  1. I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting and talking to both Phil and Kaja when I was working security at local cons (Portland area). Good folks as the saying goes.😀 Sorry, did not mean to derail the thread further.
  2. Also I had meant for all the various villains and heroes to be included in the count but he does not yet know who is who. Was that not what you had in mind ?
  3. Thanks archer. Stay in the dark, cool cloths on forehead have always helped my wife even if only a little bit. Hope it passes soon.
  4. Fixed, also I did not realize this was supposed to be a AAD. Sorry.
  5. The Silver Sentinel part II The Silver Sentinel engaged his personal force field as he dropped out of the sky. Even though he knew his armor was hardened against any number of different energy pulses he figured it must have taken some kind of damage in the last blast because the information it was giving him now was all wrong. First off, the entire 2nd layer of the city was gone as if it had never even existed. Huge amounts of gaseous pollutants were in the air as well as solid wastes in the rivers and on the streets. Hundreds and hundreds of ancient internal combustion vehicles were everywhere, even the in the sky. The landmarks and city layout were all wrong as well. Major buildings and installations were missing while ones he had only seen in old records were still standing. While all this was fascinating, what demanded his immediate attention were the 15-20 unidentifiable targets flying around the building and bridges. He couldn't understand why the various sensors and advanced computers couldn't give him a exact number. At the moment none seemed to be attacking the people directly but he knew it would only be a matter of time before they began firing on the crowds. Bringing all the weapons of the 9 foot, hitech, shiny, silver power armor on line, Theodor tried to lock onto one of the targets zipping around in the sky. "I will really have to go over all the systems when I get a chance. Targeting computer says that one is barely 6 ft and organic." he thought to himself. Sweeping in behind his target he was irritated that the computer still could not gain a lock-on. It was like something was actively jamming the systems, giving them false information. He was reluctant to fire at these speeds for if he missed the armors weapons could easily do a great deal of damage to the city below and around him. Suddenly an alarm went off inside the helmet warning him of an inbound attack. He rolled out of the way only taking a grazing shot from a "..fireball?..." Then whatever had been affecting the sensors and control systems of the armor seemed to start wearing off. He was able to get solid locks on several of the things flying around him. Some indeed were organic and roughly human sized, some were not. Additionally they seemed to also have some kind of trouble telling friend from foe as he watched one pair fire on a third only to then split up and fire on each other. Finally he say one of them line up what looked like a possible attack on a nearby building. Maybe the intent was to blast it to smithereens or dump debri onto the crowds below, maybe it was to send shrapnel into the flight path of one of the others all Thoe knew was that this was what he had made the armor for. Redirecting the energy from his force blasters to the shield projectors he instantly created a translucent bluish energy wall between the attacker and the building. Targeting lock or no he finally had a certified target that had tried to do harm to the people and city he protected. ok - next......
  6. Sorry I wanted to put down more but the power has just gone out and my tablet is both inferior and doesn't have a charged battery.
  7. The Silver Sentinel At the beginning of the 22nd century New New York City was one of the last remaining cities in North America. This was mostly to the efforts of the Silver Sentinel, the cities greatest hero. Daily, the aliens in orbit would try to bomb one of the last remaining cities and each would in turn mount what defense it could to survive for one more day. For New New York that defense was the Silver Sentinel and him impenetrable force fields. He watch the bombs fall as he soared over his city. As always they impacted harmlessly against the huge domed shield. Suddenly there was a brilliant flash. All the sensors in Sentinel's armor went haywire and for a moment he thought it was going to do a hard reboot but then the static cleared and all systems showed normal. Except he was no longer above New New York City. It looked very similar but some how older, dirtier, less shiny. His armor began feeding him telemetry on multiple objects flying over his city. Additionally there was zero feedback from the energy canopy shield that should have been over the city. Fearing they had finally figured out how to bypass the shield, he rocketed down to engage the enemy one on one.
  8. Opal I love your take on the sentient power armor. I hope you change your mind and include it.
  9. Thanks, I will try to case that down.
  10. Also if your team is not Australian the cliches instantly set the stage in the mind's eye of the players. If your players are a little more worldly or better at disassociating themselves from their personal reality the use of cliches is less useful. I have had players that had to be spoon fed and others who could have been on "Who's Line Is It..." Cliches and stereotypes like salt, bad as they can be, do have a place and purpose.
  11. Bleeding Edge Brigade As our understanding of science grows so does our technology. As our technology grows so does our understanding of science. For some people this has become a horrific, runaway phenomenon with only the end of Humanity on this path. But some have thrown themselves into this bold unfolding world and embraced both the advances that are being made as well as the mysteries they reveal. Using these new sciences and technologies, the Bleeding Edge Brigade intends to show the world it does not need to be afraid of the future and what it might bring for technology will be there to protect everyone. Figured a five person team. All power armor and cyborg types or even AI robots.
  12. Steven Cloud had always been told to watch out for his younger siblings. Then one school field trip there was an accident and the bus went careening off the road straight toward the cliff's edge. There was a flash of light and everyone and everything came to a sudden stop. When the driver and kids recovered from the fear of their impending doom they found the bus partially floating over the edge of the cliff. Some kind of blueish-white energy field was under the front part of the bus that was hanging out over the edge. Steve was white as a ghost, blowing like a horse that had run miles, and his out stretched arms were shaking like he was the one holding up the bus. "Everyone out the back!" yelled the driver. After everyone was out the driver carefully lead Steven back and out the emergency exit. The moment Steven's feet hit the concrete he collapsed and the bus went tumbling over the edge. Over the next few weeks he learned he could make energy walls. They were practically unbreakable and could be make in many different orientations. After word spread of the bus incident and his new powers, he was contacted by Ms. Fabulous who offered him a place on the team.
  13. I can guess. It seems that some people didn't understand what it meant and began using it as a slur for people who were often late or not around much. As more people used the slur version and aimed it at indigenous people it lost its original meaning and became the corrupted version in use today. 😥 Sad really. But that is just a guess based on a cursory internet search and old sociology courses plus personal experience.
  14. Sorry about that. I was always of the opinion the it was a spiritual journey type thing Like a Vision Quest. Lexicon updated.
  15. Ok, read all five pages. What about a mind control villain that uses the droning of a didgeridoo. Walks into a bank, sits down and starts playing. People start taking the cash an dropping it at his/her feet. When police show up bystanders start acting as a human barricade. While the 2 groups deal with each other, villain gets up and walks away. Call him Walkabout cuz they go were ever they want.
  16. The Grey Midwife The life expectancy of a person during the Victorian era grew as the person grew. Infant mortality was a huge factor in average life expectancy during this time. Many historians will point toward disease and hygiene as the most likely and widespread cause for this effect. What they don't know is that in England and more specifically London there lived a woman, a midwife by trade, named Agatha. She had the rather unique ability to draw the life force from another human to augment her own. Since children have their whole lives ahead of them she targeted the children born in poor conditions so that she could draw off their life and add those years to her own. As medicine and hygiene improved and stories grew about babies dying while in the arms of a particular midwife, Agatha's ability to find suitable "meals" waned and she was force to move to less advanced societies where births in a hospital were less likely. Today the stories of infants and newborns mysteriously and suddenly dying come from all around the world leading one to believe Agatha is still out there. In fact when one looks at the date and locations of these more modern stories it easy to see that she is perhaps no longer alone in this world.
  17. OOOOhhhhh... good idea and yes it was exactly that. Gming for my 12 son so thought to slip a little father life lesson type thing.
  18. Cool - thanks you 2. I honestly did not think of the "hand waving" option. Vision in my mind was of different scenes where in the villian is almost beat but then takes the "Super-serum" and riods out with new powers to boot. Can Severe Transform give PC/NPCs powers and what not? .... hmmm I guess it does. I will have to work on that aspect of this.
  19. Many examples of various drugs and concoctions that have given a variety of different powers to different recipients for different lengths of time since the beginning of story telling. Been rolling this around in my head for a day or so trying to figure out a way to make a "temporary-modified-by-users-DNA" drug that normals could use (at high risk) to temporarily get Powers. Any ideas because I am coming up empty? P.S. I am looking to have this modeled in HD6
  20. Hot Flash Well into her 50s Emily had been looking forward to finally "moving down to the beach". Her family was still a big part of her life even after her Earl had passed. Then, a day after the quarantine had been lifted in her city, she and her family were at the park when a group of monsters sprang out of the ground and started tearing things ups. She saw her "babies" in danger and something in her raised its head. At least that was how she described it later. She said it was like the hot flashes she had been suffering the last decade took on a mind of their own and recognized a purpose to their being. Everywhere she looked these little troll things were messing things up and threatening people and it just got her "plum miffed!" She would look at one of the monsters and the heat inside her would come alive, leap out of her and settle onto what she was mad at. In an instant the little trolls would start batting at themselves like they were tring to pat out flames on their bodies. If she focused longer than a few seconds on a particular Hooligun smoke could been seen to begin rising from the target, more than a minute or two and actual flames would erupt from the target engulfing them. She became the 1st member and Mother/Grandmother to the team.
  21. Kthanid Trevor Templin was a marine biologist studying deep sea cephalopods. He heard a story about a specimen found in Antarctic waters larger than the Great Pacific Octopus. He got some funding and mounted and expedition. During the second dive there was an underwater earthquake that caused a number of catastrophic events. A huge chunk of the ice sheet broke off, causing a giant tsunami (which ended up inundating most of Tierra del Fuego), which capsized and sank the ship Trevor's team were using. All hands were reported lost at sea. Under the frigid waves the sheared away ice sheet reveiled a hidden cave complex and in that was a sunken city. Through a confluences of currents and circumstances Trevor's unconscious body was sweep into the mysterious unsea city. When he awoke his mind nearly melted from what he saw and experienced and without the benevolent intercession of Kthanid he would have joined the rest to the crew in the great beyond. Instead Great Kthanid, brother to the Great Old One Cthulhu the Dreamer, lent a tiny portion of his vast power to Trevor to help stabilize his mind and lend strength to his fragile human body. He told Trevor of the ancient wars and struggles between his "family" and the other ancient races and beings of the primordial Universe. Now Trevor had grown up in a modern world of Supers, Aliens, and Other-Dimensional-Beings and he has spent most of his adult life studying the vast and bizarre array of deep sea organisms so once he got over the initial shock he was quickly able to come to terms with his current situation. He requested that Kthanid continue to loan him the small fraction of it great power and in exchange Trevor swore allegiance to the Great Old One. He did this because during Kthanid's explanation of the current situation Trevor came to understand that Kthanid was very un-like his brother in that he was a benevolent being and held concern about the well being and continued existence of humankind. Kthanid felt that Humans were in the early stages of a metamorphosis into another of the great space faring, dimensional hopping races like he and his kin. It hoped that with its guidance Humans would evolve into being more like himself and less like the rest of his family. Kthanid agreed to Trevor's requested and transported him back to the surface. Trevor now houses a tiny fraction of the Great Old Ones immense powers over space, time, and the mind. He uses these to help mold the Human race into kinder, gentler, more forgiving beings so that when we do achieve the next level of evolution our baser instincts of greed, envy, hatred and most of all fear, will no longer hold sway over our rational, compassionate souls. Since Antarctica is an international community he has chosen to stay there and thereby spread his influence to multiple countries simultaneously.
  22. Absolute 0 The Universe will end in either Fire or Ice it has been said. For Absolute 0 it needs to be ice. He is attuned in one way or another to every atom and every molecule, everyone of them, everywhere. It can feel when a sun goes nova, when one mortal does harm to another, when a planet is poisoned and corrupted. It knows when the fabric of time or space are torn asunder by powerful interdimensional beings. It can not escape this pain, these feelings. The only thing it wants peace and quiet, an end to all the endless noise that is existence. The only way to do that is the way it did it in the last Universe it was in : stop all the motion in all the atoms so that everything dies, everything becomes silent, all the buzzing and humming and thrumming finally stops and it can once again know peace until the next Universe starts.
  23. Ring Master Directing the Fun House Gang, if anyone was able to do that, would be the Ring Master. To say his is the most sane of the group is not really saying much. He does develop intricate and detailed plays for all kinds of whimsy but just how releasing all the dogs in the pound and teaching them to dance will benefit him is anyone's guess. Or the time he needed 50 gallons for blood from blue eyed people so he could "paint the town red". Like many others that have taken the name or title of Ring Master, he also has the ability to control the minds of his victims. In fact he will rarely if ever be the one to enact his plans although he will always be there at the end to claim credit for his great plan.
  24. The Fun House Gang is a group of six maniacs the like has not been seen since, well since ever. Their motivations vary from one to another and if anyone ever tells you they can discern a pattern to the chaos and mayhem this group perpetrates they are flat out lying to you. If there were an overarching theme to the madness it might be their personal enjoyment, which again is not the same for each one.
  25. Hern the Hunter Hern is a large imposing figure. 7+' tall with the head and antlers of stag he is most often seen bare-chested wearing only buckskin breeches and leather boots. He uses both a bow and spear when in combat and has shown considerable speed and strength. Over the centuries he has targeted nobility that have been used slash and burn tactics for war and agriculture, mortals that hunt for sport instead of necessity, polluters, and those that attack the servants of the Goddess directly. It is said that once his quarry has been marked he can track them anywhere on Earth or Fairy and never quits the hunt until he has slain his prey.
