  1. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous)

That is interesting - I understand that Japanese has gendered language and different words are used depending on the sex on the speaker and/or subject.

Are Yuri and Yaori the female versions of those words?

Excuse me for being anal (no laughing...) as I describe the four forms of Japanese slash:

Yaoi: Male/male, greater emphasis on sex.

Shounen-Ai/Boys Love: Male/male, greater emphasis on the relationship,

Yuri (American definition): Female/female, emphasis on sex.

Shoujo-Ai (American term): Female/female, emphasis on relationship.

Yuri (Japanese definition): Either of the above female/female terms.

    Ending anality (again, don't laugh)

  2. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call

That, and Jim Carrey can't act. (YMMV)

The only Jim Carrey spot I could see him in would be Black Harlequin, simply because it seems so much like The Mask, which is the last movie I recall Jim Carrey being decent in.

Actually, Carrey can act if allowed to. Just watch the Majestic. That's Carrey at his best. Now, as far as comedy, yeah. He sucks there. the Mask was the only exception, and that was only because of the CGI. But The Truman Show and The Majestic are two very good movies. In my opinion.

  3. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call

I don't know if he has to be a comedian so much as a comic actor-- or possibly even a serious actor playing the inherent ridiculousness straight-faced (after all Foxbat sees himself in quite a dramatic way).

    Personally, I'm thinking Patrick Warburton.

Or, in a Champions animated movie, Foxbat would have to be voiced by Mark Hamill (the Joker)

  4. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call

Foxbat would have to be played by a comedian of some sort. Maybe Jim Carrey (though he is better in his serious roles).

Maybe have director Uwe Boll star as one of the villains, so the veiwer can take satisfaction in watching the man who wrecked so many video-game liscenses get wrecked himself.

  5. Re: "Sleeper" Genres

And I'll third it. Though right now you could probably do something with the various species templates in Fantasy and Space HERO.

Yes, and I would say that Star Hero, oddly ehough, has a greater fur factor-than Fantasy Hero, despite furries being more prominent in fantasy. (of course, my definition is more along the lines of a direct animal appearance.)

  6. I have a character idea, but I spotted a potential problem that could be a pain for a GM to deal with.

The idea: Take a Giant Tansforming Robot (along the lines of Transformers). To accomplish this, you create a vehicle (with Ultimate Vehicle) as the character's multiform, and choose a size template to fit the vehicle Size (using Fantasy Hero or Star Hero).

The Problem: Because these robots are big, they cannot fit into any buildings. The other PCs can, but that leaves the player of the robot out of the action.

So far, there are three solutions to a problem like this.

    1) The GM does something to occupy the Robot. This, for a GM, is nothing short of a pain, so let's scrap that one.

    2) The player buys a follower who is a human. Unfortunately, the companion is an NPC and is considerably weaker than the PC.

    3) The player buys a second, human Multiform that, when assumed, leaves the robot behind. Problem is, this goes against the very grain of Multiform, which does not leave behind a "Main Body"

What would you guys do if you wanted to play a GTR in a champions game but sidestep this problem without Incomveniencing the GM?

  7. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous)

Chick Flick Hero (Will Foxbat cast aside his delusion for the girl of his dreams?)

Surrealist Champions (Is the real world really a comic book? Is Foxbat "The One?" Oh dear sweet god let's hope not!)

Goth Hero (No, no vampires here. Just moping and blogging and buying the latest Cradle of Filth Album.)

Celebrity Hero (be the biggest, richest butthole you can be! Must buy at least one Dependance and at least 200 points in Psychological limitations.) :P

  8. Re: Concepts you wish your players would play

Hehe... sorry. I had hoped that by sharing my success that others might find hope and dig deep to find the drive to...

...okay. I was rubbing it in.

And, after careful consideration, a super-intelligent talking ape makes a much better supervillain than a superhero (no offense to D-Watts or Dr. Silverback) so I don't think I'd want one as a PC. (Although, as my companions will attest, I like the monkeys so much that I'd probably just go ahead and allow both.)

Out of curiosity, what is it with comic books and apes?

  9. Re: Concepts you wish your players would play

I've always wanted a player to make a character with super intelligence.... and utilize super intelligence!

Just never seems to work out that way.

Well, we mere mortals don't have super-intelligence, so it's hard to imagine super intelligence in any way other than Wile E. Coyote, who also has 100,000d6 Unluck.

  10. Re: Crazy campaign ideas (Silly or serious)

    Chibi Champions

Our heroes are Super-Deformed (big heads, little bodies) and CUTE! Not only must they fight crime and save the city every day, but they must also flee the fanboys and fangirls who think they are SO KYOOT!

Imagine the SPAWN type, chibi-ized, trying to be all menacing, only to be glomped (tackle-hugged) by a fangirl.

Or imagine Ghost Rider, using the "Puppy-Dog-Eyes-of-Doom!"

  11. Re: Hybrid Characters

I prefer characters that don't fit nicely in one archetype.

Makes playing CoV hard. Stupid class-based system.

I know nothing of CoV, but if if you hate supers and classes, then do everything to avoid Heroes Unlimited. Let's just say I developed a distain for it.

  12. Re: Your PC's might be underpowered if...

If humiliation, rape, torture and death is the absolute best your characters can hope for, and that's when facing the playground bullies they need to pass on the way to the super battle, they might be underpowered.

Or, you're playing an Iron Age campaign with an unemployed twenty-something GM.

    Whichever.

    That GM has Issues.

  13. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous)

    Cardboard Hero

I think Gurps has that as a line of Miniatures, including some Champions characters. :P

    Actually, that's Cardboard Heroes. Oops.

Euphamistic Hero, if you know what I mean...

Heaven Hero (the place seems awfully boring.)

    Hell Hero (too depressing)

Katamari Hero (all you do is roll-up huge balls of junk and turn them into stars. Absolutely not for those with Codes against Killing.)

  14. Re: Crazy campaign ideas (Silly or serious)

    Woodland Champions

Utterly random thought: Why should sentient beings have all the superpowers?

Possible answer: Decades ago, mutagenic waste was dumped into a forest site, and the nutagens altered the animals of the forest. Some of them developed intellect and some among the some have developed superpowers. The intelligent animals formed a society with laws and other systems mirroring our own, and those with the powers became champions of the society (well, those who willingly became protectors...).

Think of it as TMNT on a wider scale.
