South Seas Islanders, etc.

I don't have halflings, but rather a small race called "kif", which sort of combine halfling & kender (but not the bad parts of kender!).

  11. Re: Pulparize It!

Anti-Nazi German citizen Sigfried Falken steals the top-secret, two-man autogyro "Luftwolfe", and along with his mechanic Dominico Santorini (formerly of Fascist Italy) fly the stolen autogyro against the Third Reich.

    Any guesses?...
