  1. Re: Help with alternate U.S. history? Idaho is a strongly conservative state. Certainly too conservative to be lumped in with California. I forgot to list Nevada, part ofth Pacific Union. Utah, I'd entertain notions of them being in another union. I also considered Montana trying to split to individual independance, but thee's not enough population to seriously hold it by force.
  2. Re: Help with alternate U.S. history? I think 26 years ought to be enough to create the change, and allow for stabalization (more or less). The farther back I go, the more I have to write, and.. .well... I'm lazy. Lord L... some nice thoughts in that last post.
  3. Re: Help with alternate U.S. history? The entire point of this exercize was to make Missouri in an alternate world something like a Fascist state, with persecution of 'Undesirables'. The 'Christian Coalition' is indeed a Theocracy, and a very severe one. The design of my fracture has already built some conclusions, one of which is a somewhat reasonable division of the country by population. I think the Pacific and New England unions would have a lot more economic power, maybe followed by Texas. This doesn't leave a lot of power for Midwest and the south, but they have land mass and agriculture on their side. This setup is not to knock Christianity, but to take all views to the extreme. The pacific union would be radical liberals, for instance. Battlestaff... I don't think you're following my request. I have a desired outcome, and want to work backward toward events that caused the outcome. The known in this equation is how I want the world to be, and about how long ago the deviation started. The desired outcome is a reasonably logical progression of Early 80's U.S. history to how things got so wrong. I hope that clarifies. Certainly, it could have been a matter of one state or a block of several having strong feelings over a federal ruling. But that's what I started this thread for... what event? What could have fractured the union? I think it'd be interesting if the two superpowers both died at about the same time. I suppose I should say that the first BIG difference (noticable by someone viewing historical events after the fact) would be Reagan's assassination. Other smaller clues might surface with a very close examination. I appreciate the input so far.
  4. Anyone interested in helping me work out an alternate U.S. history? I'm gearing up for a game, and would like a reasonable explanation for events in an alternate reality. In this alternate world, The United States is fractured into five separate nations, although they are now on reasonably good terms. The division is: Pacific Union (Washington, Origon, California, and Utah), Union of Texas (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma), The Christian Coalition (Missouri, Kentucky, Tennesee, North Carolina, and all states south of that line), Union of New England (Virginia, Maryland, Pensylvania, and all states northeast, and the Midwest Union, containing all other states. As in the Civil War, Missouri was divided in loyalties, wars were fought, and the region eventually deligated. West Virginia could be either with N.E., midwest, or Christian Coalition, but there's nothing there of great strategic importance. This history starts to deviate in the 80's when the attempt to assassinate President Reagan succeeds, and brings us up to modern day. These nations should all be rather extreme in their views and laws. This is sort of a nightmare dystopian alternate world. Thoughts appreciated.
  5. Re: 39 point me My method of determining if someone had a skill was 'can you make money at it'? This usually means college level skill in it, or having done it for a living for a few years. It's funny, because in our group, one player ended up costing 97 points (which I had my doubts about) and another was 14 points. Knowing for certain that you can only pick 50 pounds over your head gets you a LOT of points back. LOL Still, doing these games I always find fun, watching players face unspeakable horros, and honestly being scared. heh heh.
  6. Re: Calling All Heroes! Susano: Yep, got them. Thanks. Mr. Bunraku, if you own the character, sure, that's fine. If there's any kind of licencing issues, then I can't take it. It doesn't bother me if the character has appeared in another publication, though.
  7. Re: Calling All Heroes! Hate to bump my own thread, but I'm still looking for heroes and villians for this project.
  8. Every year at Halloween, I run a one-shot horror game where the players play themselves in some horrid event. Last year, it was run in the d20 system, and this year, it'll be in the Hero system. I just wrote myself up, and found to my dissappointment that I am built on 39 points. It should be a fun game. Has anyone else ever done this?
  9. Re: Aikido? The character I'm intending to use this with is a student, and uses the jo in her form, if that helps. I appreciate al lthe feedback on this.
  10. Re: Calling All Heroes! And Thanks for your interest. I'm still looking for submissions, for those of you who are interested.
  11. Re: Calling All Heroes! Contributors retain ownership of their characters. I'm only asking for permission to use them in this book, and possibly on a web site connected with the book. All contributors will be creditted i nthe table of contents for their submissions. You can include contact e-mail or URL with your name if you wish. Hope that clarifies things.
  12. Anyone care to give me an idea of what martial maneuvers would be found in practicioners of Aikido?
  13. Re: Calling All Heroes! Thanks GB. Got your files. It'll take me a bit to sort through them of course. And, I could still use a lot more folks!
  14. Re: Calling All Heroes! I'm still looking for heroes (and villains). Feel free to submit them, folks. I have a great line-up of artists ready to do pictures of your characters for this.
  15. Re: Calling All Heroes! Susano: They do not need to be tied to official Champions history/settings. I'll look at characters in the 250-300 point range, but I'd prefer standard starting superhero point levels. Aylwin13: I've considered already that 500 words is pretty short, which is why I'm allowing folks to stick a URL with their character for a more complete history and writeup. Hope this clarifies things.
  16. Re: Calling All Heroes! GB... no problem. I thought in putting this project together that I'd get flooded with Character submissions and have to scramble to get artists involved, when in fact, it's been the exact opposite. After one request on Digital Webbing, I have 11 artists interested in getting involved, and have yet to hear from anyone wanting to submit characters. If you want to submit a character, but the character isn't yet complete, please let me know, so I at least have an idea of level of interest. Thanks, all.
  17. Re: Calling All Heroes! Great Beyond: Yes, it's an export option for Hero Designer. Patriot: While I'd like characters at 350 points, I will consider more powerful ones, particularly solo villains. However, I'd really like to focus for now on 350 point stuff. If the heroes in question are related to the product in question, then I supose so, but I'm not doing this as an ad for another product. Name Tamer: Thanks for the link.
  18. Re: Calling All Heroes! Patriot: They have to be YOUR character, if that clarifies. Ghost Archer: PDF is a file format. Print on Demand is a term used for products that are available in hard copy, upon request. In other words, I wouldn't send this off to a printer for a run of (for instance) 2000 units. I would simply compile the files, and send it to a print-on-demand service, who would print a copy for anyone who requested it. Hope that clears that up.
  19. A week or so ago, I posted an idea I had for a project called 'The Unofficial Handbook to the Champions Universe'. It looks like this project is going to move from theory to reality. So now, I would like to make a request for character submissions. I'm looking for 18 characters. I'm hoping for about an equal mix of heroes and villains. These characters will then be drawn by up-and-coming comic artists, colored, and put into a print-on-demand comic book, similar to 'The Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe'. Since this is a small project coming out of my own pocket, there isn't any pay for your hard work, but you will get a file from me with the final colored character pic. I am looking for 5th Edition Revised characters built on 350 points. PLEASE make my life easier and make your character in Hero Submissions Character Sheet format (RTF file). Background writeup should be about 500 words. Sorry but that's all the more space I can afford. You may include a URL for additional info. You may include a written description of your character, or any other form of character sketch you have, like HeroMachine. These will be used for reference by the final artists. If you're dead set on your art being used for the final, this can most likely be arranged. All creators will be creditted for their characters in the final product. You may include an e-mail for contact purposes to be included in the table of contents. If you are interested in submitting, please send an e-mail to me at lynnlefey@hotmail.com I think that about covers everything.
  20. Re: Comic Book Physics Yes, in my world, you can indeed pick up a bus by its front bumper.
  21. Re: Your personal comic book origins I remember reading Star Wars and Spider-Man in the early 80's, but the single issue that sort of cemented my comic reading was X-Men 174. No particular reason. It just so happened to be the one my brother bought for me. After a few years, I lost interest in comics, having rather outgrown them, until the B&W surge of the late 80's, when TMNT and Tick got me back into comics. I also had someone force me to read Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns, after which I realized what the medium could be. I've read various titles ever since, bt I certainly don't consider myself a collector.
  22. Re: Unofficial Handbook to the Champions Universe Organizations would be things like UNTIL or VIPER. They would be those secret research facilities, mysterious power-broker organizations, criminal organizations, private clubs of ultra-elite, and the like, not necessarily with superpowered members. There would likely be a crossover between solo or team groups and organizations. An organization might have two or three associated powered folk, or maybe lots of thugs with high tech equipment. While I don't want to venture into the realm of writing adventures, It'd be great to give adventure hooks, and organizations can be great for generating hooks.
  23. Re: Unofficial Handbook to the Champions Universe The group dynamic thing was one reason why I thought it might be a good idea to have a hero group and villian group in each book, along with individuals. It also allows back-story ties amongst various team members. I also understand the desire for solo characters. And again, thought (probably) that folks would be more in need of villians than heroes. So, again, I'm thinking 6 pages for one hero group, 4 pages of solo heros, 6 pages for villian group, 6 pages solo villians, and 6 pages dedicated to organizations. This might change from one issue ot the next, if this becomes a series, but I think it would give a good mix of stuff for use in champs games. This is still open to input though.
  24. Re: Unofficial Handbook to the Champions Universe Thanks for the feedback, Basil. Anyone else have any thoughts on whether you'd like ot see a large number of individual characters versus teams? Do people want to see organizations? How about paper figs? Are these something worth adding?
  25. Re: Unofficial Handbook to the Champions Universe I'll keep everyone informed on the status of this project. I'm sure, when I solicit for characters, I'll have no lack of people wanting to contribute.
