Re: Quote of the Week From My Life.
A fine example of Missing The Point™...
Mom: I want to get a bicycle.
Step-Dad: Wouldn't something like a Vespa be better?
Mom: I want the exercise!

Re: Musings on Random Musings
That's the first (and up til BBC America) only Who I'm familiar with. Of the new Whos I like them all but am a bit disappointed that Ecclestone didn't stay more than one series.JG
When I was growing up in South Jersey in the 80's, the Philadelphia PBS station ran Dr. Who. Not only the then-current stuff with Tom Baker, but the older shows, as well. It lost my interest with Doctor #6 (that outfit was *too* much, and I simply didn't like #7 much at all. By the time it was rekindled, I never had regular TV access, so I never got see much of the nw stuff, though what I *did* see was much to my liking.

Re: The cranky thread
My wife wants to end our marriage' date=' and I'm starting to come to terms with that. When I'm not sad, I'm cranky, so I guess this goes here. [/quote']When relationships end, including... especially... marriages, it is almost always for the best for all parties involved in the long-run. That having been said, it is a deeply painful and truly sucktastic period of time to endure to get to the point where you truly feel that way. You have my empathy.

Take it from a fat guy who's now (finally) actually losing weight; a lot of things can be mistaken for appetite. I agree' date=' however, that none whatsoever is not a good sign, unless you've just eaten.[/quote']My lady and I have been on the Atkins diet for 6 weeks, now. And, yeah, I'm right there with you that not all appetite is good or healthy... especially when it hits you an hour after gorging one's self on high protein foods.

I *do* want kids... Chicago-style...You murder the parents with a Tommy gun, take pity on the crying infants, and take them in as you own??
Or is that Chicago gang style I'm thinking about...?

Re: Quote of the Week From My Life.
You need some new ties. Though I do have some boots that old.I do have some newer ones, I just never got rid of some of the older ones that still look good. Fortunately, the last time I had to wear a tie was to my last job interview, almost 7 years ago. And, IIRC, I wore one of my really old ties.

Re: Quote of the Week From My Life.
At work today, one of my co-workers was looking for a gizmo one of my other co-workers had. So, the second co-worker goes digging through the piles on his desk. As he finds it and hands it over he says...
"Here it is! It was behind my junk."

Re: The cranky thread
Some weeks I think the universe is actively trying to drive me insane.I've heard it said: "Forget all this nonsense about 'God loves us!' and 'There's a reason for everything.' If one simply accepts the fact that The Universe is a vile, bitter and hateful being which holds a personal grudge against each and every one of us for existing, all of a sudden, things make a lot more sense."
For the record, I don't believe it. But even as a thought-experiment, it's pretty hard to come up with any truly compelling evidence against it.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
The accordion and bagpipes: evil or just misunderstood? Tortuous' date=' certainly, perhaps fiendish, but evil? [/quote']I propose that these instruments are evil only when played poorly. That having been said, as it takes tons of practice to learn to play most instruments well, that's a lot of evil to suffer through before you reach the "not-so-bad" stage. However, when played well, bagpipes are 'effin epic.
As for the accordion... no, not epic, but if Weird Al can make it work in his music, it can't be all bad.

And it keeps on coming.Just found out the owner of a store in Santa Cruz who'd been considering carrying my work was stabbed to death in broad daylight down the street from her boutique.
She was 38, and one the good guys. Damn.
Speechless.

Re: Quote of the Week From My Life.
My lady and I were sleeping in cabins last week. The morning after a rather chilly evening, this discussion transpired...
Lady: I was so cold last night! I had on my football jersey, and I was still freezing. Once I changed into a cotton T-shirt, though, I was warmer. Why do you suppose that it? It is the materials they make the jerseys from?
Me: Could be the fact that football jerseys are well ventilated with lots of tiny holes to help disperse heat may have had something to do with it, too.
Lady: :: blink blink :: Oh yeah... they are, aren't they?
And this coming from the lady who's a much bigger football fan than I am.
