Re: Quote of the Week From My Life.
Out for a drive with the wife...
Me: There seems to be a severe paucity of those.
Wife: What does "paucity" mean?
Me: ::chuckles:: Dearth.
Wife: ::snarls:: That was not helpful!

Re: [LoH] Run Info
We'll skip the next three weeks and let the runs rest awhile' date=' given the low participation rates lately.[/quote']I've always been interested... it's just that none of the ruins have ever been scheduled when I'm available to do them Starting things at 7pm Pacific time is 10pm Eastern time - my time - which is when I need to be winding down for bed, not starting up long missions. And all the weekend runs fall neatly on times when I am otherwise engaged.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
Are you sure your wife isn't trying to tell you something?Let's put it like this: she's not the kind of lady who would do something passive-aggressive like put me on a mailing list. She'd buy the pills and pumps, herself, along with instructions on their use, and leave it all in a nice, big clearly-labeled box, on my desk. At work.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
Did you turn off your spam filter for some reason? Or did a piece of malware do it for you?No to the first, and all my malware sweeps are coming up clean. Hopefully, it was nothing more harmful than a spam site getting my e-mail address. G-mail is pretty good at catching the spam - it's just rather alarming to see my normal daily spam folder go up to 15-20 pieces caught daily as opposed to the normal 2-5.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
On the down-side, the tonwhome we're living in has mold, and the landlord is being half-assed about dealing with it. On the plus side, not wanting the be sued if my wife* collapses from an asthma attack, he has "generously" released us from our lease, so we are free to move. If all goes well, we'll be moving here (1 bedroom 1 bath units) before the month is over.
* We've had a spiritual hand-fasting, but are not legally married. Yet.

Re: The cranky thread
It happened to me' date=' too. Financially speaking, sometimes it's a kick-you-when-you're-down world, and just about the only thing you can do is be thankful that there's someone, [i']anyone[/i], willing to help you get back up. This is hardly your own fault: medical expenses are one of the leading causes (maybe the #1 cause) of financial hardships in the US. Please don't listen to any of those blame-the-victim idiots who insist that you "should have avoided" this situation.I've had to borrow money from my mother a number of times over the years, too. I hate doing it, and I'm never proud about it, but when its the difference between paying the bills or getting kicked out for failing to pay the rent, there isn't much of a choice. And it isn't like I'm financially irresponsible, either: I've had the same job for 6.5 years, now, I'm not one for frivolous spending, and I keep a very tight budget which I manage with a spreadsheet where needed expenses and projected income are plotted out months-to-a-year in advance. Thing is, I do not make enough $$ to have any savings, so I live paycheck-to-paycheck, and those unexpected expenses can do ugly things to my budget.
Sometimes, life happens. And "life" is a four-letter-word.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
Right, he set the standard. It's like derriding Iron Maiden for being Metal Stereotypes...they invented the stereotype.even though I don't like Springsteen's music as much as say...Sammy Hagar; I can accept his place in the pantheon based on his originality. You must have done something right if there are a bunch of clones.
I can't go so far as to call him over-rated: he was pretty unique in his early days, and as Chad observes, if he has folks emulating his style, he must have been doing something right. You also have to give the man serious credit for still doing 3-hour long shows at his age. All that having been said, his music just doesn't really do a thing for me. Never has.

Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster
I don't get the relevance of a chain-link fence in the sky with the caption...This is not simply a, "No, you cannot come in," but an additional, "and we're putting up a fence to illustrate just how strongly we mean 'no', and to also deny you entry even if you continue to not get the message."
