  1. Re: The Ultimate Minature Gadget

Here's a few things from the Utility Belt of my character, Satire. He's only been played once, at a con, so I haven't actually gotten to use most of these...

Topical Anestetic Bomb: Touch Group Flash 10d6 (30 Active Points); OAF (-1), 8 Charges (-1/2), Range Based On

Strength (-1/4), Does not work against Desolid characters (-1/4) [8]

Emergency Parachute: Gliding 10", 2 Recoverable Continuing Charges lasting 5 Minutes each (+0), Trigger

(Activating the Trigger requires a Zero Phase Action, Trigger requires a Turn or more to reset, Misfire; When

character falls more than 6"; +1/4), Persistent (+1/2) (17 Active Points); OAF (-1) [2 rc

Collapsible Impeller: Swimming +10" (12" total) (x4 Noncombat), 1 Continuing Fuel Charge lasting 1 Hour (+0)

    (15 Active Points); OAF (-1)

Holographic Decoy: Sight and Hearing Groups Images 1" radius, +/-5 to PER Rolls, 2 Continuing Charges lasting

1 Hour each (+0) (30 Active Points); IAF Fragile (-3/4), Set Effect (Holograph of Self doing something; -1/2), Range

Based On Strength (-1/4) [2 cc]

    28) Collapsible Dish Antenna: +12 versus Range Modifier for Radio Group (18 Active Points); OAF (-1) 0

  2. Re: Dyson Sphere Ship

The only thing I can't decide between for the AI is if the should all be one collective (like the borg) or if the should all posses their own individuality.

Im leaning towards have their be only 1 AI per ship that can create and control many worker 'Drones'

This will still put the number of AIs in the millions, but it will allow me to make some into reoccurring characters

let me know what you guys think

    -Night

I think there should be billions and billions, and instead of being real AI's, were once the consciousnesses of a human-like race. They discovered how to upload their beings to expand their lifespans to infinity. Then they can also have flesh and blood descendants somewhere in the Dyson cloud living life, propagating, and eventually joining their ancestors in the machines. It would explain their need to continue gathering resources in perpetuam.

It would take 6,581,413,385 earths to make a spherical shell around the Sun at 1 AU.

If the ships are the size of the earth, that's how many could fit in that one layer.

If they are 1/2 the size, then it would take 4 times that many. If there are several layers of solar collectors, ships, etc, then if you have only one consciousness per ship, then it is already in the hundred of billions. There could also be a distributed ( not central! ) computer system where the consciousnesses rest, recreate, think, congregate, when they aren't preoccupied with running a ship. It could even be that only 1% of the consciousnesses are needed for the ships, and the rest can oversee their descendants growing up, answer questions, train future engineers, etc.

  3. Re: Double The Hero Excitement!

    My random guesses....

Optimistic: Digital Hero's loss is due to the impending Hero Magazine, coming to print with the support of Paizo Publishing.

Pessimistic: Hero Games has paid the 5k for early access to D&D 4th Edition developer's kit. Hero 6th Ed will be d20 based.

Surreal: Sci-Fi Channel has licensed Champions universe for a mini-series on the exploits of the Champions and their battle against the nefarious Foxbat!

    Weird: Dr. Destroyer plushies!

  4. Re: What game would you LOVE to play in?

    A game would be great.

Even better would be an ongoing Champions game with plot hooks based on character backgrounds.

Or a Star Hero game, or an episodic Pulp Hero game, or Pulp Star Hero, or Pulp Star Hero Galactic Champions, or... well, It'd be nice to play in a Hero game for a change.

I like to GM, but getting to play regularly would be nice, too.

  5. Re: Lucha Hero

    Green == Verde

I've got a team of superpowered luchadores as NPCs. I've managed to play one of them once at a con game. One of these days, when we have a free game night ( yeah right ), I'll run a lucha libre hero game.

    On topic part:

    Mini Senor Misterio

A young midget wrestler in Mexico, Mini Senor Misterio had a bright, but rough future ahead of him. He had not yet adopted this name, or this mask as of yet. But he drew inspiration from Senor Misterio. His first chance to meet the Master of the Mexican Mystic Arts went fairly normally. They met in a gym, keeping in shape between shows. But when next they met, it was on the streets of Ensenada where Senor Misterio had been ambushed by his arch-rival Capitan Muerte and a dozen zombie wrestlers. The midget's appearance gave Senor Misterio the chance to stage a brief comeback, but in that time the newcomer was getting slaughtered. To help his saviour, Senor Misterio bestowed upon his amigo a portion of his mystic might. This was enough to turn the tide of battle and send Capitan Muerte to the mat. Since then Senor Misterio has tutored his Mini in the mystic arts, and Mini Senor Misterio has carried on the legend in his own diminutive fashion.

  6. Re: Combat Options

There's a couple things I let players do in combat that shift the combat a bit to fit better how I understand hand to hand fighting to work:

    1 POWER vs PRECISION

An attacking character can sacrifice damage to add to their chance to hit. For each damage class their weapon is reduced by, they can add 1 OCV to the attack. This is useful against very agile, difficult to harm creatures who tend to be less durable. It represents a carefully placed, weaker attack. The third option is to choose power.

Or, an attacking character can sacrifice 2 OCV to add 1 damage class to their attack. This is useful against difficult to harm monsters who typically are easier to hit. This represents an all out attack that is not as precise or skillful.

    2 SPEED VS SKILL

An attacking character can also sacrifice either OCV or damage to attack sooner. For each damage class or OCV their attack is reduced by, they can attack in the phase one dexterity higher on the list. Thus, if you abandon 1 OCV and 1 Damage Class in your attack, you can attack as if you are 2 dexterity higher than normal. You must decide this before the dexterity you are trying to move up to comes up.

Any of these options can only be taken before the attack roll is made.

    Any thoughts?

    1) You can already do this. Buy Combat Skill Levels. Use them for OCV, or use 2 for 1 Damage Class.

    2) Hurry optional maneuver, or Hip Shot optional maneuver. Trade OCV for going higher in the initiative count. either 1 OCV for 1 Dex, or 2 OCV for 1d6 Dex

  7. Re: Opens book at random...

    16) You come across someone who _does_ have the right defense, and complain that the GM is out to get you.

    17) On the rare times you don't play a character with AVLD Does Body, you play a character with lots of resistant power defense and flash defense ( smell/taste ), just in case...

  8. Re: What do you look for in Con Pregens as a player?

    @ Arkham

So would those character outlines I wrote give you a hook if fleshed out enough?

Most of them. But you don't need to make every character appeal to every player... Just one per player. The characters don't seem overtly Heroic. I don't know if this is intentional. But if it is not part of the theme, you might want to add at least one with obvious Heroic Potential to appeal to the players that prefer that type.

Officer John Patterson - Based on the description of Brawler/Police Officer, I would base him off of the wrestler, Big Boss Man. Aggressive, and a follower who wants to be a leader.

Joe Sideways - I got nuttin. But lots of people can get into the weird characters easily.

DJ Dischord - Sounds like a Chris Tucker or Lil' John, as much as that may annoy the GM or other players. But it'd be fun.

Stanley Case - I'd focus on the 'Union man' part of his description, and end up playing him at least sounding like a leg breaker called Stanley "Hard" Case.

Milton Freely - Not much grabbing me as an obvious personality hook.

  9. Re: What do you look for in Con Pregens as a player?

I look for characters with a strong roleplaying hook. It is hard enough for me to game with strangers and make myself heard without being saddled with a wishy-washy personality, or something undefined that I'll have to feel out in a short amount of time surrounded by people I barely know, some of which have a decade or two more experience in the system than I.

So I'll look for characters I can say, "Ok, this guy would probably talk like Clint Eastwood", "Storm? Sure, I know how she talks", or "A deity of hairdressers? This just screams to be played a certain way..." Any character that has something obvious that I can use as a foundation for interactions.
