  1. Re: Fallout Hero (6E) Real Weapon just means that the weapon requires constant maintenance to keep it working. Failure to do maintenance means that sooner or later the weapon will malfunction causing harm to the user. Focus is used for every item from weapons to armor to sunglasses. It defines a power into a single object. Powers without the Focus limitation are part of the character. Focus also means that depending upon the type of focus it is will determine if it can be broken and stolen. An example of a focus would be the M4 Carbine. It's a Ranged-Killing Attack that isn't a natural part of the character, so it's written up with the Focus limitation. Usually, the focus for the M4 is that it's Obvious and Accessible, which means that people know exactly that the M4 did the attack not sunglasses a character is wearing. Accessible just means that someone can try to grab the weapon from the character and remove it. Inherent is the opposite of a Focus in a way. It is applied to persistent powers and is a natural, inherent part of the character's being. Always on means that you can never turn the power off no matter what you do to the character.
  2. Re: What is the best way to stat out a minefield? The easiest way is to build a single mine then use the doubling rule for how many mines are actually in the minefield. I would assign a difficulty modifier of 0 to -4 to a regular Dexterity check, depending upon how many mines are actually placed in the area, to avoid stepping on a mine. The other option is to map out the area ahead of time and place each of the mines on the map, but I'd still use a Dex check to see if someone actually steps on a mine. Detonating a mine will just remove one of the mines and leave the remaining mines unaffected.
  3. Re: FFW Body Armor? Here's an example of using compound powers from my upcoming setting book Inceptum Terminus: Chronicles of the New Confederation. Light Full Body Armor: (Total: 18 Active Cost, 11 Real Cost) Resistant Protection (4 PD/4 ED) (8 Active Points); OIF Durable (-½), Half Mass (-½), Real Armor (-¼) (Real Cost: 3) plus Life Support (Self-Contained Breathing) (10 Active Points); IIF Durable (-¼) (Real Cost: 8) Each of the sections in the compound power are built normally with each section having its own advantages and limitations. The first section is just the defensive protection of the armor, the second contains the self contained breathing. Here's a sample of the power armor I created for the book. Both sets of armor are cover the entire body. Light Powered Battle Armor: (Total: 88 Active Cost, 47 Real Cost) Resistant Protection (8 PD/8 ED/8 Power Defense) (Protect Carried Items) (34 Active Points); OIF Durable (-½), Half Mass (-½), Real Armor (-¼) (Real Cost: 15) plus Ultrasonic Perception (Hearing Group) (3 Active Points); IIF Durable (-¼) (Real Cost: 2) plus Life Support (Safe in High Pressure; Safe in High Radiation; Safe in Intense Cold; Safe in Intense Heat; Safe in Low Pressure/Vacuum; Self-Contained Breathing) (19 Active Points); IIF Durable (-¼) (Real Cost: 15) plus High Range Radio Perception (Radio Group) (12 Active Points); Affected as Sight and Hearing Groups as well as Radio Group (-¾), IIF Durable (-¼) (Real Cost: 6) plus Radar (Radio Group) (15 Active Points); Affected as Sight and Hearing Groups as well as Radio Group (-¾), IIF Durable (-¼) (Real Cost: 7) plus Infrared Perception (Sight Group) (5 Active Points); Affected as Sight and Hearing Groups as well as Radio Group (-¾), IIF Durable (-¼) (Real Cost: 2) You can do a lot with compound powers like you can with power pools. The thing that I really like about compound powers is that it makes the character sheet less cluttered and confusing since you don't have to try to figure out which of the powers goes in the armor or equipment and which ones don't. It's especially beneficial when you have characters that have a lot of powers either naturally or in the form of equipment.
  4. Re: FFW Body Armor? You would build each section in the compound power just like you would if it was a separate piece of equipment. You pick the power and the advantages/limitations for that slot normally. To find the total for the compound power is to add up all of the sections together for the final cost. For your armor, the compound armor sections would be body armor, helmet, radar, gas mask, radio, night vision, etc... Just total up each of the sections for the final cost. With a compound power it is possible to have completely different advantages and limitations for each section. Just remember that a compound power doesn't give you a cost break like a multi-power pool does.
  5. Re: How To Build: Mind Wipe I would build it like this for a basic one at 1d6, but feel free to increase the amount of dice: Severe Transform 1d6 (Mind wipes target's mind, Healed back by Time), Attack versus Alternate Defense (Mental Defense; +0), Improved Results Group (+1/4), Alternate Combat Value (uses OMCV against DMCV; +1/4), Time Limit (5 Minutes; +1) Cost: 37 Active Points
  6. Re: FFW Body Armor? The only way to put them together into a single power would be to use the compound power build. Basically, a compound power is multiple powers built into a single power build. With a compound power, all of the powers can operate at the same time since there isn't a pool of points like there is with multi-power/variable power pool.
  7. Re: Where are the large-scale combat rules in 6th/where will they be? It is a viable tactic, but it can be done no matter the scale you use. When I refer to scale I'm referring to individual combat up to entire fleets/divisions. Of course, this naturally increases the distances that each inch equals to.
  8. Re: Where are the large-scale combat rules in 6th/where will they be? For smaller combats of like two to five spacecraft, it would be individual miniatures using the standard 2m scale. For full squadrons, the size of what each inch equals would increase while having a single miniature on the table to represent them. Attacks with area of effect would fit within the scale used, so no need for spread.

  11. Stepping out of the time stream with his G-10 Gauss Assault Rifle at the ready, Slipstream appeared behind the corporate traitor and put two rounds into his head. The traitor’s body collapsed into a heap on the ground. Slipstream could hear movement coming from behind him and felt his body tense up as he stepped back into the time stream. All around him, he could feel the confused Underworld goons trying to get the drop on him. They could have if he didn’t use his gifted abilities of being able to move forward into the time stream two to six seconds at a time. He maneuvered behind an Underworld goon with his rifle at the ready and stepped out of the time stream once again. He squeezed the trigger and felt the slugs recoil against his shoulder then rip into the body of the goon ahead. “Two down and seven more to go,” he thought. Before he could react, a loud boom echoed from his left two meters away as a proximity mine went off. The resulting blast shredded his armored clothing and left gaping holes. Whatever protection he had going into this firefight was now gone. Laser bolts and gauss slugs ripped into the large metal dumpsters surrounding his last target and the volume of fire built up. Quickly, Slipstream stepped back into the time stream’s protection and sought out his next target. Five meters away to the northeast was another goon hiding behind some barrels, so he quickly walked behind his next target. As he prepared to step out of the time stream he felt his power nullifier turn itself on and he was dumped into real time. “What the hell?” Slipstream thought as two bolts bypassed his armor and he felt the searing hot pain of the wounds in his chest… ©2010 RLL & Partners All Rights Reserved
  12. Alyssa stood at the opening to her small cell while looking at her surroundings warily. She stood four foot eleven inches tall and weighed 85 pounds with barely enough meat on her bones to cover her sparse skeletal frame. Her long brown hair and beautiful white teeth had fallen out a long time ago from malnourishment because her captors would only feed her enough food to keep her alive, barely. Something was different about today as if the air had changed. Outside her cell door stood two of her jailers wearing military grade heavy power armor with one carrying a shock prod and the other armed with a laser rifle. Both weapons were aimed at her chest. Sensing the hatred emanating from these cold figures she would comply with whatever orders they issued. “Step out with your hands raised mutant!” one of the jailers commanded. She took a tentative step outside of her small cell expecting the worst. She was not disappointed as the shock prod connected with her stomach that sent waves of pain over her entire body. Unable to stand the electrical assault she collapsed into a heap on the muddy ground outside her door. She felt the cold moisture in the ground seep into her sparse prison uniform; chilling her to the bone. Unexpectedly, the butt of the rifle slammed into the back of her skull and a low moan escaped from her lips. Alyssa immediately regretted it as another blow landed in roughly the same place. Her head swam as she tried valiantly to get control over her body. Near where she lay, she could hear someone yell, “Enough!” A tall sergeant stepped from behind the two jailers and peered down, unconcerned for her well-being. She took a deep breath and regretted it immediately. The air hung with the taste of burnt flesh and the smells of human excrement mixed with it. Alyssa resisted the urge to vomit as the bile rose in her throat. She stood up slowly while gagging from the smell and taste that assailed her. In the space of a split second, the guards fell to the ground as wounds opened up in their chests. Unable to see their reactions to their violent deaths because of their helmets; she stood there dazed and confused. She felt someone lift her body off the ground as her ears finally let in the sounds around her. Alyssa could hear the noise of battle around her and felt the warm touch dry her soaked uniform followed by the feeling of the wind against her face. ©2010 RLL & Partners All Rights Reserved
  13. Re: How to handle infiltration? (Mass Combat Rules Question) Thank y'all for the replies and I forgot completely about using stealth.
  14. I was curious on how to handle infiltrating units for Mass Combat. I have a branch of the military that does covert operations like human intelligence gathering, assassinations, and other black ops. I would like to have them have the choice of starting on the battlefield where ever the owning player wishes to place them. How would you handle infiltration in this manner?
  15. I'm confused by the rules regarding a Kingdom's Con. How many people does each point of Con represent? I ask because I didn't see a table for it in the book. Thank ya Steve for answering my question in advance.
  16. Re: Hero System Modern Mass Combat Testing I just bought Ultimate Base in pdf and read the kingdom rules. I think that it could work. Whenever a kingdom maneuver occurs, instead of using the resolution process, you would fight the battle with the Mass Combat rules.
  17. Re: Hero System Modern Mass Combat Testing The rules I used are in Fantasy Hero 5E.
  18. I would like to note that this was written for other sites I visit that aren't familiar with Hero System. I spent about an hour testing out the Hero System Mass Combat rules and I was very surprised at how fast it went. It took about 20 minutes to get through almost a full turn with Speed 3 and 4 units. The two sides were about evenly matched points wise. I used the factions, infantry, and vehicles that are in my, soon-to-be published, setting book Inceptum Terminus: Chronicles of the New Confederation. The New Confederation fielded 2x12 man squads and an M-255 Kodiak Heavy Armored Anti-Gravity Vehicle. Their opponents was the High Plains Alliance, which fielded 2x12 man squads and 2 M-244 Lynx Light Armored Anti-Gravity Infantry Fighting Vehicles. The battle was fought on a 4'x8' surface on the outskirts of a small town. Due to how Hero System handles who goes first, the majority of initiative wins went to the New Confederation. Hero System uses a Speed Chart and every unit has a Speed characteristic. Each turn is divided up into 12 segments and a unit is assigned a specific segment to go on which is called a Phase. A turn is 12 seconds long in individual combat, but is 48 seconds long for squad battles due to scaling. Initiative during a single segment is determined by the unit's Dexterity. Since all the units, of their type, were identical stat-wise I had to roll a d6 for each side with the highest going first. A unit can do 2 half phase actions like move and shoot or a unit can do a full phase action like running its full move. Hero System presents plenty of options for a unit to do during its phase like ramming and other things. Moving quickly, the Kodiak held the center of the line and charged forward. The squads were placed on either flank and moved at a good pace to get into position. The Kodiak fired its 155mm Gauss Cannon at the Lynx moving up the right flank behind cover and missed. In the following phases, it would try to hit this Lynx, but would regularly miss. Dang range modifiers. The other Lynx moved up the left flank and dropped its troops behind cover before moving up to engage the Kodiak. Its first and only shot barely scratched the paint on the Kodiak. The Kodiak returns fire and blew up the Lynx in a massive fireball. The other Lynx had deposited its troops prior and was waiting for its turn to go. After seeing the Kodiak gut its brother, the Lynx's driver floored the gas pedal and slammed into the side of the Kodiak. The Kodiak was rocked and took massive damage. At this point in the game, I stopped with the infantry squads on each side at full strength and unengaged. I have to say that in comparison with all the other wargaming rules I've played, Hero System's Mass Combat rules play much faster and smoother. The full game would have been over in less than 20 more minutes. Overall, Hero System does a lot better job for wargaming than rules that were specifically written for it.
  19. Re: Hero In Two Pages - Complete Awesome job Narf and bunneh.
  20. Re: Inceptum Terminus by D-3 Games (Post Apocalypse) It's both I admit it.
  21. Re: Inceptum Terminus by D-3 Games (Post Apocalypse) Thanks TQM for posting up a thread about my book. I do appreciate your efforts to keep everyone informed of the latest and greatest news relating to Hero System. My co-author and I will be appearing on Pen and Paper Games web chat on Tuesday October 27th at 9 PM EST. Jason, David, and Eric will also be a part of the chat, so if you'd like to know more information about the worlds currently under development and ask us questions please read the announcement over there. Inceptum Terminus: Chronicles of the New Confederation is nearing the end of being written. The first draft should be done within two weeks then sent off to the editor for proofreading. I'll be putting together a new playtest copy of the book, based off of the finished first draft, for the playtesters and sending it out. I started running a chat based playtest game and the first session was a resounding success. The entire party of 6 players are hooked into an elaborate plot, but the introduction was literally a blast.
  22. Re: Announcing Kazei 5, Second Edition Congrats Mike.
  23. Re: Shrinking with Persistant, Always On, 0 END It'll have to be Shrinking (1m tall, 12.5kg mass, -2 PER Rolls to perceive character, +2 DCV, takes +6m KB), Persistent (+1/4), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (10 Active Points); Always On (-1/2) Real Cost: 7. Anything beyond that I don't know since I don't have the books yet.
  24. Re: Firing rates of semi-auto&bolt action That would be good for characters and to simulate them being well trained with the weapon. Thank ya for the idea.
