  1. Re: Hero Talk Magazine

My apologies for the delay on the article. Aylwin and I have to give it another pass, it should be posted in the next couple days. In the mean time I'm posting the next two covers and am asking which font you think would work better for the Hero Talk header. Over the last 15 months I've used a handful and think it's time to narrow down one header font.

    Thanks,

  2. Re: Hero name

Like you said, there are a ton of villainous names and vivid descriptions of violent characteristics. Perhaps the character would pick something less agressive, maybe a nonviolent action word like.....

Snap(In reference to the sound his dinosaur jaw makes when it closes)

Bump(Because his oddly shaped body and tail knock over lots of things in confined quarters.

or Trot(due to his awkward raptor running stride)

  3. Re: Man i am having such writers block right now.

    Just a couple ideas:

Nazi's from outerspace! Hitler was the host body for a symbiotic organism and the mother ship finally made it to earth.

Deep deep cover:(face off) an oldie, but a goodie

The heroes need to get deep inside a villain organization to get info on the location of 6 nuclear war head set to go off if the organization crazy demands aren't met in 48 hours. The only way the characters can infiltrate is to do a consciousness transfer with their recently captured nemesis that's a member of the offending organization.

  4. Re: A New Beginning

The times that I've had to start a new campaign after a long standing one finished my groups have done several things.

We've taken a key NPC(In our case the venerable Doctor Powers) from the long standing campaign in this particular case it was a Mage had him involved in a magical battle of reality altering intensity where all he could do is escape through a rift created by his opponents onslaught of dimensional energies. As the character dropped through the hole in time and space he realizes that the hole is not just in this dimension but hundreds. The vibrant colors expelled by the bleed dimensions blind the character as he plummets to an uncertain end and the pull of cosmic energies takes it's toll on him and he passes out. When the character woke up he was in New Yorks Central Park, but he couldn't see the old campaigns Hero Tower in the background and when he finally catches his reflection he's 30 years younger. I then handed the sheet over to a pc that had agreed to play the ex NPC now 30 years younger and at greatly reduced stats. The player is on an alternate earth, but with full knowledge of where he's from and no idea how to get back and no desire to face the person that's probably looking to finish the job they started. It gives the character a chance to reconnect with the characters from the other campaign and to see where there lives have changed and a totally fresh start on a new world with different problems.

Another thing we've done is stay in the same world, but approach it from a different direction. If we were playing a standard heroes team then we play students at a mutant academy or the teachers and explore the stumbling blocks to their goals. Teachers have to protect students, handle the people that donate money essential to maintain operations, develop the students powers, recruit new classes, hero on the side. All while looking out for the IHA, Gencide and rival schools.

One more thing I've done is switch genres as a reset buffer between campaigns. A couple months of Star Hero or Fantasy Hero is sometimes need to wipe the board clean and start again.

  5. Re: Hero Talk Magazine

FYI- for anyone interested, Howard S. Brody was the innocent young mutant in an adventure at the back of the 1993 Supplement "The Mutant Files". In 93' when the book first came out we ran the adventure/the heroes failed and Howard died at the hands of The New Improved Genocide I'm not used to the pc's failing so that adventure left a bad taste in my mouth as a gm and this issue is a way of dealing with that demon in my gaming background.

  6. Re: Clean up aisle seven: who is in charge?

In our campaign PRIMUS sends a field operative to any altercation involving super types. When the agent arrives on the scene there PRIMUS powers supercede all other forms of law enforcement. Before PRIMUS shows up the crime scene is taken over by the Police and they take the crime scene from the superheroes.

  7. Issues 166 and 167

Issues 166 and 167, my only problem now is figuring out which article to write. You might notice that the themes have gotten a lot more serious for the covers than I started out with. In game Sheri is coming to terms with the meta situation through her beau(Aylwin13) and it comes across in her mag. If anyone has any suggestions for which article I should do let me know here or drop me a pm.

  9. Who's the Master?

Hello everyone, We've completed the first part of "WHO'S THE MASTER". I apologize for the delay. Aylwin13 and I have been working on it trying to edit this monster down. I was hoping to get it down to 5 pages, alas it will most likely ring it in at 16 pages when all is said and done. Those of you that read it let me know what you think I'm always looking to improve the quality of my roleplaying supplements.

  10. Re: [Warming Rant] GM feeling uninspired

I went through a similar ordeal when I was still living in Chicago. I resolved it by picking key pc's in my campaign and running a couple Limited Edition solo comic episodes for their characters and it helped to draw the pc into the subtle pull of my worlds dark side. The point is: If you want people to respect and understand the beauty that is your creation you have to but it in a venue they can digest. QM I have no doubt in my mind that your world is a marvel and triumph, but you have to break it down for the leaders and there interest and knowledge will become infectious.

Doctor Diagnosis: I don't believe you suffer at all from anything more than a way to reach people on a different level, because if you could the excessive chatter would take care of itself.

  11. Re: Villain Team Name

I personally can't imagine mythical creatures sitting around giving themselves a name. I'd see it more or less as a stated purpose transferring realms and becoming a name. Like if these beings had some type of prize as a goal maybe collecting all the shards of a golden platter(or something) Look up the name in early celtic and have the heroes figure it out through investigation like "Treasure Hunters" Early Irish étail, treasure,

gìomanach a hunter; from the English game.

  12. Re: Teen Champions Villians

Is it just me or does this really really sound like a Harry Potter story? No offense meant' date=' just seems to have all the elements...[/quote']

None taken and I fought that myself, suffice it to say when all the elements are together it doesn't come off as an x-men rip off with a venerable Headmaster/mistress w/ a dream of what the school will be. I try to use a little more of the hand that they are being dealt in the form of seeding relationships that may follow the characters when they're out of school and 26. Think about it, life taught us so many lessons between the ages of 14 to 18. What kind of power insecurities, trust and coping with failure issues the characters must go through.

  13. Re: Teen Champions Villians

In our teen champions game I tried to interweave villains into the Ravenswood campaign at an almost subliminal level. During the summer while I was still generating teachers and students I with some help from a few posters on the board made up a an acceptance letter that I sent to the players from Headmistress Pelvanon that was shortly followed by a class schedule and map of the school. Our first roleplaying experience at Ravenswood was move in day and everyone was a trying to check in when student and staff alike were wisked into the main auditorium where a thin dark haired almost European looking man with a rakish derby and a cape informed them in fluent yet broken English that Headmistress Pelvanon had died in her sleep the night before and that he would be taking over her duties as Headmaster of the school. This dark man(Gracious Louca) adn his mysterious ways represent a ton of roleplaying opportunities. In my campaign in the same breath he told everyone Kristina was dead he also told them that Ravenswood was in financial trouble from years of free spending and that in order to correct the massive debt Miss Pelvanon had amassed he would have to reduce the faculty 40% and the school would have to rescend 75% of the scholarships offered to students in need of financial assistance(Including metas). As if this weren't enough he accepts 9 Academic tools from the I.H.A. the U.R.S.A. series of knowledge and meta detection robot, so now there is the ever watching presence of the I.H.A. on campus and in the classrooms logging any meta activity. Gracious shuns all administrative duties, leaving his actual duties to his staff(which include two PC meta-human teachers that don't trust Gracious at all) while he is found bleeding half dead on his desk or speaking in a Salue Boken to a Greater Demon under the bleachers at a pep assembly. I also started out with something dead in the ground for a character that sees dead things, he's rooming with a PC. There is Lord Voltaire(Mutant energy projecter/Vampire Lord) living in the fallout shelter under the school sustaining himself on the students life force(not killing them, just sending them to the infirmary) Obviously the Rival School in which case I borrowed the Lothlorien Institute from an incredible Champions fansite. How do you get a rivalry going with the Lothlorian, it satarts with the students that lost their scholarship and had to go to Lothlorien as a consolation. There's also great teen champions gaming during the summer if the kids aren't from the same area and meet up with each other to go to a concert or special summer session.

These are just a couple of the things I'm doing with my teen champions campaign. Hope it helps! I also attached a pic of the dead thing that Geist saw in the ground that everyone else thought was a small tree.

  14. Re: What would your Master Villain do?

Ultimatum: Where brawn has failed in the past let beauty prevail. Mindbar is my main henchwoman who up until now has remained mostly behind the scenes. I save my aces for the times when they'll be most effective. I would place her early at some point where the most sympathetic hero would repeatedly run into her(probably Susano). Give her a problem that is easily identified(She appears to be developing powers or senses something bad in Susano's future)I would even send a group of villains after her or Susano to increase the level of trust and confidentiality in the relationship w/Susano, maybe the Masters of Speed. I would use these dimwits to add danger and misinform them that they are being hired by the IHA so that the Heroes will think she has some unseen value to the IHA and they'll have to keep Mindbar close to keep her safe(perhaps that lovely space station). This is where I get tricky. Once Mindbar notifies me that she is safely setup on their base I notify the local News networks in Hong Kong, Rome, and Tokyo that I have bombs placed beneath their respective capital buildings if my list of Super Villains are not released into the custody of my foot soldiers(landing in front of said capitals riding helicopters in teams of 5 Androids w/automatic rifles). Of course the heroes will spring into action and most likely leave trustworthy Mindbar at the Space Base where she uses her Robotic Telepathy and Robomanipulations to override the security and steal the base.

  15. Re: UnCaped: February Issue

    Publius,

I don't know what to say.......I Love it!!! UnCaped is sexy and smart. If I didn't like doing Hero Talk I might stop it all together and ask to write articles for your mag. Do you have anymore stuff I would love to see your take on the super hero epidemic as life. Truly Brilliant!!! I'll rep you again after I spread a little more around.
