  1. Am I correct in assuming that the amount of strength that you get from your Growth Momentum stops upon reaching the target height?

     

    Example:

     

    Redwood has a 40 pt Multipower and both Shrinking and Growth in it. He gets under a normal human sized target while using 40 pts of Shrinking and then switches his multipower to 40 points of Growth. The character only gets the +8d6 from growing to normal height, when he contacts the target's jaw, and not the additional +4d6 and strength bonus from the Growth as well.

     

    Also

     

    A character with 40 points of Growth is 3.5 hexes tall and 2 hexes wide. Can he perform a 'belly flop' to do an area effect attack and, if so, what would the damage be? Move through damage?

     

    On that topic, does this make any of his other attacks, such as move through, into Area Effect instead of against the target's normal DCV?

  2. EDIT: Since no one answered (I know I only gave it a couple of hours) I put it into the Rules questions for Steve. ;)

     

    As it is with me, I often have extra time on my paws at work and therefore fire up old Hero Designer and make some villians for my end of the week game. I began to create a shrinking/growing character and had a couple of questions. I figured I'd post them here just in case the answer is already in the book and I don't want to waste Steve's time answerin' questions that already have answers to them. I didn't find them in the FAQ though so...

     

    First, I noticed that in HeroDesigner, the levels of Shrinking go by incriments of 10 while growth is in incriments of 5 - and I assume this is the same in the book. As shrinking levels have even values (-2 to Per roll, +2 to DCV, etc), do you know why this was done and not having shrinking in levels of 5 like Growth?

     

    Second, A character with 4 levels of Growth is 3.5 hexes tall and 2 hexes wide. If there is a group of agents in front of him and he decides to do a 'belly flop', it is obviously an area of effect attack but what would you apply for damage? Realize he weighs, 22 metric tonnes. ;)

  3. Your idea makes sense Demonsong if you are looking to create a realistic feel to the game. I only begin to get into such ideas about leaping if they are in a very confined space (like a tunnel) or if they are trying to leap down a hallway where there are already alot of people clogging the place up.

     

    If you want some 'realism' behind it, imagine that someone with superleap can leap 'faster' than most people, so the more superleap you have, the farther you can travel before feeling the effects of gravity - sort of like the difference between lobbing and chucking a baseball.

    I know it does. I was reading your post and the eyes moved and I caught it out of the corner of my eye. Since I wasn't certain and I had seen your icon before, I was like "Hey, did that just move?" so I leaned in to look at the photo and then BLAMO! the demon. It startled me and then I laughed my ass off because I hadn't been caught like that in a long time. :)

  5. When someone picks IR or other types of vision, they are 'in addition' to their existing vision. So they can see the blue pill just fine. If they are in complete darkness, then I would say that they can see the pill but don't know what color it is.

     

    Although not 100% correct, I usually have IR vision be able to see differences in heat patterns but the shapes are slightly blurred and not easily recognizable. UV you can see the shapes easily but not any heat differences.

     

    Note, however, that according to the rules, adding another type of sense to an pre-existing sense that is discriminatory means that those additions are also discriminatory - so with IR vision, you can see the blue pill - even in darkness.

     

    At least that is what my 'rules lawyer' player says. ;)

  7. I have currently put all my social activities on hold because I am playing StarCraft and BroodWars - dang Blizzard! :)

     

    As for using it as a setting, I am not sure how well it would translate. I am sure you can though. For those who don't know it, just take the movie Starship Troopers and add in a third, high-tech Force Field using race of aliens. So, I'd say if no one has done StarCraft, I am sure there are one or two Starship Troopers conversions SOMEONE has done.

    I got to see the 'damaged goods' section at DunDraCon. The damage is all cosmetic - and in fact a brand new, pristine book would become just as damaged after one con weekend. I thihnk my friends TUV had a slight bend/dent on the top left corner of the book - as if you dropped it onto the floor.

  9. I will try to illustrate the way I look at things via the (imaginary) Strange Tribes of Tollala

     

    AK: Tollala - This area is a rainforest, consisting of small tribal bands of humans and the usual 'jungle' variety of flora and Fauna.

    KS: Tollala - Located in the southern region of Africa, the small province is rather undeveloped and uncivilized.

    PS: Tollala - Although primitive, the area is abundant with natural remedies and a small vein of diamonds that need to be mined in a certain way.

    CuK: Tollala - The Tribes of Tollala believe any gestures with the right hand is offensive.

    Realize that lesser volume really doesn't equate to cheaper costs. Layout, design and setup of the printing system is usually the heavy cost. Number of copies is usually secondary. So even printing 100 or 500 hard bound books would be incredibly expensive. And, as you have all the FH goodness in the softbacks, it doesn't make economic sense.

  11. When I saw Lord of the Rings and those Elven blades, I giggled as I had been wanting to create something like that for a while. My original idea was to be able to draw a regular katana from its sheath, then be able to attach the sword hilt to the sheath and make a mini-naginata.

     

    I took a similar design and made a LARP weapon for my Dark Elf character. It is basically a sword blade on a 3 foot stick. ;)

  12. Here's a second question, or more of a validation...

     

    Player wanted to make an AOE Entangle that was surrounding an area or person in a HUGE ball of Stone. He had thought that a character would have to fight his way out of each hex worth of entangle before engaging but I said that as long as he breaks free of the first entangle, he is free.

     

    To get this effect, would it need to be AOE Radius Entangle Sticky, Continuous?

     

    Player is in the center of the ball. he breaks free of the Entangle there. Now, if he moves one hex, he is entangled again. If he remains still, he is not entangled but he cannot attack anyone as he is still surrounded by entangle.

     

    Don't know how to make it...

    Here's the kicker: Let's say I want the beam to be generated by a person. He creates the beam, throws it into the planet, and can keep fighting until it exploads. It doesn't even have to be a person, let's say it's a satelite with a doomsday cannon. How would I simulate firing the beam, and letting it dig to the planet's core before going BOOM? Keep in mind, the beam is a sphere of energy and is self powered, leaving the user able to keep fighting.

     

    DBZ Example: Freeza launches his death cannon into the Planet's surface. It takes several minutes to expload, but Freeza is still able to fight Goku during the entire time.

     

    If Goku defeats Freeza, does it stop the explosion? Is there anyway to stop the explosion once fired and it hits the earth?

     

    From what it sounds like, I would probably do a massive

    Body Suppression or Transformation attack that is uncontrolled/cumalative. As soon as it hits the Earth, the attack begins. The SFX of the attack is that as the Suppression/Transformation is beginning, the attack is heading to the center of the earth. Once the attack does enough to destroy the Earth, the SFX is that the attack has reached the center and detonated.

  14. The one I laugh over the most is as follows:

     

    I am 'guest GMing' in a well established game. The players enter the 'bad corporation' that deals with metas and aliens. During a chat with the VP, an Alien that looks like one of the team members comes barrelling into the room and is chased by 5 agents carrying the 'Knock Alien Into Next Tuesday' Rifles . One of the team members puts up a force wall around the Alien to protect him while the negotiations begin. Apparently the player who put up the force wall decided to begin reading a comic book instead of participating in the discussion.

     

    During the heated debate the team leader says, "Is there anyway we can resolve this issue?"

     

    The evil VP says, "I can resolve it right now if you drop the Force Wall."

     

    The player heard '...drop the Force Wall,' so he looks up from his comic and goes "okey," and makes a gesture of turning off the Force Wall. The other players scream "NO!" as I begin to roll the damage dice to the hapless alien.

  15. Probably repeating people here but...

     

    I usually have one major story arc per gaming "episode". I will tailor that plot though to include other player's backgrounds into it. Such as if someone who is being hunted by VIPER, I will make VIPER the main 'evil group' that is causing the trouble. Someone's DNPC will become the focus of that trouble - be it a lab assistant who just happened to be a bit of a buff about quantum physics as it relates to black holes to having her being the Sergeant on the police force who investigates the PC's actions.

     

    I will always leave a few 'loose ends' around and depending upon which ones the PC's seem most interested in, I will start working that one into the new major plotline for the next session.

    As for Spidey's web shooters - I have been a long time Spidey fan and once had (or maybe still have) a book on all of his gadgets. This was written circa 1980 by Marvel so you will have to excuse any 'discrepencies' nowadays.

     

    Technically, the web shooters would be OIF as they are just part of his 'costume'. The web shooters do jam on occasion but he usually 'runs out' of web fluid without knowing it - sort of the way someone doesn't always count his shots with a gun. According to the book, each web shooter has 12 charges on it, with additional charges on his belt. Each charge can be expanded one of three ways, either as a large, wet, goopy mass (with which he often adheres his bundle of clothing to the wall with), as a thick swing line or as a lighter, feathered web that covers an area. Each charge uses up the entire amount of webbing, it is just sort of the amount of 'air' that is added to it.

    Well, without the doubling or AE, you could punch a man sized hole THROUGH the earth. I'm not a geologist, but wouldn't that have the effect of destroying the planet - if you have a hole clean through it?

  18. Allow me to share a similiar thought...

     

    I have never purchased a Hero product other than the main core rulebook - the BBB 4th Ed and FReD 5th Ed. The reason being that all you ever really needed was in those two books. It just requires a little more creativity on the GM to make everything - something I was always willing to do.

     

    After reading many of the comments about FH, in this and other threads about the FH book, I am eagerly awaiting its release to purchase a copy. To top it all off with, I do not run, nor ever plan on running a FH campaign but I would do just about anything to play in one - simply from the discussions here.

  19. I actually find the AOO in D&D unrealistic. In D&D (and I could be wrong as I have not played much of 3E), everyone acts at the same time - you just have reflexes that determine who acts first in the phase (as per hero terms). So three people move by you while you are engaged in combat with someone else. You suddenly can swing your weapon four times faster to get off a hit on each of them?

     

    And, as mentioned before, to be able to take a swing at someone as they pass while you are engaged in combat with someone else will open you up to the other's attack. I could see an AOO with a heavy penalty as if you just throw something out there while still concentrating on your main target.

     

    However, as it is the rules of the game, I play by them.
