Re: Need help building up skill list/set for horseback riding archer
I had a plains deweller who:
Was born on a horse and will die on it- Clinging only on a horse
He speaks horse - telepathy only with horses (it was limited to commands and understanding them, example they whinney when other horse are detected so he would understand how many or if humans where with them.
He rides like the wind - + running, leaping and endurance to the horse he is on (his confidence and guidance gives the horse more)

Re: Cool Guns for your Games
Last year when I shot a SMG for the first time the owner of the range showed me a glock that was auto. He had shot it many times and he could not control it. That 100 rd mag adds weight which looks like it adds controlablity (is that a word?LoL).

Re: Inexperienced GM introducing group to Hero and having writer’s block…
I like asking the player who was in the background "who do you want to be?"
I have gotten as answers
Robbing Hood: a Fantasy Europe game proceeded 2 years with encounters with Richard the Lionheart and all his Family, a demon, vampire, Knights templar, Irish bards and Faries.
A god: he got to be son of Hercules in a age of heros campian of Mythic greece (that book came out during the campain) for 2 years
A dective: the other players heard this and started to design charaters to play a pulp game resulted for 2 years
Matthew Smith of Mars: Flying Pirate ships, aliens with many arms and plots followed.
A Jedi: Three games of 6 weeks over three summers that where outstanding, THE GATHERING STORM, THE JEDI WAY, THE EMPIRE RISES.
A Musketeer: last summer movie game of 6 weeks:The Founding of the Musketeers
and the answer Ku Fu movie (okay but what kind. . . ) Kung Fu movie with magic the group stated as they reached for the rules, and created Kung Fu heros, reseach of movies and china quickly followed.
I have told them design a FBI Agent and they must have this package. game followed the FBI vs red cape, hit chick and the mob.
I have told them give me some mercenaries from 1964 (ex WWII) for a game The Heart is Darkest in Africa. this game was stated to be a Dark Champions Grene and you all are Mercenary. It was also different in that everyone bought followers because they had to sleep and need some one to wacht over them. The British sargent with his two Thompson SMG Gunners , the Austrlain sniper with spotter and radio man, the German tanker with panzer and crew ("Mien Panzer do not scrath it- he bought a m3 scout car the most powerful armour in the congo.") the Ducth corpal with Mortor Section and the American deserter with his high tech M-60 (he had light sleep). surprisingly no one killed a player ( 50 million in diamonds on the line lots of trying).
So ask them
hopefully one will say I want to be a cowboy and the orthers will chime in hey I can be an Indian, a gambler ect.

Re: Dueling
From the Ultimate Martial Artist which is a great book and really helps flesh out combat. On page 24-page 26 Fencing is discussed.
of course in my gathering of information (wiki great) for my Musketeer game I used this information and built my own schools which the players never really look at and all bought MA Maneuvers from the French school.
I also used realistic reload times for my wheel locks and matchlocks so range weapons did not over power the game.
The start of my campaign was at the Inn of the Dancing pig (look over door)
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u42/LordGhee/Musketeer/DSC00784.jpg
Here Sargent Porthos (under the block(table that he lifts) he is gray as he was not yet painted) threw a table over the wall at the Huguenots who have come to murder the Duc Du Orleans who leaps in his coach as it arrives in the morning to pick him up. Sargent Porthos of the kings Musketeers (just established months ago) tables some of the villains (he threw a giant oak table over the wall!) and takes a smashed Huguenot's horse and Arquebus and pursues the pursuing Huguenots Nobles: Duc Henry and other Huguenots nobles.
Porthos timely arrival at the Duc's crashed coached chased off the attackers just as they where going to fire the coach

The coach and paint job was a wonderful Christmas gift.

Re: Bows
Lucias, that bow is a style developed by the ottoman Turks for range shooting a sport they took part in.
Firegolem,
I found that bows in general overpowered my Fantasy Hero games. Then you add in rapid fire and other skills and talents they can dominate a game. I use the suggestions from page 173 side column in Fantasy Hero 5th editions to slow down the rate of fire.

Re: Dueling
For my Musketeer game I set up thease schools
The French
defensive
the British
sword and buckler, broad sword (useful for the knight on horseback)
the German
two handed
the Italian
movement, main gauche
the Spanish
buckler and against multipul oppents
I used a core with some of the special maneuvers from page 25 so each school had a real style difference.
I took a lot of information from the 5th ed Ultimate Martial Artist pg 25 to 26
