  1. Re: Need help with character - Uriel

    Double post buddy :D

By the way welcome to the boards :)

Franky for a Justice League campaign I'd go 450+ because most likely you're going to go up against earth shattering villians (and villian teams).

As for ideas I would look at variations on power builds with both USPD (Until SuperPowers Database) and USPD2. USPD2 has some ideas on light powers you may want to take a look at. Also, you may want to get a hold of the Ultimate Mystic for ideas on mystical characters.

I think though, that +1/2 idea you have IS abusive.

I'll have to think about this for a while.

  2. Re: THRILLING PLACES -- What Do *You* Want To See?

Another vote for a deck plans on a steamship or better yet an ocean liner (i.e. Queen Mary). X-Files did a episode with Mulder trapped on an ocean liner that was reported missing back in the 30's in the Bermuda Triangle (hmm, now that sounds like a thrilling place in itself... :D )

  3. Re: THE ULTIMATE SPEEDSTER -- What Do *You* Want To See?

I agree with KA on a more workable Time Stop type power. We had a big discussion on this in another thread and we couldn't come up with a solution. It's easy to build it for an NPC (just say "plot device" which in my opinion is a big cop-out :( ) but for an PC how can he build something like this. Maybe a little more detail on a Time Stop dimension, what you can and can't do there, how to counteract it, etc...

Another vote for what happens if you go past Speed 12.

Oh yea, maybe some minor power tricks (1-10 point powers) a speedster my have.

  4. Re: THRILLING PLACES -- What Do *You* Want To See?

Yengtao Temple please and all the juicy secrets to go with it. :)

Second on the Nazi Base but not just inside a mountain. How about a flying fortress for the would-be-conqueror.

A long deserted spaceship that crashed eons ago and is covered in snow or jungle foilage. It may hold several nasty weapons and hidden dangers inside.

  5. Re: F.E.A.R. Operative (Spoilers)

I think that the operative should have also missle deflection (sort of a super dodge) or desolidification w/ a dex roll to reflect that he can slow down time a watch the bullets go flying buy around him and avoid these attacks for the short period of time (based upon his injections).

The game looks awesome but sad to say I don't have the graphics to play it on my own computer.

    Bummer! :(

  6. Re: H.G. Wells and Pulp Superpowers

The Wild Wild West television show had an episode like this (The Night of the Burning Diamond) . A scientist liquified diamonds and drank the drops from the residue. He moved incredibly fast (and invisble to boot) but died when James West threw alcohol on him and the scientist burned up due to this molecular structure moving at an accelerated rate.

    Excellent episode

  7. Re: CU - Wold Newton

I'd like to add two things.

You may want to check out The New Frontier vol 1 & 2 by Darwyn Cooke. It shows the DC Heroes from the 40s to the 60s. It gives a retro feel to the characters and the atmosphere is excellent.

Are you going to be adding a future timeline as well? There are alot futuristic characters that could fit in your universe.

    Nice job!

  8. Re: Teleport catcher

I seem to remember the old D&D cartoon where the villian caught a unicorn in mid-teleport (with one hand no less) and I wondered how if he did catch him in mid-teleport or did he redirect the teleport?

Maybe like I said before; ((Clairsentience (w/ a transdimensional advantage) and/or Danger Sense + Entangle + (Teleportation (w/ a UAA advantage)), all linked with a limitation, only to determine where the teleporter is going and redirect him to your entangle spot.

    Hope that helps. :)

  9. Re: CU - Wold Newton

I don't want to speak for OddHat, but I think this isn't so much a revision of the CU timeline, as it is OddHat's desired superhero universe.

Personally, I think it is a lot of fun. I know if I ever reboot my universe, I will deeply consider incorporating some of his ideas and events.

I think so too, and I didn't meant to start a flame-war. I like most of his timeline and will probably use one or two ideas for a time travel campaign I'm working on (minus the sitcoms :D ) but I was curious why he did choose Wold Newton as is inspiration.

I didn't mean to insult anybody but I was just expressing my viewpoint.

    Sorry

  10. Re: Teleport catcher

Aren't we getting off the beaten path here :)

I think the question was how do you catch a T-Port character in mid teleport?

I think Clairsentience and/or Danger Sense is a starter followed by some sort of entangle, Drain, Transform or Surpress (w/ a transdimensional advantage) with lots of mods! I'm not sure how and when it's acceptable to launch the power. I mean, Teleportation is instantaneous so when would it be acceptable to launch this counter-power to catch the T-Porter in Mid-Teleport?

  11. Re: CU - Wold Newton

    Excellent work...

but I think I'll stick with my own homebrew world thank you. :)

I'm not a big fan of the Wold Newton universe (and Farmer) because he streches credibility to the point of being silly. I think the Cthulhu mythos is ridiculous (I think it's become almost canon in sci-fi mythos). At one point Nemo=Moriarty (according to Farmer) and Holmes son is Nero Wolfe!!!!!!!????? I doubt if Holmes and Adler would have an affair. I think he was a man who admired intelligence and that's why he came to respect her. I doubt if he ever had romantic inclinations. :idjit:

If all these characters existed (in one universe) they would have been stepping on each other agendas to the point of redundancy not to mention monotny. Besides I think historical real-life characters are a hell of a lot more interesting that the fictional ones are. (Dr. Joseph Bell anyone?!). A small handful yea but not all the eggs in one basket :ugly:

I'm surprised Space 1999, Red Dwarf, The Champions (BBC Production), Jimmy Neutron, MacGuyver, etc... weren't included in the Newton timeline.

Didn't mean to rant or insult your work but I just thought I get my $.02 in.

  12. Re: Freezing the Time

EDM for stopping time implies you have gone to another dimension. If you never plan on coming back here, fine, but time didn't stop here, so anything you did in your freeze time didn't happen here either, unless it JUST effected you.

I disagree. The EDM is merely a game mechanic. By your statement, an Energy Blast implies you're blasting energy; however, you can fire off physical objects as well. Stopping time is part of the genre and if a respectable player comes up with a decent idea, it shouldn't be shot down simply out of impatience for understanding.

I'm not trying to shoot it down. I'm just trying to stop it from becoming abusive to the point of absurdity. There are a handful of players out there who would gladly try bend the rules (to the point of fracturing them in one or two places) if they can play a gamestopper PC at both the expense of the other players and the DM.

What I am looking for however is a way to put up a defense to this power without it getting out of hand. We could ban it, but that would probably hurt the game itself and cut down on the fun. Or we could try to find a way to prevent from getting out of hand.

In other words, if a villian had the time-stop power, the PC's could come up with a way to counteract it. I suppose Surpress might work, or Transform, or maybe EDM where the PC will go to the same dimension and fight the villian on equal terms.

I noticed here there trying to work on a teleport catcher (or try to anticipate where the PC will go and try to catch him halfway) and I think this alludes to what I've been trying do. Build an opposite and equal defense for the offense. :)

  13. Re: Freezing the Time

This power makes you uber-guy to the nth level. You're right about how easy it is to hit him. A PC may have high enough defenses to prevent a major attack but a normal is at the mercy of the fiend.

Is there a defense for this monster of a power from getting out of a hand?

Hmm. I hope the The Ultimate Skill book will clairify how to use skills effectively instead of just jumping to powers so easily.

  15. Re: Freezing the Time

Yea I know (good suggestions by the way) but I wanted to see other ways Chris would handle it since he said the power isn't that abusive.

Come to think of it, what ways are there to overcome a Time Stop power (especially if you use the extra dimensional travel power) or any other time stop like method.

  16. Re: Freezing the Time

Steve Long has (at least) semi-seriously (and, given that it's Steve, at least semi-officially, or as official as anything he writes is) suggested using EDM for a wish: "EDM to the dimension where what I wished for is true."

    How is that much different?

    and

How is the suggested build (EDM to dimension of stopped time) abusive? What exactly can it break? It's not the "I win the game!" power.

Either you don't allow this power in your games or

You have a way of preventing this power from coming too abusive

I'd wish you'd clairify why it wouln't be abusive. Consider my example earlier where a villian could come next to the PC, "gut him like a fish", and leave without any chance of him from fighting back or put up a proper defense. I'd consider that pretty abusive right there. So unless you know of a way to overcome this power, I'd appreciate you giving us your expertise on this :)

  17. Re: Freezing the Time

First of all, welcome to the boards. :)

Second, I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you asking if his PC can stop time. Move to someone and gut him like a fish (that would be horribly abusive) or does he just want to move around and take away a villians item or pick up stuff in and around the area.

If it's the second, you might try Extra-Dimensional Movement where you move to a dimension where everything his frozen buy you can't automatically take away item's in his hand but you could pick up stuff around the area.

You could also do an Entangle (Area Effect) representing time stop area where no one can move.

You may want to check out the USPD and USPD2 (when it comes out) because they have a section on time powers.

    Just my $.02
